Gawker:
Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh, 59, is marrying his 33-year-old girlfriend Kathryn Rogers in Palm Beach this Saturday. He's said some nice things about Gawker in the past, so we wanted to wish him and his betrothed a lifetime of happiness. But Rush is not inviting members of the media to the event for some reason. So we came up with a work-around and rented one of those big airborne billboards to fly down the coast—and over his house—during the wedding.Nothing too amusing in the comments there so far.
Now we need your help in coming up with a pithy slogan to share with Rush, his bride-to-be, and the assembled guests. Submit them in the comments, please!
By chance, Rush's last show before the wedding hiatus had to cover the breakup of the Gore marriage. He was noticeably kind-hearted about it:
Ladies and gentlemen, Algore and Tipper amidst all of this, separated. Forty years of marriage. The interesting thing about this, you can't say, "You know, they just didn't really know each other. They got married too soon. Their lives changed just way too much." Forty years. Forty years and you split up. That is not comforting....He quotes Sally Quinn on CBS saying: "I've been on the phone with friends ever since I heard it yesterday, and everyone feels as though somehow their own marriages have split up. It's -- you know, watching the Gores is sort of looking at the possibilities of what a good marriage could be, and when they -- when it doesn't work for them you sort of think, 'Oh, my God, maybe it's not possible.'" Rush finds that quite bizarre:
How many of you, I must ask, how many of you who have known friends who got divorced felt like your marriage was dissolving at the same time? Any of you? You know what you're thinking about when a couple you know gets divorced? You're thinking, "Okay, which one of them do we like best? Which one are we going to continue to socialize with and which one are we gonna ostracize." That's what you're thinking. You're not thinking, "Oh, my God, oh, my God, my marriage is in trouble, too. Why, Biff and Sally here just split up."He's into believing in marriage there — even as he zeroes in on the hilarious (and painful!) truth.
All right, you want me to explain it to you? The Gore divorce. I'm stunned none of my bright, overrated staff understand what really happened here. You separate after a 40-year marriage? I mean, that's... (sigh) That's just not done.He sighs!
How often do you hear about that? Now, what it seems to me... This a pure, wild guess speculation, but it's also intelligence guided by experience. If you are separating after 40 years, it means that there's been trouble in paradise for many years. However, look at what's happened now. The kids are all gone; they're out of the nest.A caller suggests that Al cheated on Tipper:
She stood out of the way and let Algore make his gazillions. She gets out just before Algore starts the drooling old man part of his life. She's rich and she's got her whole life ahead of her....
RUSH: That's hard to envision....Another caller:
CALLER: The key word, Rush, is money. Whichever way it goes. I think it's to protect his fortune somehow. He ends it there, sounding genuinely circumspect.
RUSH: Or... Well, yeah. That's not exactly my theory. You said you were calling to agree with my theory.
CALLER: Yeah. Well, it's something to do with money. That's all I know.
RUSH: Well, my theory -- I don't need to go through it again but my theory -- basically was if you're going to get divorced after 40 years, it can't all have been hunky-dory but you hang in there for various reasons. The kids...
CALLER: Yeah. I would hate to think it's an affair, I really would.
RUSH: Yeah, that's just... That's the stuff of nightmares. That wouldn't compute. I totally agree.

