One impression I've always had is that a lot of the people with this are some of the most self-indulgent people ever born.
My God, once you have it how many other people have to get it because you're mad at the world? To keep having sex and bring a kid into the world knowing, if you care, that kid will be saddled with it forever has to be about the most selfish thing imaginable.
Oh shit.. I had sex with the girl with the tongue pierce.
(no i didn't ;)
Looking at the girl with the tongue pierce I ask myself if I didnt know she was HIV positive would I think that she was attractive?
I cant help think that the attraction (if there is one) may be out some morbid.. please dont die.. almost like maybe I could trade places with her.. she is so young and I lived more than twice as her.
its not fair.
I know maybe I sound like Catherine Keener's character in Please Give (2010).
But, all of us, I dont care how hard we've had it, at one point must have felt something for.. empathy?
I dont know.
wv - bless (oh shit)

How does it rank next to, say, the decision to bring a child with Down's Syndrome into the world?
"How does it rank next to, say, the decision to bring a child with Down's Syndrome into the world?"
Close, but not the same thing.
The HIV couple knows they have a deadly disease that has a high potential to be passed on to their child before they get pregnant. On the other hand Down's Syndrome is diagnosed in utero and sometimes not even until after birth.
I do get your point though.
If a schoolkid has a peanut allergy, they ban all peanuts so the kid won't be injured?
If a schoolkid has HIV, they don't inform the kid for years even though he could infect his classmates? And the classmates and their parents don't know either?
Is this PC run amock or is it the right way to handle it?
wv = guesse
Rev - it is Down syndrome.
It is Down's syndrome, although Googling around a bit I see that "Down syndrome" is also accepted (probably because people have a hard time with the double "s" sound).
It was documented by a doctor named down, and like numerous other ailments carries the "X's syndome" moniker.
