"[T]here was some confusion as to what book young Obama was writing."

"His publisher thought he was writing about race relations. His employer thought he was writing about voting rights law. But Obama seems to have never seriously considered either subject. Instead, he decided that his subject would be himself. The 32-year-old was writing a memoir."

Jonathan V. Last writes in  The Weekly Standard:
Obama came clean to the university first. He waited until his fellowship was halfway over—perhaps he was concerned that his employers might not like the bait-and-switch. He needn’t have worried. [Douglas Baird, the head of Chicago’s appointments committee] still hoped that Obama would eventually join the university’s faculty...

And it all worked out in the end. The book Obama eventually finished was Dreams from My Father. It didn’t do well initially, but nine years later, after his speech at the 2004 Democratic convention made him a star, it sold like gangbusters. Obama got rich. And famous. The book became the springboard for his career in national politics.

Only it didn’t quite work out for everybody. Obama left the University of Chicago... Simon & Schuster, which had taken a chance on an unproven young writer, got burned for a few thousand bucks. And Jane Dystel, who’d plucked him out of the pages of the New York Times and got him the deal to write the book that sped his political rise? As soon as Obama was ready to negotiate the contract for his second book—the big-money payday—he dumped her and replaced her with super-agent Robert Barnett.

It seems the content of his character has been open to question for a long time. He tried that bait and switch on the American electorate and now his chickens are coming home to roost.

The old race bait and switch.

None of this would have surprised you if you head read Steve Sailer's very insightful pre-election coverage of Obama, largely based on a close reading of his autobiography.

Why were you AWOL?

अनामित म्हणाले...

Perhaps, Ann, you should start reading Sailer:

www.isteve.blogspot.com

He was all over the Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright thing before the election, too.

And, before your other readers tell you, Sailer is officially (according to the SCLC) a racist.

He believes that IQ differences exist among races and nationalities.

In 2008, one of his Harvard Law classmates, the entertainment lawyer Jackie Fuchs, explained what Obama was like during his school days: “One of our classmates once famously noted that you could judge just how pretentious someone’s remarks in class were by how high they ranked on the ‘Obamanometer,’ a term that lasted far longer than our time at law school. Obama didn’t just share in class—he pontificated. He knew better than everyone else in the room, including the teachers.

Heh.

Newsflash - it's not much of an autobiography when large portions are fictionalized. Throughout the book, the young author created composite characters to stand in for people he didn't want to name outright. Of course he didn't want to name all of these people who influenced him because their names would lead back to his philosophical origins. We couldn't have transparency like that now could we?

ricpic म्हणाले...

Whatever the ostensible subject of his book the underlying theme is race and only race. In fact the entire Obama administration has been about punishing whitey by way of "social justice." The Obama administration is an obscenity but nice whites dasn't say so, heck, they dasn't even think so, so effective has been their brainwashing.

And now all of those disjointed points all seem to fit together seamlessly don't they?

I've always felt that Obama has made some pro moves in his life that his years and experience didn't have the capability to make on their own.

I feel that there is an unseen hand that has nudged him this way or that, all along the way to get him to where he is today.

Who owns that hand I wonder.

WV: carper, yup, that's what I am....

In the form of the billionaire Pitzker, Crown, and Klutznik family that dominate the U of Chicago Board of Trustees (giving Barry and Michelle their light work/high pay sinecures) and who have a say in Daley Machine patronage appointments. They picked up the Obamas as special pets to uplift back in the early 90s. Impressed with how articulate and presentable a pair of Negroes they were. Progressive Jews, since the days they created the NAACP for poor Negroes and funded it, have always felt black uplift was a special mission.

Obama also attracted the regular patronage of Uber-connected lawyer Avner Mikva and the political patronage of Jewish progressive activist and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky who backed Obama's political rise and introduced him to the lucrative Hollywood and NYC donors Jan knew that Mikva and the billionaire families had not yet given Obama entree` with.

Successful writing often comes from writing about the subject of your passion. You have to care a lot about the subject to convince your readers to keep reading.

Obama was always just effective enough to fill the role of golden boy for those in need of one, until people who didn't need one had to endure his incompetence.

President is the first job he ever had where his abilities actually mattered. He was not prepared for that. This is why Palin was actually better qualified than he was, and she wasn't even running for the job.

Idiots. Honestly. So frustrating.

Had they never been scammed before? They need to ask themselves: what made me such a mark? What flaw in myself? Because it's in them. It was not primarily Obama; it wasn't even the media. What was it in themselves that made this possible?

And they need to take care of it if it still lives within.

अनामित म्हणाले...

But Obama seems to have never seriously considered either subject.

As Elaine Benes said:

Mick म्हणाले...

"Dreams" was used during the election to cement the knowledge of Obama's Non US Citizen father w/ the public, thereby overcoming Chester Arthur's fraudulent precedent.
Arthur was the only other Usurper, but just like Obama the controversy at the time was about C. Arthur's (CA) PLACE of birth. Hiding in plain sight was the fact of his father's Non Citizenship. It was RECENTLY found that his father was not naturalized until CA was 13. It was not known to the public, and CA went to great lengths to hide that fact. He lied about his date of birth, and burned all family history before his death. Leo Donofrio recently found microfilm in that recorded CA's father's naturalization.
It is very likely that Obama has taken a page of CA's playbook. He used the Birth Certificate issue as a red herring to distract from the already apparent Constitutional violation of his father's non US Citizenship, which excludes him from being a natural born Citizen, eligible to be POTUS.

Conveniently CA also appointed Horace Gray, who muddied the Jurisdictional Phrase of the 14A (in Wong Kim Ark).

There have been many instances of congress seeking to amend A2S1. Notably Akhil Amar weighed in during the 2004 attempt. Lo and Behold, Amar's favorite student, Katyal, has succeeded Kagen as solicitor general, and is the solicitor general in Obama's eligibilty case that will be in conferrence on 11/23 (Kerschner v. Obama et al.).

The main aim of the treasonous members of congress is to use Obama as a precedent to amend A2S1, which they have been frustrated at not achieving.

We are now awake, and if Obama (if he survives in office) or Bobby Jindal seek office in 2012, we will be there to challenge their eligibilty. Unfortunately Althouse and the others who should know better will not.

Last's omniscience about Obama's book is truly amazing. He doesn't start citing sources for his assertions until the second page.

But a President with an ego? Unheard of! Of course the most egotistical person of all is the one who can discuss how his ego makes him think he's more competent than he is.
