"Stalin vouches for renewable energy."

A headline.

Is he the new energy czar?

Automatic_Wing म्हणाले...

Yes...fantastic idea for a country with a per capita income of $1,000 per year to throw money at enviro feel-good projects like windmills and solar panels. Heckuva job, Stalin.

But I'm sure The Zero and Van Jones and Anita Dunn are ecstatic.

Uncle Joe knew how to handle the proles.

What a farce. I like the Stalin tie-in, but the article just makes me sad for India. Any serious "new" or "sustainable" energy policy that doesn't focus on nuclear is a waste of time, resources and accumulated knowledge. Here's hoping that there are enough intelligent, pragmatic people in India that they won't follow the corpse-strewn path of "subsidized clean energy".

Trotsky was unavailable for comment, as he had been killed by an ice pick.

Given the context may I suggest...
"Trotsky was unavailable for comment having been buried under an advancing glacier."

I like the name Stalin. It lets you know immediately that his parents were jerks and that he is continuing the family tradition.

That really is the problem, that renewable/green, etc. is a luxury that the Indians cannot yet afford. But soon, and then they too can obsess about global warming (though even if there were AGW, most of India wouldn't see it all that much, since it is already hot).

Could we commission Chip Ahoy to put a windmill on his head?

Link bait..

There ought to be a name for a link that entices you by making you think its something and its something else... maybe there is and I just don't know it.

Althouse loves doing this too.

I dunno, if you kill all the kulaks and burn their bodies, you don't generate any new kulaks.

And why do Indians so often go by their initials? Are their names that unpronounceable?

Richard Dolan म्हणाले...

"And why do Indians so often go by their initials?"

I'd blame it on the Brits.

Ankur म्हणाले...

Maguro, you do realize that one of the biggest manufacturers of Wind Turbines is an Indian company called Suzlon? And that a lot of the wind turbines in West Texas and California are made in India? I think it used to be the biggest company until Vestas and GE overtook it, but it still has higher market cap than either of those two.

That particular bit of enviro-feel-goodness has worked out very well for the Indian economy, thankyouverymuch.

Toad Trend म्हणाले...

That's a bit frightening.

I like 'Fillerup-Standing'.

Automatic_Wing म्हणाले...

@Ankur - Certainly subsidies for wind projects will work out well for Suzlon...they'll get free money from the Indian taxpayer. Whether it'll work our well for India is another question. The Indian state has a pretty poor track record of picking economic winners and losers over the years.
