In the garden, there were long shadows on the melting snow...
... the golden pavilion glowed in the setting sun...
... and I got distracted by the birch tree that a beaver had reduced to a stump....

That tree is the right size for beavers to chop down and carry off whole over night. Homeowners near streams who are not used to seeing that sight the next morning always presume that a vandalising neighbor has done it. Nobody believes an animal is that good at its work...busy as a beaver.
The Chicago Public Library was closed today for Casimir Pulaski day. Wikipedia says Wisconsin celebrates Pulaski Day on March 4. I wonder if the law school will be closed to honor the Revolutionary War hero and Father of the American Cavalry.
FLS...That explains why their is a Fort Pulaski that was built pre-Civil War that guards the river approach to Savannah from the sea. We don't have many Polish Georgians.
Today is St. David's Day, patron saint of Wales.
There's a lot of Welshiness in my family foliage. Mum was a Gower, paternal Nanna was a Hughes. IIRC there's Davies in there too.
BIL's family is very Welsh, too. His mum's maiden name is Bevan, and there's a town in Wales all Bevan-named, where they're from, I've seen it. His sis' name is Llora. Pronounced Laura but they went for a Welshy spelling.
Wales is beautiful. I like a little town called Crickhowell. We have BIL's kin there. Arriving there on the evening of September 11, 2001, after driving all day without the radio on, our host rushes out to meet us and drags us in her house...showing us the news coverage on the telly. She never watches telly but her son called from Turkey to ask what was going on--there was a media blackout in Turkey.
Her house has a Roman fireplace. As in, Romans built it!
The streets are too narrow to park on. We have to park along the field at the bottom of the hill and walk up to the house.
It's beautiful.

Beavers have a way of doing that to good wood.

Pulaski was mortally wounded leading a charge during the fight to oust the Redcoats from Savannah. Like Pennsylvania, Georgia remembers its fallen sons.
I've been to Fort Pulaski.
Global Warming claims more victims:
Parents shoot self & kids in apparent suicide pact over Global Warming
Thanks Al.
I tried to find more details about the global warming murder-suicide but couldn't.
Checking the Argentine papers, we find that the couple was weird in general. Neighbors didn't even know they had children. The dad -- heir to a wealthy family from Esquina -- sold folk remedies This led to his meeting his 33 years younger wife when she was 19, after treating her girlfriend of a stomach ailment. The mom was found in the kitchen with a .38 in her hand.
FLS - bottom line you AGWist are fucking nuts and dangerous.

From this article it sounds like he ran though his inheritance. The mother was his girlfriend, not his wife -- I stand corrected. Going from being well off to being broke is a more plausible reason for murder-suicide, than the abstraction of global warming, in my opinion.
