A nighttime walk down 6th Street in Austin.

Here's what we saw from the sidewalk as we walked down 6th Street after the movie:

What movie? Why, it was "Girlie Night" at the Alamo Drafthouse, and — it was my birthday — we saw the 1997 cult classic "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion." For added birthday festivity, we sat in one of the 2 private balconies, in leather recliners, and ate chili and drank Guinness.

You got tattooed?

Oh, no, not "Remember the Alamo"!!!!!

I won't even ask where.

Sounds like you had fun :)

A movie with chili and Guinness?

Attagirl!

Oh, I need to move to Texas!

I never get tired of making fun of Pretty Woman.

Yankees generally don't realize how civilized Texas is. For starters: Women have the right to go topless in public anywhere. We can drink in public anywhere unless posted to the contrary (i.e. Sixth Street). Three of our cities are in the Top Ten in population--something no other state can claim. Only California has two: LA and San Jose.

And Austin is around number 14 in population. Those who think Texas is a red-neck, cowboy backwater have a lot to learn.

That said, anywhere in Texas outside of Houston and Austin you will be up to your eyeballs in Baptist and Methodist bullshit. In Austin, you will be up to your eyeballs in Socialist bullshit. And Houston is insufferable in the summer.

You can get the girl out of Austin, but you can't get Austin out of the girl.

I'm sure there's a creme or suppository that could clear that up in a week or two.

The ribeye chili is very good. The puerco guisada is my go to. Need to get to the Alamo this weekend to see "Up in the Air". I keep hearing fantastic things about it.

I love Romy and Michelle. "I invented post it notes." The dance scene? A Milwaukee (Scoliosis) brace? Awesome movie.

You know, Althouse, I think you and Meade would be a fun duo to smoke weed with...

I mean... y'er like old and all, but still you seem like pretty cool and creative people.

That Romy and Michelle is like the super-duper-toker movie too...

Romy and Michele missed Teddy Pendergrass by only about a decade.. but in our harts Teddy Pendergrass will be missed for a long long time.

Come Go With Me - Teddy Pendergrass

RIP Teddy Pendergrass.

The other night Palladian asked Althouse if someone from David Lynch's Blue Velvet cast had played this song to her there in Austin. just in case nobody did why dont we paly it now..

I never been to Austin but something tells me this is the sort of band you might find there on any given night.

Foals - Olympic Airways

I was talking with titus about the latest Martha Cockup gaffe there in Mass and I was telling him that I used to live in Lynn.. (city of sin)

Titus told me bout a tryst he had there one night and it went something like this...

Vete - Nino Bravo.

Its a mystery if Romy and Michele dug Ol' Dirty Bastard b4 this tune.. we may never know for sure.

Fantasy - Mariah Carey feat. Ol' Dirty Bastard

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

I have not seen the movie but I'm positive Romy and Michele just loved Duran Duran.

Notorious - Duran Duran

Pastafarian म्हणाले...

And with that, Lem fell face-first into his keyboard, scattering empty Dos Equis bottles across the room.

For Lem doesn't always drink beer; but when he does, he prefers Dos Equis.

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

I saw Duran Duran's first US gig, in West Caldwell, NJ. Go figure.

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

And Pastafarian, very funny.

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

Off topic, I mean discussing down town Austin at night, Romy and Michelle, and Duran Duran?-- but Glenn Reynolds had this post today that I find disturbing.

You remember in WWII when Japanese solider and civilians threw themselves off cliffs in Saipan and Okanawa? Well the Japanese and the US are doing that now. Bonzai!

We all know that Japan has been racking up debt for Two Lost Decades, yet the sky has refused to fall. Borrowing costs have slithered down to 1.36pc on 10-year JGBs and under 1pc on shorter debt, though they are not as low as they were .. nota bene. This seeming defiance of gravity has emboldened the Krugmanites and Keynesian prime-pumpers to call for a repeat in the US, UK, and Europe. There lies a great danger.

Jimbino, Ill take the Houston summers over Dallas'
anytime. All of our friends who have moved to Austin are insufferable. They think they are so cool. And they are, but they are a little too vocal about it.

Hoosier Daddy म्हणाले...

Did you retire? Cause I don't think I have this much vacation time after 15 years with the same gig.
