Fall color...

... reflected in the devil's lake.

(Enlarge for better color.)

Talk about whatever you wan in the comments.

UPDATE: Woke up Saturday morning and saw the typo. Was going to correct it but it seems like a pun in a post about color.

The ad running for Scott Walker now that features his running mate -- can't recall her name, but she's somewhat more conservative than he -- is not a good ad.

There is no color in her face. (No Fall Color). And then the way Walker comes up at the end and stands next to her (What's his hand doing?). It's just odd odd odd.

I think there are too many ads anyway. I wonder when the law of diminishing returns starts to effect political ads. If they are on constantly -- and they are -- does any message come across other than one of total annoyance?

And another thing -- All I see for the US House are Kind/Kapanke ads. And I don't live in their district! No ads for Ryan or Baldwin or whoever is running against the two of them. Did Kapanke really take $36000 from lobbyists to pay off some personal debts? This is the best candidate Republicans could find?

I was there several years ago...weather like we've had; and I drove east from the park as a full fall moon rose is the east. Amazing!

Is it really called "devil's lake"? It's so beautiful. In Texas we have the "Devil's River" but it traverses a sun-scorched part of the state where men where known to die from the elements if they weren't killed by Comanches first. There must be a story behind "devil's lake."

Gorgeous picture. Did you ever mention what camera you use?

As long as it's an open thread, I'll say this: I was too timid to buy a "DiGiorno for One" at the store because I didn't want the cashier to think I was a dork so I bought full sized one and now I'm stuffing my face.

Mrs Trollope and Mrs Bennett when they visited the United States in the early and mid nineteenth century were quite taken aback by the American habit of chewing tobacco. It seems that the Americans were not so accurate in their aim when expectorating. There was as much sputum on the floors as in the spitoon. This was a particular problem for the ladies as the style then was for floor length dresses, and nobody likes sputum in their hem lines....I sympathize with the ladies, but this thought occurs to me: why didn't the ladies switch to mid calf dresses. I recognize that a well turned ankle had at that time the erotic impact of cleavage for us, but even so I should think a racy costume would be prefereable to a spit hemmed outfit.....Women are forever telling men to man up, but there should be an equivalent expression where men can tell women to girly down, i.e. stop being so frilly and proper.

I'm lying in a hammock in Palm Springs drinking old fashioneds. It's 11:30 pm and 80ish degrees F. Life is good.

Would it not be hilarious to Spoonerize politics? The process is to swap the initial sounds from two words (generally first and last names or part of a phrase)- done unintentionally as was the case with Rev. Spooner some years ago but we've all done it from time to time. So here goes.

Dim Joyle.
Jon Rhonson. (OK, some not so odd, but...)
Fuss Reingold.
Boe Jiden.
Orack Babama.
And my personal fave, Heaker of the Spouse, Pancy Nelosi.

Carry on.

Every Fall, The Blonde takes her 'leaf ride' to see something like that. Not as spectacular here in OH this year.

Nicely done, Madame.

Aim got better. At the battle of Beecher's Island, a scout spit a wad in the eye of a rattler about to give his position away to the Indians.

That info is sometimes posted on her Flickr site.

PS Nice meeting you, too, Mr Irene :)

Hopefully you stopped @ the Ski-Hi Orchard and got some apples, pie, or warm turnovers.

Being a lover of history, you probably know the Armstrong Brothers[Sterling Hall bombers] planned to bomb the nearby Badger Ammunition Plant. There is an incongruity, leaving the beauty of Devil's Lake, and driving down Hwy 12 seeing the vast, abandoned ammunition plant appear as you descend the Baraboo bluff. It was needed to win WW2, so it's an eyesore I can abide.

Helping a neighbor move out this morning as the poor woman (2 kids and no husband)fighting a foreclosure action on a house with a different but similar address. She has to be out in 48 hours and it is the weekend and no courts available. the notice clearly is for a house in a town nearby - not hers - but the sheriff said to her that if her stuff wasn't out by 7am monday they would load it in the street.

.....the mortgage issue explained....

The president and vice president presented a unified front for the audience in Biden's hometown of Wilmington and made the case that Coons's election is crucial to keeping their agenda moving forward.

"This guy has a backbone like a ramrod," Biden said while introducing Obama, adding that he has "a brain bigger than his skull and a heart to match both."

Obama took the stage to a hardy ovation from the crowd and said, "I've had to make a lot of decisions over the last 24 months ...The single best decision I have made was selecting Joe Biden as my running mate."

Biden sure has a way with words.

On the evening news last night, Katie Couric stated that Social Security recipients got a 5.8% COLA last year.

If CBS News can put a statement like this on her teleprompter about such a current incendiary issue, what can we trust them to fact-check before they put it on the air?

Congress, dominated by the A party, passes "LawX", opposed by the B party.

Later, when a President from the B party is in office, one District Court Judge rules that LawX is unconstitutional.

What would we want the administration to do: 1) let the ruling stand, since you don't like LawX; or 2) have the Department of Justice litigate a good faith appeal of LawX, and let the appellate process run its course?

(Note that there is no T party in this question.)

MadisonMan, in regards to your "did he..." asking of a question, a two second Google search revealed this, which states he did not.

It's getting close to an election. Question EVERY allegation you hear made- especially ones from the side of the aisle on which one resides. That's how we'll rid ourselves of the lying- by making it counterproductive.

Ann, I've been trying to contact you via e-mail about using one of your photos as the cover of a poetry chapbook I'm publishing... I thought maybe your spam filter might be eating my e-mails (because I can take a "no" but not a mysterious non-response). Please contact me! (ron dot mohring at gmail dot com)