Its Rush's way of spreading the wealth around. Rush is a socialist ;)
At this rate Rush is going to surpass the number of combined marriages of the Gabor sisters.
Rush is a romantic. The pre-nup needs a team of consultant lawyers to do it right this time. FREE ADVICE: When you mate with a partner 26 years younger than you, she will have an expiration date in mind. When you marry a woman over 55, she will be a loyal and loving companion because she wants the marriage to last.
Rush's upcoming marriage came up somewhere a couple months ago, but I didn't hear of it again.
It was the basis of an Imus remark about Rush's heart attack and his doctor on TV, referring to the somewhat dumpy doctor as "Rush's new wife."
Many years ago Rush instructed the staff on the air that if he ever contemplated marriage again, to take him away in a straight jacket.
Imus's recent remark on Rush's 33-year-old party planner marriage: "Yeah, that'll work."
Rush though is temperamentally an optimist. The perfect husband, if it's not beat out of him.
Rush's last wife Marta, on the day after Rush announced the divorce on the air somewhat neutrally, asked him to announce on the air that it was Rush that wanted the divorce, not her.
I took that as her loyalty being important to her; against which some preferences of Rush trump loyalty.
You have to infer preferences and dispreferences, about which we have no information.
i would say de-link gawker.
This is scummy. The man has a right to a peaceful wedding day, not for it to be a media circus. Gawker is being a bunch of dicks.
cont
Rush's divorce came right after he came back from oxycontin rehab, where he took some seminar he often praises as life-changing, the lesson being don't try to please other people.
So I'd guess that former wife Marta wasn't showing him that she was satisfied with him, however loyal she was.
Aka a nag, the usual reason.
I was pretty sure that Rush was getting married again this week when Mark Levin announced that he was going to be away for a few days.
Palm Beach must be Trophy Wife Central.
Imus's recent remark on Rush's 33-year-old party planner marriage: "Yeah, that'll work."
Imus is 24 years older than his wife.. just saying.
btw, i left a suggestion. let's see if it makes it through gawker's filters:
"We are d*cks who don't have a life so we intrude on your wedding day."
Two words:
Nikolas Sarkozy.
Imus's recent remark on Rush's 33-year-old party planner marriage: "Yeah, that'll work."
Heh. Although at least 33 is a grown woman, not like these people who marry 20 year olds. (although it’s weird to think of being my age and marrying rush, bleck).
Rush though is temperamentally an optimist. The perfect husband, if it's not beat out of him.
You think Rush would make the perfect husband? I don’t see that. You don’t get to 4 – 5 marriages without doing something wrong.
i submitted this comment to gawker:
"unclevanya: my point is you should all be ashamed of yourselves.
"What exactly has Rush Limbaugh done that is so awful that you feel he can't have a single day of peace? And indeed, it is so awful, that his bride-to-be deserves to be collateral damage in this? Yeah, you have a right to be offensive jerks. I have actively stood up and defended the right to be offensive jerks. But that doesn't mean you should be."
And most of the people here know i did stand up for the right to be offensive jerks in relation to the everyone draw mohammed protest.
What is this number 4-5? Dude should just take a hint that maybe marriage ain't his bag.

Wedding number 4 for Rush. Why doesn't he just do what other men have suggested and find a woman he doesn't like and give her a house?
Well it is hard for Rush to envision being married more than a few years to anyone and he knows he will be lucky to see four years let alone forty with number four.
Rue McLanahan was married six times, may she rest in peace. Maybe Rush feels competitive?
Christie Brinkley has been married four times, and I'd like to be husband #5.

Goodness!
He doesn't know much about marriage. Who does? On the other hand, he has got the pre nup and divorce drill down pat.....I think the ideal we should all aspire to is an amicable divorce and a reasonable property settlement.
You know, this is the last time i will harp on this for a while, but this is exactly like those westboro baptist church idiots. It is childish and it diminishes any cause they are attempting to promote. There are certain times when a person deserves peace and quiet. funerals and weddings would be the most obvious examples.
I mean look at Larry King! Mrs. Hoosier once remarked that sex with him must be like that first time you start up that spinning sprinkler where it jerks, sputters and takes forever for it to start working.
That is some bad imaging. Bad, bad, bad.
People should have their eyes open about the institution of marriage. It's tough, and it fails a lot. I've been married for almost four years. We just had some friends get divorced after only a year (despite being together for 8 years), and literally my first response was to inspect my marriage, think about whether we were vulnerable like that, and have the urge to go home and hug my wife. So maybe Rush is hilarious, and maybe it's his truth, but it's hardly THE truth. You must work to protect your marriage; otherwise you really can lose it.

