"The internet's completely over... The internet's like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated."

"Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you."

Sayeth Prince.

The Artist Formerly Known As "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince", responsible for the song "1999", is saying something's over and outdated.

Well, I mean, he would know, right?

OK, I'll take the softball:

And Prince is like MTV. At one time Prince was hip, and suddenly he became outdated.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Prince is right again.

Kevin म्हणाले...

Well, Prince would know all about being hip and then suddenly becoming outdated...

Prince's completely over... The Prince's like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated.

Prince's jumping the shark date was when he became "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince" and when we all partied like it was 1999 and we did not listen to Price's song on the subject that much.

Considering I haven't heard of Prince since the 80s, I'm going to stick with the Net a bit longer.

Re: filling your head with numbers, and that can't be good: he has a point, cf. Erdös, Cantor, Boltzmann, Gödel, Nash, Bloch, Kaczynski...

At one time... hip and suddenly it became outdated.

Like Prince?

So we're going to see the internet go the way of vinyl records? Probably not. It seems Prince's issue with the internet is the inability to totally control it. Which is a problem other artists deal with in different ways.

Before the internet, he had issues with Warner Bros, his label at the time.

Sounds like he's still in the JhW phase of his luddite/sybarite cycle.

Has anyone pointed out to him that CDs are digital and thus are nothing but numbers? Is he releasing only vinyl these days? Hell, has he retired?

Brian म्हणाले...

My comment appears to have been lost. Oh well.

So is the internet going to go the way of vinyl records? I don't think so. Prince has an issue with the ability to control his music on the internet. Before the internet is was issues with his label (e.g. Warner Bros).

Different artists have reacted in different ways to this.

Are we talking about the same internet here? If porn is filling your head with numbers, you're doing it wrong.

Yea, better to have a head full of Jehovah's Witness stuff.

That'll fix you (but not your career or your music) right up.

On a related note,...

I think the internet will beat the blouses and offer up some pancakes.

Back in 1995, I was convinced the internet was going to be the next New Coke.

Now I'm not so sure. . .

Prince wishes he could party like it was 1988, by the time it was 1999 noone could remember him let alone know what to call him. When last hear from I think he was going by the Treble cleft symbol.
By the way Prince, if I were writing an apocalyptic
song about the end of the world I wouldn't call it 1999, 2000 party over oops out of time. Because if I partied like it was 1999 t I wouldn't be out of time,I'd still have a whole year to go and thus could continue partying for a while longer. because the century and millenium and the apocalypse wouldn't role around till the end of the year 2000, not the beginning. (Centuries and millenium end at the end of the year 0 not at the end of the year 99).
