Yes, WaPo passes on the "what did they know and when did they know it" angle they would have surely applied had this been a Republican administration. Yawn.
In other news, Pravda has telegraphed that Politburo Elite Charles Rangel is now ungood, has always been ungood, and no longer has the doubleplusgood support of the Central Committee and Our Dear Leader:
The system of safe districts for African American Congress people is a blessing that keeps on giving. But Obama's gang has Chitown hijacked those valuable seats if an opening appears. It makes Rangel a victim.
The Thinker goes on to describe Sherrod’s involvement in the Pigford case, in which black farmers charged racism and won a settlement from the Department of Agriculture. Sherrod and her husband were beneficiaries of the suit. “More to the point, out of about $1 billion paid out so far in settlements, the largest amount has gone to the Sherrods’ New Communities Incorporated, which received some $13 million. As Time Magazine approvingly reported this week, $330,000 was ‘awarded to Shirley and Charles Sherrod for mental suffering alone.’
To be a Pigford plaintiff, you have to be a farmer, right?
When are you gonna come down When are you going to land I should have stayed on the farm I should have listened to my old man
You know you can't hold me forever I didn't sign up with you I'm not a present for your friends to open This sister's too rich to be singing the blues
So goodbye yellow brick road Where the dogs of society howl You can't plant me in your penthouse I'm going back to my plough
Back to the howling old owl in the woods Hunting the horny back toad Oh I've finally decided my future lies Beyond the yellow brick road
What do you think you'll do then I bet that'll shoot down your plane It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics To set you on your feet again
Maybe you'll get a replacement There's plenty like me to be found Mongrels who ain't got a penny Sniffing for tidbits like you on the ground
So goodbye yellow brick road Where the dogs of society howl You can't plant me in your penthouse I'm going back to my plough
Back to the howling old owl in the woods Hunting the horny back toad Oh I've finally decided my future lies Beyond the yellow brick road
Somehow, I don't think Sherrod intends on going back to her plough, unless it's a taxpayer money plough.
Though I am sure Secretary Vilsack has sincere reasons for offering Ms. Sherrod a position, it is also worth noting that offers of reinstatement generally cut-off claims for back pay.
Apparently the Dept. of Agriculture has now accepted - at Sherrod value - roughly 80,000 claims from displaced black farm owners in Georgia - despite the fact that there are less than half that number of farms (black, white, Asian) in all Georgia.
Sofa King, actually the question of how much reputational injury you can suffer when 1) the allegedly defamatory publication is "corrected" within a very short period of time.
As I recall, the introductory titles to the edited video climed that the event Ms. Shrrod was recounting occurred while she was an U.S. government official, but the text of Mr. Brietbart's post intorducing the video did not explicitly make that statement.Did Mr. Brietbart insert the introductory titles, did he merely pass them on, without comment, and should he have included any caveats about them? Anybody out there know details on this point?
Almost Ali said... "Apparently the Dept. of Agriculture has now accepted ..roughly 80,000 claims from .. black farm owners.. - despite the fact that there are less than half that number of farms in all Georgia."
Well Chemical Ali never met a fact that he can't get wrong. At the time in question (80s and 90s) indeed there were about 75,000 farms in Georgia with about 45% black ownership...no good records. 20,000 claims were filed and about 12,000 were approved. 80,000 late claims were filed and disallowed.
Maybe just a little bit of reading would prove useful so that when you dummy up information you might get it past the rest of us.
Vilsack will get the sack as soon as the November elections are over.
From the report of his own lawyers:
USDA lawyers who conducted the review issued five recommendations (summarized below):
1.) The department should follow existing resignation protocol and review all relevant facts before making a decision.
2.) All senior officials related to a decision should be consulted before Vilsack makes any final decisions.
3.) Officials should use courtesy and respect when interacting with political appointees about performance issues and give them a chance to respond.
4.) Senior officials should regularly inform others of updates to their contact information and "priority information" should be quickly shared with senior staffers.
5.) The department should review the travel schedules of senior officials to ensure enough of them are in Washington to help avoid making hasty decisions. Vilsack was on a two-day tour of Ohio on the day Sherrod resigned; his chief of staff, Karen Ross, was visiting family in Tennessee.
In the private sector, he would already be gone.
The main question is, how much White House pressure did he get before firing her? Or did he become a complete idiot completely on his own?
This case tells volumes about the Obama administration.
(In other news, housing sales fell 27% in July after the withdrawal of the $8000 federal homeowner credit. Once again the "stimulus" simply raided the Treasury and gave the illusion of recovery by stealing future transactions. Woe is us, and woe is Obama.)
HD: Among other things, it speaks of lack of courage and stupidity. "The White House" fired Shirley Sherrod. That is what she said. Obama and Vilsack made a knee jerk and gutless quick call to fire her.
HDHouse wrote:shit man. save it. we have been hearing your chant of stupidity for years - non facts piled on non issues and it is bone weary.
Wow, your describing my reaction to 8 years of Bush bashing exactly. Bone weary is an understatement. As to the obstructionism charge, what about the whole "Speaking truth to power" you guys were so fond of only 2 years ago? Suddenly speaking truth to power means you are a racist to the core. It's funny how quickly the left goes from the aggrieved minority to the majority carrying endless race cards. When you're the minority again, I'm sure you'll dust off the old "speaking truth to power" and "Republican president = Nazi" charges. For now though remember. Democrats control all branches of govt. So your argument about the mean old obstructing republicans is a hollow one.

Mr. Rangel shot back that it was not his dignity the president should be worried about.
Anonymous sources suggest Goldstein is involved.

I am always confusing her with the Republican Senatorial Candidate in Nevada.
That says something.

How soon before this before she makes a run for a congressional seat under the guise of social justice?
Shirley Sherrod is 65 years old. What she does not want is any difficulties about her retirement entitlements.
Why take the job? I'm sure she's already looking at a new lawsuit that's much more lucrative.
Though I am sure Secretary Vilsack has sincere reasons for offering Ms. Sherrod a position, it is also worth noting that offers of reinstatement generally cut-off claims for back pay.
Not to mention her defamation suit against Bretibart for painting her unflattering remarks in an unflattering light.
The administration wanted to kiss and make up. She wasn't interested.
If I were The Zero, I'd be a little concerned about that.
The woman scorned, etc.
Why all the kowtowing to Sherrod? She's a self-admitted racist. Isn't that the highest crime of all?
The price of reparations is going up:

Watch your typos, folks. Hes a real stickler about apostrophes.

What are her damages at this point? She had the opportunity to get her job back and refused.

Probably ought not to hold your breath waiting for Shirley to sue for defamation. http://www.counterpunch.org/wilkins08022010.html
HDHouse:
Your defense of Shirley Sherrod's non-existent Georgia farms is admirable.
In fact, I expect the 80,000 number to rise exponentially - as USDA's chicken-little notices hit the projects:
Dear 80,000;
If you ever owned a flower pot, please reapply. And tell your friends.
Tom Vilsack
