I think that was the worst episode of "American Idol" ever.
Throwing Things has some detail. Just horrendous. Like a competition to see who could be worst. How could Paige be that bad and it yet not be clear that she's the one who'll have to leave?

Perhaps it was the worst, other than Crystal, no one offers any interest. Paige was as horrible as any contestant at this stage ever, yet far from the only bad performance.
She's the most needing to go, I think she's melting down. The others are just bad (I'm being nice).
"I think that was the worst episode of "American Idol" ever."
I haven't watched every season. But from what I have seen, It was the worst I have seen.
They were no good, they were no good, baby they were no good.
Total agreement. Paige was off-key while singing a horrible song. What could be worse? Tim was absolutely ripped to pieces by the judges -- mostly deservedly -- so much that he broke into a cold sweat!
Would it kill the contestants to sing something current? Or to acknowledge that when they sing a song written by someone who just died this week, they mention that little factoid? Yes, I'm talking to you Lee Dewyze: Do you know who wrote The Letter?
That was one of the worse episodes ever. It almost could have been out takes from one of the tryouts they have looking for 'talent'.
I think I picked a bottom six last night at the end. And all of them need to go...
I was surprised no one mentioned Alex Chilton.
I can't listen to Didi without thinking that she's trying to sound like Rickie Lee Jones.
Blech.
What was up with Hannah Montana? She's 17. She was trying to act 30. And she is starting to look more like Achy Breaky Heart dad.

Alex Chilton didn't write "The Letter," actually. It was written by Wayne Carson Thompson, who also wrote "Always on My Mind" and "She's Acting Single (I'm Drinking Doubles)." That being said, they should have mentioned Chilton.
I don't know about worst episode. After all, they had more suckage last week. But definitely worst season.
On the other hand,
Vote for The Worst thinks that Miley saved the season by making all of the contestants (except Crystal) sing badly.
wv: sings -- honest!
I know everyone has to play to their base and I agree that Crystal is great at that. But I think she is overdoing it.
I mean the last two songs she sang were by Melissa Etheridge and Tracy Chapman. And then she brought a carpet on stage. But did she really have to sit on it and munch it?
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I don't watch it, but it sounds like it just got interesting. Karaoke can be like that, but it requires alcohol, lots of it.
I've only watched the first half of last night's episode on Tivo so far. But I have agree with SteveR, that Paige gave the worst performance in American Idol history last night. Every note missed.
Also, have to say that I'm having trouble with Big Mike's talent level. I understand that he's a great guy, and new baby, yada yada, but to be honest I don't find the tone of his voice that interesting. You know things are bad when you're longing for Michael Bolton.
Tim sucks. That's why he was cut originally. He lucked his way into one good performance -- Hallelujah. I know Randy keeps saying that it's a tough song to sing, but Jason Castro sang it, and he had a really mediocre voice (though a lot more talent than Tim). I think it's a song that makes you sound better than you are.
Crystal's good, but she really does have a coffee shop tendency sometimes. I'm looking forward to next week.
But did she really have to sit on it and munch it?
hehehehe
I thought the singers were as always rookies doing their best and sometimes failing. The problem with this season is the judges. Let's face it. DioG + Ellen do not equal 1 Paula.
I thought that Paige must have laryngitis. I'm also beginning to think Crystal is still sick. I notice she sits down in some covert way after each one of her numbers.
So basically, the judges stink and the kids are sick. A difficult night.
Adam at Throwingthings on Andrew Garcia:
from Lea DeLaria to Kim Jong-Il to Filipina Lesbian
Nice.
Imagine how terrible this show will be without Simon.
DioG + Ellen do not equal 1 Paula.
Ellen will be good eventually -- she's super smart and funny. She just needs practice. Kara really does need to chill out with the "feel the meaning of the song" crap.
Also, I was watching some old stuff on youtube. I liked Paula, and was upset when she left, but really, in retrospect, she was COMPLETELY incoherent. Basically incapable of speaking a complete sentence in English.
As for the talent, Crystal is the only one I can stomach. She seems to be more that a Karaoke singer although I suspect she has a drug problem or something (not that there's anything wrong with that if you want to be a decent musician).
Actually I think the rumor is that Crystal is a pretty severe diabetic.
She really should lay off the Tootsie Roll.
So to speak.
Actually I think the rumor is that Crystal is a pretty severe diabetic.
I think she said she was a diabetic a few weeks ago when they had to switch nights for the girls so she could recover from a short hospital stay.
Makes sense. I mostly FF through the up close and personal stuff.
What stumped me was why did they pick the songs they did? What is the obsession with picking songs released before they were born? Is there nothing popular in the last 20 years?
(Simon observing that whats-her-face singing "You're no good" was rather ironic was hilarious.)
Siobhan has great talent, originality, and a real potential for a big bucks career in music or on stage.
So it would be a big favor to her to have AI producers sit down and tell her she is "rationed" to just One More Scream the rest of the contest, for as long as she is in it. Then only one scream per show on summer tour.
Right now the screaming is blanking out people's memory of every other good thing she does in performance, her stage presence and charisma..everything.. to pigeonhole her as "Wierd Gal Who Screams a Lot".
Can it, Magnus! Other musicians have a "thing" they do that they own - but they don't gratuitously throw it in everything they do..
Crystal sings her Lilith Fair Rev 2 songs well. But I see zero risk-taking and a future where she does well within a limited demographic of females who were in college in the 90s eating up Crow, Maclachlan, Emmylou, Chapman, and Etheridge, (a line for Trooper York to pounce on) putting out successful but modestly selling albums that sound like the usual "I am an empowered female all wrapped within myself singing about me."
The rest was dreck, except a good case could be made that MIley helped herself to 3 hours of free publicity that showed she was the un-Brittney. And Cyrus gave some good advice to Katie Stevens and Aaron Kelly (wife likes him) - boost to their confidence.
from Lea DeLaria to Kim Jong-Il to Filipina Lesbian
Ha! I thought that was Kim Jong-Il and that this was his demand (to be on AI) in order to scrap the North Korean nuke program!
When does Bob Mugabe come on the show?
I don't get it. These are young people, yet they insist on picking songs that sound more like funeral dirges. Where is the hard driving back beats, the energy songs of good rock? And they all start in too low a key.
Randy Jackson has a tin ear. I am cursed with what is called a perfect ear in music, sort of like perfect pitch, only in my case, I hear the most minute misses and it makes it hard to enjoy alot of pop music. Jackson loves the screechy, slide into the note singers, the very ones that actually hurt my ears, literally, when they can't hit the notes dead on. Yet, the performers who hit their notes just fine, he'll call pitchy.
I would rather listen to a good rousing version of an old song than some of the drivel being produced today, but Simon seems to think that any song recorded before last week comes off old-fashioned or childish bubblegum and, of course, he automatically hates anything even remotely country.
There are great songs from the forties, fifties, and early sixties, before the hard rock era that would showcase the voices and great songs are never out of date, no matter how many decades ago they were first recorded.
The only contestant I've seen over the years who actually pulled off the older songs was Adam Lambert and he did so because he had great delivery and showmanship.
You have to work with what you've got. Even if you don't care for the Lilith fair crap, Crystal is the only performer who is even half decent in this format.
That was awful...
I'm all cougary for Casey.
Like Crystal too.
I'd drive 4 hours to a concert by either one of them, and throw a new clean pair of my granny panties onstage.
Don't know why Crystal was defanged.
A vampire who ripped her fangs out to try and resume a preciously finite mortal life?
