"Any father who would take his children to such things is not really thinking of the fatherly perspective and is more interested in politics."

Said Paladino about Cuomo. Cuomo found that "reckless" and "divisive.”

I think it's pretty true.
I also think the gay pride parades are counter productive, especially for the cause of gay marriage.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

Can I just say that the NY Goobernatorial election is a gas to watch from a distance? Could two candidates be any more unlikeable?

Isn't Palladino the guy who fathered a child with someone who is not his wife? And he's giving parenting advice? Seriously?

Unknown म्हणाले...

I see his point, but, in a state that includes Gotham, not a very politic thing to say. It will play well upstate (I'm assuming he really feels this way), but it won't fly downstate.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

My apologies for spelling his name incorrectly.

Capt. Schmoe म्हणाले...

Cuomo found an opponent who clearly states his opinion. How reckless and divisive.

Scott M म्हणाले...

Nothing is more divisive than the constant Democratic/sycophantic focus on identity politics. That shouldn't surprise anyone, though, as they're the geniuses that claim to be all for free speech, but saddled our civilization with political correctness.

I, personally, wouldn't take my young kids to a gay pride parade. Much in the same way I wouldn't take my young kids to a hetero pride parade. I'm attempting, however Sisyphean the task, to keep them from being sexualized as long as possible while still being mindful that it happens organically.

Teen-agers, on the other hand...sure, why not? With my older kids, something like that starts lively conversation, the likes of which I've encouraged since they were old enough to argue.

Pastafarian म्हणाले...

Well, I just read how he never said or wrote that "dysfunctional homosexual" line, so now I have to wonder whether he actually said this.

Although it is, you know, true. I wouldn't take children to a parade where men walk around with their genitals hanging out and painted day-glo orange, carrying signs about how much they enjoy oral and anal sodomy. But that's me.

"What's a rusty trombone, Dad?"

"Later, little Pasty Jr. Go ask your mother."

"Why is that man dressed like a lady, Dad?"

Scott M म्हणाले...

This whole thing is moot. The New York electoral apparatus has completely failed our service men and women. They failed to send out their absentee ballots EVEN AFTER BEING GIVEN AN EXTENSION. The tinfoil hat on my head says there is a helluva lot more here than some maid or secretary putting them in the garbage by accident. The military tends to vote GOP (telling, that...) and there are more than 50k of them registered in the greater NY area alone.

I notice it's not getting a whole lot of MSM exposure.

The left trying desperately to take away the freedom that we have in this country to just not like something. The epitome of P.C.

Paladino has handed the media and Status-Quomo the weapon to bludgeon him with but privately I'll bet that most people would agree with him on this.

KCFleming म्हणाले...

In The Disappearance
of Childhood
, Neil Postman wrote "Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see."

Keeping children from overt sexual content has been our tradition, but one that is rapidly on the wane. In this way we revert to the Middle Ages, though some think this an advancement.

If it's okay for a child to attend a sexual parade, why can't they themselves be sexual in a parade?

The line is fading.

Another common sense statement from Paladino, which, of course, puts him beyond the pale.

I don't believe that! After the 2000 Florida election fiasco, our trusty pols promised they would fix all election problems! It's now ten years later and I am sure they kept their word to us so you must be making this story up! Heh.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

Status-Cuomo. I like that.

Here's the thing that's jarring to me in all of this. Why should the government -- and by extension, a Governor -- care about how a particular child is being raised as long as the kid is healthy, happy, and on the road to functioning adult status? Why is Paladino, a Republican who presumably agitates for small government, even offering an opinion on something that is fundamentally not the Government's business at all?

I know Politicians have elevated opinions of themselves and perhaps think of their pronouncements as profound, but there are times when you shouldn't talk. This was one of them.

DADvocate म्हणाले...

Paladino's statement is accurate. Liberals have been sacrificing children to the political gods for decades, from abortion to busing to stuff like this.

What's the deal with Paladino and the horse emails? Was there any truth in that?

Scott M म्हणाले...

@Alex

I don't live there, so apparently DTL would say it's not my fight and I should shut up. Feh...

Disenfranchising a wide random swath of people due to the ineffectiveness of their poking abilities is one thing. Specifically targeting the absentee ballots for military voters, knowing full well how they tend to vote, borders on a clear and present threat.

I immediately think of those childhood beauty pageants where parents dress their little girls up to look like drag queens in places like Texas.

Jonah Goldberg said it pretty well last night. I paraphrase, "when you're pandering to a small group, on the way into the room you say, no cameras."

Paladino is right.

A.W. म्हणाले...

cuomo would be an idiot to make too big a thing out of that comment.

gay pride parades are too often R-rate, or X-rated affairs. it doesn't bother me, except to think of how parents have to deal with that, which is the problem.

when cuomo disputes that, it invites everyone to show what goes on at those things.

