Chickelit: It is (walking distance, actually), though I'm in Newark, Delaware right now. Last Saturday, we watched fireworks bursting in the sky over and beyond the Centennial Bridge (here in Althouse's photo) from our vantage point standing on the Arsenal Bridge, just east of the Centennial. Quite beautiful.
My grandparents lived in Davenport. When we visited, when I was a kid, the fun thing to do after dinner was go downtown and look at the highwater marks on the buildings from historic floods.
We're heading down to the gulf next week for a vacation. A relative is getting married in Mobile, so we had planned to stay extra and make a nice beach trip out of it. Planned, of course, before all of this happened.
At least I feel good about spending money there. God knows their tourism industry is suffering. The relative says that she can smell the oil when she steps outside. I wonder what it will be like.
mmm, figured i would send you this link because it is frankly hilarious.

I mean that has had me laughing for like 10 minutes now...

That is a beautiful River sunset scene.Thanks.
Perfect piicture. And, having grown up on that river, I can attest to how beautiful it really is, particularly in the summertime.

Ohio cotton "Sheepless" Thursday afternoon.
Enlarge pic, and listen to Jann Arden "Sleepless" audio from another window.
Mark Twain would have given you a peck on the cheek for those shots, Madame.
Ah Rock Island, Home of the Arsenal and when you get tired, you can cross the Missisippi and go to sleep in an Iowa Davenport.
