"Add a couple in Banlon pantsuits and the dry look and you'd have a KTEL or Sessions album cover..."

Palladian critiques my photograph and does the artwork to drive home what cheeseball hicks he thinks we are to like sunsets:

Cheeseball hicks in looooooove.

What I actually thought when I saw your sunset picture was that even Althouse couldn't make a sunset photograph that was not a cliche.

Sunsets are wonderful to look at in person, but it's like a photograph of the grand canyon or of the moon--the essence is missing.

I think that perhaps photography is fundamentally a quiet medium.

TMink म्हणाले...

Great job Palladian, that is really on target.

Unlike Althouse's picture in the original post, Palladian's rework instantly spawned the following earworm (sorry, Althouse, I believe you don't like that term): "Love, soft as an easy chair...", from a song I hated then and since. Damn your eyes, Palladian! I shall not forgive until that [w]retch of song is exorcised from my head, which could take hours!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

(Would start plotting revenge, but oh, oh I just cannot think, cannot think. That song! That song! That squirming, worming song!)

As my whimsy leads me.. म्हणाले...

It better have "Baby I'm a Want You" on it.

I liked the photo btw.

The cheesiest of cheese must go on this album:

I remember all my life,
raining down as cold as ice
shadows of a man,
a face through a window
crying in the night
the night goes into morning (just another day)
happy people pass my way
looking in their eyes
I see a memory
I never realized how happy you made me
Oh Mandy,
well you came and you gave without taking,
but I sent you away!
Oh Mandy,
well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking
and I need you today....
Oh Mandy!!!

Love...love will keep us together.. Think of me whenever

I have written a letter to Palladian describing the record as "obscene" and "defamatory" and stating (if he goes ahead) I would have my lawyer stop the production ;)

He could have at least 'shopped the couple to look more like you and Meade.

It is pretty funny though! And finally I agree with fls, what soft rock album would be complete without something from Manilow (and Bread, too, whimsy)!

Dust Bunny Queen म्हणाले...

Thats a good one FLS. When Cher was uniquely beautiful. Before she went under the knife.

How about this one for cheesy.

This is fun

Hoosier Daddy म्हणाले...

Oh mother**** pleeze. Althouse is about the farthest thing from a hick as you can get. You wouldn't catch a hick sitting in some fancy pants hippie cafe taking pictures of her cucumber sandwihch and half-decaf mocha latte with a twist and posting it on her blog.

John Borell म्हणाले...

I think I just peed my pants laughing, but I'm a cheeseball hick, too.

Wince म्हणाले...

What, no Bread ?

Gee, thanks, DBQ. Right back atcha.

(And let us not forget.)

By the way, none of that's working on the earworm. Normally, I do one of two things: 1) Listen to the damn thing in question until it wears itself out, or
2) Listen to something either a) very, very metal or b) very, very atonal or some such [or both].

Out of luck today. I hate "Evergreen" so much, even I don't have it and won't spring 99 cents for it. And we just adopted a new kitty late yesterday, and she's still way too freaked for me to inflict option #2 on her.

Alas. Doomed.

अनामित म्हणाले...

That's brilliant.

HILARIOUS!

While we're at it, this came to mind:

By the way, my word verification was lumoris, which I think is when a particular lighting scheme ends up being humorous.

Omaha1 म्हणाले...

Remember, goodbye doesn't mean forever!

You might think those earworms are gone but they will be back...

wv: affilyt - a filly what?

J म्हणाले...

Terry Jacks and Paper Lace? Is this available on CD?

WV - panuffe: what you say when you don't want any more pancakes.

Dust Bunny Queen म्हणाले...

You know it is funny. I actually knew David Gates. He used to live nearby. I had never heard of him or Bread (the group) because I seriously avoided listening to this genre of music in the 70's.

When told by someone (breathlessly because they were really impressed) that David Gates from Bread had a ranch on XXXXXX road. I was all like. Who? What? Bread? (thinking... bakery owner?)

Listening reminds me again why I didn't know these songs.

BTW: He was/is a very very nice man with a lovely family who deserves all the success in the world.

As my whimsy leads me.. म्हणाले...

DBQ,

Does he still have really, really skinny legs? I saw him in a concert once, and thought I hadn't had legs that small since I was about 18 months old.

J: Yes.

(Dirty secret: I have, squirreled away, most of these songs people are mentioning, mostly for comedic reasons though not in all cases [and at least one song from all but two of the folks listed on Palladian's album].

But NOT "Evergreen," by God [or anything by Rex Smith or Livingston Taylor.]

P.S. I used to do a mean Leo Sayer imitation, which I perfected for reasons I won't share.)

Kirk Parker म्हणाले...

lem @ 12:15pm-- LOL!!!

XWL म्हणाले...

I know this isn't a competion, but after perusing my shots from the past year or so, I think this little snap of mine out cliches the MeadeHouse sunset and would probably have served as a perfect album cover for a set of 'lite classical, strings for lovers' recordings.

(my shot not only has a setting sun, but crashing waves on rocks, too!)

Omaha1 म्हणाले...

reader, like this?

EK म्हणाले...

Palladin should try some Nimoy Sunset Pie!

reader_iam म्हणाले...

Omaha1: That'd be the exact one!

former law student म्हणाले...

For all you Leo Sayer h8erz: Long Tall Glasses is quite OK.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Hey, I never have half-decaf or mocha! Or decaf, period.

Hoosier Daddy म्हणाले...

And that song list is bullshit since there is no mention of ABBA or The Starlight Vocal Band.

I expected better of Palladian.

Unknown म्हणाले...

Ah, yes, the decade that taste forgot. While I remember most of those songs, the closest I came to them was the radio. Proud to say I never bought one of them.

reader_iam म्हणाले...

Aw, honey, honey. Poor Hoosier: No afternoon delight for you today!

; )

reader_iam म्हणाले...

Here, Hoosier: Starland Vocal Band.

(God, that's awful. The Grammys never worked for me, after that.)

Phil 314 म्हणाले...

Are you suggested "crap" is a musical genre?

michael farris म्हणाले...

I guess it says nothing good about me that I really want that album...

Dust Bunny Queen म्हणाले...

"seriously avoided listening to this genre of music in the 70's."

Are you suggested "crap" is a musical genre?

LOL evidently it is since we can all pick out samples of it.

Leo Sayers. I sort of like this one of his He made me thing of a horse jockey that got too big to ride the horses and took up singing as a back stop career.

reader_iam म्हणाले...

Here's one I can recall my father actually swearing over.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

I heard that Amazon has this record overstocked and sells for only $2.99; but it seems that the shipping and handling is done only by Meade Express and costs $900.00 COD.

Dust Bunny Queen म्हणाले...

"Cheeseball Hicks in Love" would actually be a great name for an album.

Omaha1 म्हणाले...

and don't forget about the dead dog of a song that is literally about a dead dog, by the appropriately named Henry Gross...

Shannon

reader, I hated "Havin' My Baby" and I was still a teenager when it came out. The only song I recall my parents being disturbed by (but never swearing, they were good Baptists) was Do It Til You're Satisfied.

Meade म्हणाले...

At night, when the bars close down
Ann A walks through a silent town
And loves a man, who's not around
She still can hear him say, she hears him say

"Ann A, you're a fine girl
What a good wife you would be
But my life, my lover, my lady
Is the sea"
