"How did the first president of color become so colorless?"

Asks Maureen Dowd:
The president is everywhere, trying to get more aggressive and recapture some of his “Yes we can” mojo in an effort to fend off the rebuke that’s barreling toward him from voters this fall.

I am sorry Ann, I can't read her on a Sunday morning, maybe later...but most likely never. I am going to worship my God and Creator and don't need her on my brain. I won't plant that seed this morning.
Have a great SUNDAY!

He was always rather colorless.

Just a garden-variety American Leftist. Maybe a little more insular than most.

Ask a seventeen year old girl why she has recently lost interest in the Jonas Brothers. She'd sound like Dowd.

When Liberal poseurs, like Maureen Dowd, suddenly, breathtakingly, realized that he was not going to push back the seas and be this mythical multi-racial Bobby Kennedy like politician. Now stuck with the junk they 'bought', they attempt to diminish their own culpability, by blaming their 'god', and returing to the safety of bashing Republicans like the narrow and small minded elitists that they are.

One can only imagine the cocktail party talk in the high salons of Manhattan.

Cheers!

He's not colorless. He's white.

White is a color.

Whiter bread than George W. Bush.

Michael म्हणाले...

"mojo." What a dumb word. Lame, old, white women use the word mojo. Cringe making.

The Dowd's convoluted reasoning that Obama voters were good but Obama was bad because he spent 20 months Compromising with the evil GOP is a self imposed delusion. The interesting thing is that Dowd is the canary within the Obama media conspiracy...and she just dropped dead from the poison gas of lies from the man who presumed to rule the world with lies. He forgot that one Alaskan with a facebook posting the truth could destroy all of the lies he could smile and tell so well.

Obama is pretty much an international ex-pat with a talent for acting like a Rorschach blot, but there really is not much there there

From my perspective, the money quote in the article was from Modo's sister Peggy....."he promised us everything".

These are highly educated people.....with no brain cells.

"my sister, Peggy, a formerly ardent Obamican (a Republican who changed spots to vote for Obama).
Disillusioned with her beloved W. over Iraq and Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld and the disdain for bipartisanship, she gave her affections — and small cash infusions — to Barack Obama in 2008.
Despite being a Washington native, Peggy believed that the dazzling young newcomer could change Washington.
But she has lost a lot of faith now, saying she might vote for Mitt Romney over Obama if Romney is the Republican nominee in 2012. (Sarah Palin shouldn’t count on her vote though. In Peggy’s words, “Are you nuts?”)
"

She'd vote for Obama again, so as to oppose Palin???

Goddamn RINOs. Maureen, please keep your sister on your side. She's an idiot of the highest order, and by that I mean a Democrat.

I think this meme must have been communicated on the Journolist. I heard this "always voted Republican, but had to vote for Obama" repeatedly in 2008.

It just doesn't match my experience. You may start with liberal ideas, but as we age we tire of the empty promises, and most folks swing hard to the right.

Right wing thinking is like Hotel California. You can never leave. You stop making excuses for others, and for your self.

Now excuse me, I need to go cling to my guns, and my religion.

In a word....No. Any can include Peggy Sue into that category.

Maureen Dowd needs to get her sister Peggy some counseling. The woman is clearly deranged, in some sort of fantasy land and is clearly unable to distinguish reality from wishes.

"He piddled around when he had 60 votes. He could have pushed through the health care bill but spent months haggling on it because he wanted to bring some Republicans on board. He was trying too hard to compromise when he didn’t need the Republicans and they were never going to like him. Any idiot could see that."

To paraphrase her sad sister Peggy. Is she nuts!. There was no attempt to compromise or work with Republicans. Pelosi and Reid rammed their legislation through Congress without any pretense of collaboration.

I agree there was no compromising on Obamacare. Most Americans supported a law that would enable competition between the states but Obama and the Dems refused to include that.

Obamacare was simply the 1st step on the way to nationalizing our health care system.

It appears Maureen is not the only idiot in her family.

Dust Bunny Queen म्हणाले...

On the other hand.

Maybe Maureen has a secret wish to humiliate and belittle her sister Peggy...... because in this article her sister comes off as a complete idiot, blithering, nincompoop who really should NOT be allowed to make any decisions in life about anything.

Good job Maureen. I don't know what she did to you when you were kids (probably stole your boyfriend) but you got even now!

Maureen Dowd hasn't been worth reading since September 11, 2001. She never recovered.

ricpic म्हणाले...

As has been pointed out a gazillion times Obama was and is a blank slate on which people projected their fantasies. He was elected by white suburban matrons who wanted the frisson of pulling the lever for a black. I actually don't see him as a blank slate. What he is is a vicious punk. But that's not the kind of color Maureen is so desperately looking for.

"I think this meme must have been communicated on the Journolist. I heard this 'always voted Republican, but had to vote for Obama' repeatedly in 2008."

And if that was actually true to any great degree then Obama would have gotten a lot more than 52% of the vote.

What he mostly got was the people who sometimes vote one way and sometimes the other. Hey, just like any other winning presidential candidate. But perhaps in slightly elevated numbers.

“He could have gotten it through while Teddy Kennedy was still alive — he owed the Kennedys something — and then the bill was watered down. Peggy thinks the president has done fine managing W.’s messes in Iraq and Afghanistan. And she lights up at the mention of his vice president, Joe Biden.