A.W. म्हणाले...

except for the "in places like Texas." part i agree. those things are uber creepy. anyone volunteering for judging that thing should be placed on a jessica's law list automatically.

But its not just places like texas.

chuck b. म्हणाले...

"But its not just places like texas."

Are you over-interpreting me? There are two kinds of places in the world. Places like Texas, and places that are not like Texas. Binary distinctions are normal here.

chuck b. म्हणाले...

Anyway, I will need to see evidence that those things happen in non-Texas-like places if I am to change my mind.

So is Tourettes, but you wouldn't want to take your kids to a Tourettes Pride parade, would you?

I would pay good money to see a Tourettes Pride parade.

New Yorkers would rather have gay pride parades then families.

I agree with MadMan that Paladino is an exceptional father, having fathered a child with his mistress. Infidelity is thought to be a character flaw for Democrats, but is not worth mentioning when a Republican does it.

Scott M म्हणाले...

FLS, the extension of your argument is that an illegitimate child born to a mistress doesn't require paternal parenting.

The are ample examples on both sides of infidelity. Which is worse, though? Taking the responsibility for one's actions and being a parent, or going the John Edwards route?

I don't carry water for either candidate in that race, but I do care as a father.

Alex म्हणाले...

I fail to see how having a mistress is equal to gay pride parades. One happens behind closed doors and the other is THRUST into people's faces. I'd say ban these abominations. Bring back my 1950s America, the way I used to remember it! God, Country, Apple Pie and Marilyn Monroe!

BTW, I'm 34.

Michael म्हणाले...

FLS: Fathering a child and then being a father to a child are very much Republican virtues. Fathering a child and cutting out appears to be the Democratic method, taking into account that the opportunity to abort the child was apparently overlooked.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

My beef would be more towards the example he's setting for his legitimate kids. Yes, I've had this affair, and it produced a kid. You know this now. Don't tell your Mother, and I won't either.

It is a dreadful thing -- and there is no Yes, but that can be tacked on to this statement -- to give your child a bombshell secret about you and your wife, and then tell them not to tell your wife.

If that's what he did (I honestly don't know and haven't been keeping up with NY politics because dtl told me not to), then it would certainly be reprehensible. As a father, one of, if not THE, greatest fear I have is disappointing my children in any way. Disappointment when they find out about an affair and other kids plus the added disappointment of begging to join the father in dishonesty? It would be bridge-diving time.

Believe it or not I haven't even been to a Gay Pride Event-just not into them. Most of my friends haven't even.

I have seen videos though and yes there are the speedo grinding fags but you can't swing a cat with hitting lesbians rolling baby strollers.

There are big dykes on bikes too with their tits hanging out and their hairy armpits. Gross.

The gay pride parade here in Saint Petersburg, the largest in Florida, is full of churches. You should try going to one sometimes.

William म्हणाले...

Of all the problems confronting NY state I would put outlandish behavior at Gay Pride events pretty far down on the list. Shame on Paladino for even making this an issue. He should be talking about Rangel testimonial dinners, Hevesi taking a guilty plea for a million dollar bribe and walking without prison, a state senator who attacks his girl friend with a broken bottle and likewise walks, Cuomo involvement in HUD's support of NINJNA loans. This is dumb beyond belief.

Gay pride parades are not G rated. You shouldn't be taking your kids to them unless you want to expose them to t guys dressed in chaps with holes in the back to allow for anal penetration parading around and or having sex in the street or walking their lovers around with leashes.

Peter Hoh म्हणाले...

Scott, Paladino told his children about his other daughter, but kept the secret from his wife for 8 or 9 years. Then, after his oldest son died in an accident -- you can imagine his wife's emotional state -- he told her about his affair and the daughter it produced, because, in part, his dead son would have wanted her to know.

Mrs. Paladino decided to accept the girl into their family, and seems, from this article in the NYT, to be genuinely gracious about the whole affair.

My hat's off to her. If she wants to give a speech about what's moral and what's not, I suppose I'd listen. But her husband? I think he can lay off the moralizing.

Peter Hoh म्हणाले...

I realize the images that "Gay Pride Parade" conjures up for many people, but from what I've heard, there are plenty of pride parades that have become very tame over the past decade.

Yeah. Same goes for the bestiality porn email. It's not like Paladino was thrusting it in people's faces. He was just forwarding it to a few friends and business associates.

He is still guilty of hypocrisy. I watched an interview in which he said Cuomo did not understand and embrace family values like he did. Having an affair would sort of disqualify him from such holier-than thou moralizing.
