Will Tommy Thompson challenge Russ Feingold in the Senate race this year?

After Scott Brown's victory in Massachusetts... perhaps!

I sure hope so (even though I don't live there).

Very winnable, he should do it.

I disagree with most of Feingold's politics, but, it seems to me he's one of the very few senators who is consistent about his beliefs and has integrity about them.

I don't know what that's worth, but it's something to note.

RINO who kicked Democratic butt consistently. Not flashy, not slick, doesn't seem that dynamic but gets the job done. A competent, tenacious guy who did a good job for Wisconsin.

Not exactly a fresh face though.

Feingold had his day in the sun. Time for him to go. He is part of the problem. Actually I would be happy if all the incumbents lost.

Term limits are the only salvation we have left.

At least around 2005-2006, Thompson was on the board of VeriChip, with the "chip" in their name referring to an ID implant, kinda like the ones they put into cows, but for the humans. Hey, maybe he was just doing it for the money!

The promotion of Mr. Excitement is probably coming from the same World Class Geniouses who made Feingold look good (at least to those who can figure things out). I wonder how many full-time days of explaining it would take before the tea party types realize how they're helping their opponents and dragging U.S. discourse further into the sewer.

Tommy Thompson I would consider voting for. Certainly he's better than the lousy candidates the Republican Party usually sends up against Feingold. I think Thompson would be a good advocate for the state.

I wonder what Sue Ellen thinks about it. Tommy is 12 years older than Feingold. That might make a difference.

I don't think Thompson as Governor was helpful for Wisconsin's long-term budget mess, by the way. The mess with the budget has been a long time coming, including Thompson's tenure. Now, I'm not sure this could be used against him in a campaign for the Senate, but a good opponent would certainly raise it if he wanted to run for Governor again; maybe that will color his choices for elected office.

And as far as being someone who kicked butt, you have to consider the competition thrown against him. Chvala? Seriously? Was there no other democrat with a pulse that year?

TT didn't seem to be a great government and certainly didn't do well in Bush's Cabinet.

Sheesh: "government" should have been "governor."

hah, I like a good wine. But I like a cheap wine too. I don't see a big difference.

If he was 20 years younger it would be better.

Why don't you run Althouse? You could start the Some of This, Some of That party.

Nothing personal but I wouldn't vote for you. I wouldn't vote for my wife never mind Meade's wife. And I don't live in Wisconsin.

I heard Tommy speak to my national association (AAFP) re: healthcare reform. I wasn't too impressed. The ideas were "ok" but he didn't seem to be a great salesman.

Of course, one shouldn't judge a politician based on one speech. (We know how that can end up.)

I hope he doesn't. Feingold is good to have. I may disagree on all issues with him, but I respect him because he truly believes what he claims. A completely honest Leftie.

I feel much of what contributed to Scott Brown's success was his vitality and positive energy. During the 2008 Republican primary, Tommy Thmpson wasn't impressive. His hair coloring was too obvious and his communication skills were just so-so. I'd much rather see the GOP come up with someone younger and more energetic.

Thompson is reportedly looking into buying a truck.

Feingold is just a run of the mill DNC hack who desperately wants to hold onto his "mavricky" image. I especially enjoy the videos of him addressing all his irate constituents. Telling them how much he hates the health care bill he just voted for.

Tommy would stomp him. It's time for Wisconsin to retire their empty suit senators.