Just a garden-variety American Leftist. Maybe a little more insular than most.

The wheels are coming off the Leftist bandwagon and everyone is to blame but themselves.

The media has begun pissing into the tent and telling each other it's raining...to mix a metaphor and invert a LBJ quote...as they've bet the farm on Obama, Pelosi and Reed.

Remind me again, who were the rubes?

अनामित म्हणाले...

Like McWhorter said, Dowd gets nearly everything wrong on race.

I tried reading one of her books and it was so full of language play, allusions, and snark I couldn't get past a few pages.

She's a perfect example of how oversold the Left can be.

Frank Rich, Thomas Friedman, Maureen Dowd know little of what they speak when it comes to politics and economics imo.

J Lee म्हणाले...

You are who you are when it comes to personality, and it's hard to either change or hide it over a 1-2 year period when you're in your mid-40s.

Obama had to be bland, and the kind of guy who voted 'present' on most key issues because that's the only way get could have gotten elected. The fiery Barack Obama who Maureen Dowd pines for today would have freaked out a majority of Democratic primary voters in 2008, who would have gravitated to Hillary or even John "Pay No Attention to the National Enquirer" Edwards, and Obama never would have made it to the general election.

Lots of people on the left knew Obama was lying about his plans and hiding his real beliefs when he was running for president, but didn't care because they knew playing a more moderate Democrat was the only way Obama could get elected. But they also thought Obama was lying about his personality, and at the flick of a switch could morph from a low-keyed, laid-back, don't-stick-your-neck out-too-far politican into someone who could be aggressively angry and charismatic, instead of passively angry and whiny, which is the way most of the president's attacks come off nowadays.

He can't do it because it's just not in him to do it, and even if he could, with the legislative record and statements he's already made, throw aggressive anger into that mix, and you don't get moderate swing voters running back to you -- you get moderate swing voters thinking, "Hey this guy was listening to Jeremiah Wright in church," which probably isn't the best strategy going into the 2012 election.

I know, right?! It doesn't even seem like he wants to run for re-election. Perhaps that's becoming more known, evidence: Hillary's critical comment about national debt the greatest threat to American security. I think the FL pastor was the Obama Administration's attempt to deflect attention from Hillary's criticism.

William म्हणाले...

Peggy's criticism of Obama, however muddled and modest, has more toxins than many of the over the top critiques I read here. Too many critiques are insults rather than reasoned observations......I would define Obama's record more as a failure than as a fiasco. The oil spill, for example, was the fault of BP rather than Obama. I don't know if BP's culpability was that of a drunk driver speeding through a school zone or that of someone who failed to get their brakes checked. I don't think Obama does either, and, moreoever, I don't trust him to apportion blame in a fair way. Obama is a failure, but, life so much about him, a truly modest failure.

Snookie and Jwow were sitting on the beach talking about race in the last episode of Jersey Shore.

Snookie said she wanted to go bungee jumping and Jwow said that was what you called a white person's bucket list.

Snookie said "Hey I am not a white person."

"Well what are you then?"

"I'm tan. When you fill out ethnicity on the job application I check other and then fill in tan. Sometimes I think I don't get the job because of that. And it was for a tanning salon."

He's colorless because he's half white and the white half took over. If I can think of these things, why can't Dowd? She's the one who's paid to do it.

So what's the solution to this "black became white" pickle that Maureen and her sister find themselves in? I know, lets nominate Mr. T! He's not doing much these days, plus the guys on the NFL and NBL have a busy season coming up.

I find the phrase "of color" one of the more brain-curdling phrases in the P.C. lexicon. People of color?! So turning "colored" into a prepositional phrase somehow makes it acceptable? It's the sort of euphemism that I find particularly revolting.

Having been around, been friends with, been romantically involved with, taught and otherwise been intimately familiar with many "persons of color" in my life, I've never heard anyone use that phrase except upper-class white people and New York state and local government literature.

The only time I ever heard anyone use the phrase "person of color" out loud was at a meeting in graduate school, to which I inquired "What color are these people, exactly? Tawny pink? Taupe? Walnut brown? Yellow ochre? Since we're apparently classifying people based on hue, I'd prefer that we were specific, since everyone here is one color or another and no one is achromatic. We're all persons "of color". Unless of course you meant something else."

The speaker replied that he'd meant "ethnic people". Hilarity ensued.

If you want to step it up a notch, how about "people of pallor" for those of us who don't qualify under one of the subcategories of "people of color"?

The official, approved, phrase is "peoples of color."

jr565 म्हणाले...

Since when do people of color have to be colorful? ie. why is skin tone a sign of an intersting person. Granted it's merely a play on words by Maureen, but using said word play to refer to a black president as colored sounds kind of jarring to my ears. Not saying she's racist (that would be liberals on journolist making such charges) just not particularly politically correct.
How did he become colorless? when was he ever not so? He always came across like an ineffectual egg head and I was never impressed by his rhetoric unlike others who seemed to have ignored his personality and projected an interesting persona onto his squarishness that was never there. The guy always was a colorless bore.
And anyway, everyone knows he wasn't the first black (or president of color) president anyway. That honor belongs to Clinton. He cheats on his wife. He plays sax, he smoked pot. Just aks Maya Angelou.
