The John Deere Classic heads towards Sunday. But how many John Deere machines run on batteries? And if not, why are they polluting the world? But if CO2 ppm increases are good for plants, then that is OK. Feeding 6 billion people is hard work. But eliminating oil and coal energy would shut down agriculture and let 5 billion starve...Malthusian purity sometimes needs a little cooperation from World Government.
I think that "securing the border," enforcing illegal alien laws, immigration law reform, and what to do about the longterm "non-documented" residents we already have, are separate issues, none of which can be turned around by any one Congress. If it is wanted to be done, it is going to take time and effort to work out a consensus about each issue and get get it adopted and put into effect.
All I see at the present time is each party stupidly demagoguing for immediate electoral advantage and not even trying to resolve the issues, now or in the future.
back in the city -- downstairs neighbor has something wrong with his a/c unit (besides running it when he is not even there ... these are small apartments!), and the vibration is audible in my apartment, at some measuring points passing the legal limit. These are condos so we all own. I've spoken with our "management company," they have said there is nothing to be done. I have spoken t the owner, who initially I think set the thing to run to low as his solution, and it was better. But that was last Fall and now it's summer in the city, and that thing is going nonstop (though it's only in the 80s now - gosh we've become such wimps).
- US employment started down in late 2007, huge porkulus, out of control deficits and employment may double dip
- Canada to the North, same basic market economy. employment starts down in late 2007, they tighten their fiscal belts. Employment is almost fully recovered. Canadian Dollar strong
Between the G20 riots (Pittsburgh and Toronto), the pro-immigration violence in Arizona, and the threats of riots by leftist groups in Oakland I think we may have finally reached a point where even the media is going to be unable to claim the TP is dangerous.
I'm on my way to Box Elder, South Dakota. Getting a little wifi in at a McD's off of Hwy 169.
This country is headed to civil war, isn't it? One would like to think that HDHouse, garage, jeremy, or AlphaSockPuppet were isolated flaming nutjobs, but they're not. Most of them work in government, or at companies that service government. It really is the statists vs. the normal productive people.
And reasoning with them? They puke their little tropes or talking points; but if you respond at length, they never engage you in a dialog. You might as well not exist.
I think all the zombie movies (George Romero's and others) are a metaphor for American politics. It's the Zombiecrats versus the real live humans.
Every era has its challenges, but the one we're in really sucks, and Democrats make it that way.
ahhh but Canada didn't have George Bush to contend with...soooo unfair.
Your theory is backwards
Their economy crashed just like the Bush Economy in 2008.
What is different is that they don't have Obama, thus their economy recovered just fine in 2009.
Sarge, never forget Canada had Stephen Harper, a trained economist, as PM, who instituted a policy of fiscal responsibility.
As you note, the US had The Zero, a community organizer and demagogue of no proven ability, who forced on this country all the policies which have bankrupted Western Europe.
PS I said people would just laugh and tear his argument to pieces.
This is why I utterly despise cultural conservatives. They are nothing more than pro-life, anti-gay liberals who have no problem using the heavy hand of government to enforce their morality.

You're in SOUTH DAKOTA and you've decided the country's headed toward civil war? Heaven forbid you head into any big cities. You'd see WWIII.
Anyway, you'd be surprised to find a lot of REPUBLICANS who are long time federal government (and Congressional staffers) job holders in Washington, DC.
God help me, but I agree with Julius. The Tenth Amendment should protect us from DOMA. Also from the Department of Education, the Health Care Reform Act, the EPA, all perversions of the commerce clause, and on and on ad nearly infinitum. Wouldn't you agree, Julius?
* Because of a new NYT story, only now are some r/w bloggers waking up to the DHS's new non-deportations strategy. That link is from eight months ago, where I tried without success to get people to go ask JanetN questions about that policy.
Althouse: What's the status of your effort to get the Journolist archives? Here's hoping you've been successful because that so-called little kids romper-room den needs to have a full airing. I doubt whether there'll be any more doubt as to the duplicity of the modern day journalist once we see how much parroting goes on in the romper-room.
I'm no liberal, stick boy... I want the existing D.C. Establishment destroyed, including the things you list along with most of the rest. Let the federal government focus on the military and the otherwise bare necessities, and no more.
Taking the Tenth Amendment seriously is the way to get there, especially when combined with fiscal conservatism at the national level. When the states compete, you win. When the federal government practices austerity, you win.
Federalism on social issues + Fiscal conservatism = A political strategy that Americans will get behind and that is best for the country.

Gosh Ann if I write first the neo-con tea party here will go crazy so I'll just go cut the lawn.
Side to side, paint fence, wax on, wax off, cut grass.
I must now ask: What's the difference between an open thread and a cafe thread?
Other than a photo to get the discussion started?
And if that be it, -- well, that's cool.
"Sinnerman"
'Cuz I was just listening to it.

Here's National Fascist living up to its true name with commentary on this week's DOMA decision by Judge Tauro in Massachusetts.
I bet you wonder where in National Fascist's piece is the Tenth Amendment mentioned? Well, it's NOT in the fucking article! Nowhere!
Fascinating, isn't it? The whole basis of Tauro's decision is misrepresented.