The guy was being charitable. Even when you're nice to them, the Lefties can't take it.
Did you see the "intelligence guided by experience" bit? Rush must have read Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe novels, because that is exactly the advice, in those exact words, that Wolfe gives Archie Goodwin to guide him when working on a case. I'd be willing to bet that Rush is a fan of the Wolfe stories.

That is truly beautiful. Well only four years makes you a honeymooner still so its all good. But you'll know your marriage will stand the test of time when your wife walks in to brush her teeth while you're taking a dump.
Now that's true love pal and you better never let that one go ;-)
"When you marry a woman over 55, she will be a loyal and loving companion because she wants the marriage to last"
Don't be so sure. It's hard to put up with marriage after you've been on your own, self supporting and with your own interests and career. It's easier to meld together when you're young and and still unformed.
Btw, on the gore marriage, i think i meant to say this the other day but didn't. "Growing apart?" are you kidding me?
Look i am nearly 6 years under my belt for the marriage and i know enough to know that its a pathetic excuse. we need to understand, all of us, that marriage is a commmittment, it requires work, it requires learning to put aside pride when needed, it requires self examination and self improvement. "grew apart." no, that isn't it. failure to committ is the problem. i have no respect for divorce on those grounds. they should have more respect for marriage than to give up that easily.
You aren't keeping up if you don't know it's #4 off the top of your head.
The change to 100% companiate marriage from the tradition of 1/3 companiate, 1/3 avoiding the sin of fornication, and 1/3 production of children as expressed in the Book of Common Prayer has made for less enduring marriages.
Women might be a little more understanding of multi-millionaire top-of-the-ladder-of-success husbands than they are in the modern era. What do they want egg in their beer?
Rush has no natural children. I wonder if he has surgically intervened to prevent conception. His new wife would be young enough to repro.
He came from a big close family. Lack of children may have been a mistake.
It was the basis of an Imus remark about Rush's heart attack and his doctor on TV, referring to the somewhat dumpy doctor as "Rush's new wife."
Did he actually have a heart attack? I thought it was a false alarm.
Kirstin,
"Nicolas Sarkozy is 55, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is 42. Hardly the same thing."
It isn't if you're focused on ages - which I never mentioned (I love how people will do that: is it really too much, Miss Information, to ask "What do you mean?")
I meant Nicolas Sarkozy's second "marriage" appears to have been just the distraction necessary to knock him off his conservative game.
I think Rush is being stupid.

Dude, get a few more years of marriage under your belt and then talk. 40 years is a long time.
It was too cryptic for me, Mr. Emcee.
PS I believe that this is Sarkozy's third marriage.
FROM CAROL HERMAN
One word: Menopause.
Women can't fight it. And, men just sag, and lose interest. It's just easier to blame the woman.
A long time ago, Elliot Gould who had just been divorced by Barbra Streisand, was asked by Jo
nny Carson, "what happened?"
Elliot Gould replied: "Penicillin."
Marriages seemed to last back when infections killed women during and after childbirth. He said with penicillin, the infection problem was solved. But marriages, he said, really don't do well after seven years.
Bob, I logged on to comment about the "intelligence guided by experience" phrase also. I'm re-reading "The Doorbell Rang" now.
Limbaugh's compassion for Gore's failed marriage shows a side of him we don't often see. I like the classy way he rejects a caller's invitation to take a shot at Gore. I wish Limbaugh knew how many friends he made by showing compassion about someone else whose marriage landed on the rocks.
Rush does not or ever has taken shots at others private lives. He is a gentleman. He can disagree with Gore's politics, etc, but he understands things like family, marriage divorce....effect the person and is compassionate.
I really don't care how many times Rush has or is going to be married, that is his life, I just listen to his opinions, philosophies, .... agree or not, he is a force.
