"Reasonable gun control is one thing, this another. Chicago requires 1 hour on range for handgun permit but bars ranges."

A tweet, cited in a legal brief.

And all the nerds ask, what citation form was used? Answer: www.twitter.com/ adamwinkler, Aug. 16, 2010, 3:18 p.m. (citation omitted) (last visited Sept. 26, 2010). Is that properly Bluebooked?

So the Chicago elite only want rich people to bear arms. The racists.

Richard Dolan म्हणाले...

Not all the nerds. It's all the former law review editors (Ann to mirror ....) Lawyers and judges don't have much use for Bluebooking.

Why does Althouse love guns? Is she in with the NRA?

I'm trying to figure out what the next Ritmo/AL/garage/victoria angle is gonna be on this.

The Drill SGT म्हणाले...

Althouse doesn't love guns....

But she needs so many CEU credits in law blogging a year to keep up her certification as a Law Prof Blogger

Guns are for racist Tea-baggers…they represent their bitter rage at their displacement from what was, once, their own nation…a nation of sexism, racism, homo-phobia and bigotry…that is all changing and they want to use violence to turn back the clock!

Alex म्हणाले...

Yeah I'll keep our resident trolls in mind as I head to the range this weekend to shoot my Glock 19. Huah!

I'm not a big gun proponent. However, the draconian steps taken by paternalistic pols in Chicago to deny people their constitutional right could make me a freakn' posse com, survivalist.

One solution: The UIC campus police could open their range, in the historic Maxwell Street Station, to the public:

We're in Chicago, and we go to Bristol, Wisconsin (about 50 miles away) to shoot. Someplace a little closer by would be nice, but I don't know of any.

One solution: The UIC campus police could open their range, in the historic Maxwell Street Station, to the public:
1) Liability issues;
2) Legal/budgetary issues. A police range is for POLICE training, not public training…they’d have to charge something for privilege.
3) Any that’s not the solution Chicago is looking for, the goal is to make it impossible to have a weapon in Chicago, legally.
Wonder what the ACLU or Jeremy would say if we made this substitution:
“Reasonable Time, Place and Manner restrictions are one thing, this another,” Winkler tweeted. “Chicago requires 1 hour of public speaking classes for public speech.” To Heck with banning Toastmasters!

When I was a teenager growing up in northern Alabama, I saw how the right dragged their feet on implementing the clear intent of the SOTUS on desegregation and school prayer.

I saw how people who conidered themselves patriots could just ignore the law when it got in their way, and I despised them for it.

Now, it's the left, who after 50 years of using Supreme Court rulings to bludgeon the bitter clingers refuses to honor the clear intent of the Court on guns.

I despise them even more.

Under Rule 18.2.2 of the 19th edition of the Bluebook, I think the cite is incorrect. It should be:

Adam Winkler, Twitter (Aug. 16, 2010, 3:18 PM), www.twitter.com/adamwinkler.

I don't think you need the last visited information - look at Rule 18.2.2(c).

GAT Guns is a indoor range in East Dundee. Take 90 out to 25 and go north 1.5 miles.

If you're looking for a outdoor range - Buffalo Range on I-80 is the only public one I'm aware of.

Dictators are always against people with firearms.

OTOH, requiring time on the range but allowing no ranges is why Corruption That Works doesn't.

Yeah, that's pretty much where I am on it. Haven't been shooting for a decade at least. My "dog in the fight" is the principle of the thing.

Synova म्हणाले...

Opening the police ranges is not a bad idea at all, liability or not, because it puts the gun owners in contact with the police, and vice versa, in a relatively cooperative and relaxed setting.

ndspinell: (tongue in cheek follows)--I am a BIG gun proponent; preferable in excess of .50 caliber (12.7 for you metric freaks)--lots more stopping power. Barring that the old m1911 a1 ACP will do in a pinch. Its just you cant hit anything with it.

Michigan has many indoor and outdoor ranges, the fishing is good, the leaves are pretty and liquor prices are reasonable.

Just a short hop from Chicago.

Jakester म्हणाले...

I never knew that citizens of Chicago aren't allowed to leave the city limits. The City is evil cause they banned deer hunting too.

Sigivald म्हणाले...

Jakester: Making it "very hard" rather than "impossible" is still an infringement on the right.

Chicagoans without a car will find it hard and expensive enough that it might as well be impossible.

Do people without their own automobiles get to lose rights to make the City of Chicago happy?

(Deer hunting, you see, is not a Constitutionally enumerated right. Keeping and bearing arms is.

Pretending they're the same - or even particularly related - is disingenuous. But I assume you know that.

Especially because one can only hunt deer where there are deer, but one is capable of keeping and bearing arms wherever one is.)
