"You cook breakfast. I'll blog it."

It's the 1-year anniversary of this deliciously intriguing blog post (which ultimately got quoted in the NYT).

A breakfast that was celebrated in the New York Times!

Now, a year later, Meade cooking breakfast while I blog is a way of life in the house we call Meadhouse. The bee on the knob of the tea kettle now has one broken wing, but everything else is beautifully whole.

Meade,

How can you tolerate those burners?

AllenS म्हणाले...

Happy breakfast anniversary.

Winter breakfast
Calm surface scratched

Ron म्हणाले...

Man, I could use breakfast now...I've had a bad few days. Is Meade a good cook? Is Ann? I'd blind taste test breakfast between...good blogging!

Meade म्हणाले...

Ha ha ha. Anyway it was past time for those non-stick pans to be retired. Stick a fork in 'em, they're done.

What a beautiful year of all kinds of reflections! Thank you for everything!

Hey, I know -- I'll wax the skis and drive us to Blue Mounds. You blog it.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Okay, SkiMoundSki.

I have nonstick that you can use a fork in and it won't scratch. :-p

Oh Tish. I love it when you speak French.

Isn't the essence of a good marriage that with one broken wing -- like the bee -- we can each still brew a good pot of tea. We think we're non-stick, but there are scratches.

Marriage is hard, which is what makes it good.

After your ski out near Blue Mounds, please take the time for a great (cheap) Italian meal at Sole i Sapori in Mt. Horeb. I don't know if Mama or the parrot are still alive, but Mama used to make alla de tiramisu, and it was phenomenal. Abundant wine, fairly priced, served in tumblers. Fantastic food.

Buon apetito.

It's a good feeling to have wholeness in your personal life.

It makes everything else almost irrelevant.

Ann and Meade- what is the brand and model of the tea kettle? TIA
Here is a cool breakfast dish from the Ann Arbor newspaper's food writer:

Harsh Pencil, in with the first comment, nails it: How can Meade be cooking Althouse breakfast on a 30-year old cooktop? He deserves a new induction top. Amazing technology. Feathers temps better than gas.

Some were put out when Ann wed Meade; most celebrated:
Whether happy or whether teed what were were fated.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

I remodeled the kitchen in 1991. To me it seems like it was just done, because that's the way time feels when you're as old as I am. The cooktop is old, though. I know. But so am I. It still works. So do I, for that matter.

I've found, in my life, that I've done the best cooking in the most limited kitchens.

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

What counts in cooking is fresh top quality ingredients. A high end kitchen is fun, but people coooked amazing things on wood stoves and just open flames.

That, as Old Blue eyes once noted, is life. You sound rapturously happy - still.

And when she calls you, boobala?

PS Thank you for taking up my part in the previous thread. I did mean it in the endearing sense. She just looked so happy and mellow.

Black bee sitting on a thirty year-old cooktop
Take that broken wing and learn to fry

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Mead = honeyed drink. Bee ... honey.

I missed a literary opportunity. But Meade alone will do, when bee wings are few.

Ron म्हणाले...

Can Meade and I go blow up model trains?

Kev म्हणाले...

Happy blogengageversary, you two!

DaveW म्हणाले...

Congrats!

Love your kitchen. Hate that cooktop. Not that mine is all that great but at least it's gas. Kitchen circa 1991, so those are Corian counters I guess? We have Corian and I love it, I wanted real granite but decided not to take that leap...kinda glad we didn't.

Great French doors, hardware and drapes.

NotWhoIUsedtoBe म्हणाले...

Meadehouse? Watch out for grendels!

My wife loves to sit and do email, websurfing, etc while I cook breakfast on weekends. Is it just women named Althouse, or is it a cultural trend?

Titus म्हणाले...

I just hope the Blue Mounds skiing expedition, likely in the state park, has no ties to any government support. If so it is socialast.

Titus म्हणाले...

And that makes you welfare queens.

Jim S. म्हणाले...

Congratulations on your first anniversary of your first breakfast together. I've been completely charmed by the Althouse-Mead romance over the past year.

Jim S. म्हणाले...

Arrgh! Althouse-Meade romance. Sorry.

Lynne म्हणाले...

Like our hostess, my sweetheart and I are celebrating our anniversary this weekend- only for us it's 18 years.
Happy cooking, MeadeHouse! A lot of our "fun time" revolves around working together in the kitchen even now- We still plan a special dinner with candlelight every single Saturday, and look forward to it. It's a very soothing and very sexy way to celebrate being together.
Bon Apetit! In every sense of the word!

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Beautifully whole is wholly beautiful. Thanks for being a great example to the rest of us. It is always fun to hang at Althouse/Meadehouse.

Mark म्हणाले...

I am glad for you, but GET A FRICKIN' INDUCTION COOKTOP.

That is all.

amba म्हणाले...

Happy annibreakfastversary!

You were indeed breaking a long fast, weren't you both!

Ad Maya V'Esreem - may you share a good life until 120. (A traditional Jewish blessing.)
