Merry Christmas Eve, everyone.

All of our beloveds live here or close to us, so home is where the home is.

Christmas Eve *is* Christmas to Lithuanians.

We've just finished the traditional Lithuanian Christmas Eve meal: Herring prepared one way, herring prepared with slippery, marinated mushrooms as a second way, and herring in oily tomato sauce as a third way. It's all served with cold salads chock full of beets, navy beans, and *hard-boiled eggs*!!

This year, we skipped the cooked compote of reconstituted, dried fruit.

Vodka and a litte Courvoisier make it all taste nice.

Tomorrow, we'll work on the Christmas cards.

Just for tonight, I'll be Lithuanian "old", Irene.

Thank you for sharing the spirit of Christmas...and your meat.

Not so sure about that, rh?

Of course, I am unaccustomed to the ways of "patioism".

Perhaps if you lit that torch?

To the Professor and Meade and all of Althousia --

May the joy of this season that marks the incarnation of salvation, hope and peace for those who are called Christians be shared in all your homes and families.

May you have health and be blessed in 2011.

The kids are now in bed, and we are waiting for them to fall asleep. Cookies are out for Santa, even though they are both too old now to believe.

We went to a very nice Christmas Eve service, where my oldest had a solo in the childrens' choir.

Happy Christmas to All!

Unknown म्हणाले...

Merry Christmas to all the Althousians, especially the Meadhousians.

Also, I want to thank everyone who inquired after The Blonde's health during the year (10 months of which were pretty Hellacious). (We still have no definitive word on those "suspicious" cells)

From me and The Blonde to you:

Thanks.

It meant more than you know.

Thank you, Madame. The Blonde is off to work and it's me and the pups till Santa Dog shows up.

Don't worry. They'll remember it with a catch in the throat one day and wish they could go back to Mr & Mrs Irene's again.

Merry Christmas to all!

enjoyed your posts, Irene. Thanks.

On the way to Christmas Eve Midnight Mass. I have SH duty tonight, but I'm thinking we'll have a low turnout, been heavy rain most of the evening. There are worse things to be doing that's for sure.

God bless us, every one.

Irene म्हणाले...

Thanks, sunsong.

edutcher, best, as always, to you, the Blonde, and the Yorkies.

(P.S. The instruction about how to handle whining children applies well also to non-native in-laws and guests: no meat on Christmas Eve. No duck, no turkey, no pheasant, no roast. Just herring.)

Clyde म्हणाले...

Merry Christmas to all of the fine folks who comment here, and of course to Ann and Meade themselves. May you get only good things in your stockings and no sticks and switches and lumps of coal.

Chase म्हणाले...

The picture reminds of the new "True Grit" the wife and I saw last night. Incredible film. Really didn't expect to like it.

Best movie of the last 3 years. Every actor is award worthy. Seriously. The score alone is worth the price of admission.

We didn't make it to the old homestead because the kids started throwing up on Monday. But even though all our presents are 700 miles away, we trimmed a tree that stayed up, and ate a pot of homemade chicken soup that stayed down. I made some cookies when I started to feel better. So there's hope for tomorrow.

Merry Christmas everyone.

BJM म्हणाले...

We're home too...just us this year...kind of nice for a change.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

Glad to hear it, Chase! I'm planning to go see it on Christmas. :)

Dear Santa Claus,

Once again I awake on Christmas morning, rush downstairs to check under the tree, and there's no Christie Brinkley. What up with that? Did you lose my address?

AllenS

ps I'm starting to have my doubts.

Seriously, Merry Christmas to everyone. Thank you Professor for keeping the cafè open.

I did...thank goodness. I almost got stuck in Copenhagen for the holidays.

Unfortunately, my luggage did get stuck in Copenhagen.

Meade म्हणाले...

Yes, yes I did. Merry Christmas, everyone.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Chase, I loved the movie too. Would see it again!

Chase,

"True Grit" is on my to-do list.

Merry Christmas, everyone - but especially to Ann and Meade:

Rough year!

Now put me back on your blogroll!

I gave my mother a kit for learning to draw comics. She was a big fan of the original Spiderman. I think she is going to write a comic about her dog.

Great to read that True Grit is so good. Also supposed to see that this week.

Merry Christmas to all! And thanks for another year of wit and insight in the comments section.

The Musket म्हणाले...

Ahh - at home in my woods, with my hubby and kids. Christmas Eve was wonderful, celebrated with friends that are family, lots of music and candlelight. Today, snow in Dixie, a fire in the fireplace and gorging on cookies.

Merry Christmas to all y'all!!!

arkie म्हणाले...

The Ozarks is my home, and it is here I stayed for Christmas, to eat ham and quail with beloved family members. Although I have only posted once, I am very grateful for the blog, and for everyone who contributes to it.
Merry Christmas to you all!!

The Crack Emcee म्हणाले...

I had dinner with the moderate and the progressive and me and the progressive didn't so much as growl at each other.

All in all, a good night.

Merry Christmas one more time before it's over.
