I had a great Thanksgiving:

Watched the game and, when my time came for a prayer (you had to be there) I included Sarah Palin, to the chuckles of everyone in the room - all liberals, but of the negro persuasion. One guy said he was the last Obama fan.

Oddly, the biggest concern my friends seemed to have was how I felt about Tom Delay.

They seemed to think it was a pretty big deal, or acted as if I should.

Had a great Thanksgiving. Ate well, drank better, and feel stuffed. I am grateful.

Hey, Archy's back.

Trooper - Happy Thanksgiving. I'm just too bloated to click onto your site and say it.

Here in the Twin Cities, the news is highlighting that this was the coldest Thanksgiving in 25 years. It's currently 13 degrees.

Ah, yes. I remember Thanksgiving, 1985. Goat was served. My girlfriend and I almost broke up, but not over the goat.

Don't know what it is, but there's something glacial in the look of the sky in the third shot.

Today was the first day this winter that I noticed ice in the Mississippi River.

Edutcher, sounds like there's more to that story, but yeah, good friends like that are rare indeed.

Happy Thanksgiving, Ann, Chris and Meade.

Nice. Looks crisp out there, and you're getting out into the midst of things. I need to do that! It's been football, blogs, and grading --- and turkey dinner!

One of our family traditions is a crescent role called a butter horn.

It is a three stage butter process.

Melted butter in the dough.

Melted butter slathered on the rolled dough before you cut and role up the crescents.

Butter pasted on right before you put it in your mouth.

अनामित म्हणाले...

It is a high density butter delivery item.

Whew! Well that was fun, lots interesting, delicious food. A wild mushroom pasta was the best dish of the day. One of the guests brought along a stray fiddler...within minutes we had a jug band going. We had 27 two-legged and and 9 four-legged guests. Nothing like a passel of happy dogs under foot...our dog is passed out and the cats have reappeared to beg for turkey.

Most folks have departed, the kitchen cleaned and a friend is whipping up a tray of leftover tidbits as several couples will spend the night...one hubby is already snoozing due to excessive hitting on the Anchor Steam keg.

We have the Godfather trilogy queued up in the downstairs family/media room...what better way to end a family feast?!

Oh...a little giggle for fls.

Slip of the tongue or Freudian slip? Was Palin McCain's Manchurian candidate, selected for him shortly after her birth by the North Viets in league at that time with the ChiComs and Norks?

Unknown म्हणाले...

fls, it's no different than when The Zero told us he had been to 57 states, had one more to go, and they wouldn't let him go to Alaska and Hawaii.

Or when he told us his uncle in the US Army helped liberate Auschwitz.

Or when he said the Viennese speak Austrian.

Miss Sarah had a slip of the tongue, and you know it.

But The Zero?

They weren't all slips, now were they?

AllenS म्हणाले...

fls,

You're going to love
this. It is why Sarah Palin is just like way totally cool. Tell us some stories about Osama, I mean Obama.

Added:

Of course, the paragraph above is based on a series of misstatements and verbal gaffes made by Barack Obama (I didn’t have enough time to do one for Joe Biden).

No shit. It would have taken all day.

Here's why this framing:

works so effectively.

It's all about Darwin's evolutionary theory of beauty! Dennis Dutton explains:

I liked the cold a lot more when I was a kid. It isn't the fan of old bones that's for sure.

I'll just curl up today with a good book, leftovers galore, a fire in the fireplace (i'll put the DVD on an pretend).

.....the onset of cold.......

former law student म्हणाले...

You guys pooh-pooh the Palin-North Korea connection, but to me it explains a lot.

AllenS म्हणाले...

fls, click on my link, I dare ya.

btdt: BJM had invited me to go there.

Of course she had had time to figure out a "plausible deniability" strategy to cover up her ties. But do we really know where the toddler Sarah spent her time?

Malapropisms are a time-honored tradition in Chicago, btw. Who could forget the greatest mayor of the greatest city in the world saying such things as "The policeman isn't there to create disorder; the policeman is there to preserve disorder"?
