"I think it would be good," Dylan said, "if you are looking for directions and hear my voice saying something like 'left at the next street, no a right – y'know what? Just go straight.'"...Now, I would assume that Dylan was joking. It was on his radio show, where he's always floating from fact to fiction. But the truth is, I'd love to have Bob Dylan telling me where to go.
"I probably shouldn't do it... because whichever way I go I always end up at one place, Lonely Avenue."

What famous voice would you like as the voice of your GPS? Bob Dylan?
The Guardian says that 2 car makers are talking to Bob Dylan about making him their GPS voice:

If you're driving it's probably better to have a voice with an accent that catches your attention.
So sure... Bob Dylan in England.
And some Brit on GPS's in the US.
Can he do weather reports, too? (Or don't you need a weatherman to tell which way the wind blows?)

You'd like to have Bob Dylan tell you where to go, huh?
Not if he said "as far away as you can from the crazy conservatives who worship you"!
Okay, so you love or worship Bob Dylan. We get it. :D
Frankly I'd love to just have Hawkings speak n' spell voice be my GPS voice.
[Speak n' spell voice] Turn left, no left, you stupid moron.
ugh! I'd prefer Gilbert Gottfried to Bob Dylan as my GPS voice...
A James Earl Jones GPS voice would be wonderful.
A GPS that mumbles incoherently? No thanks.
My Garmin has a female brit that is easy to understand and catches the ear. Now if she would just start telling me how stupid I was for missing the turn for the third time - that would be fun.
Has...to...be...William...Shatner!

I would like Mae West to be my GPS voice, but she's dead.
The distress of her death preventing her from becoming my GPS voice has caused me to cook some balcony vegetables for dinner.
Mr. T says, "I pity the fool who doesn't make that next right turn."
I've been wondering for some time now why celebs aren't recording voices for these things and then getting a percentage of the profits.
He could do Mississippi directions to the tune of Oxford Town. But Bob would have to take voice lessons to please todays perfectionists. He could do lessons with the lady who does the "Door is Closing--Move to the Center of the Car" voice at ATL.
Elvis knew how to get there. You'd be lost ten times over trying to figure out Dylan's directions.
Tim Gunn would be nice, with all his catchphrases.
If Scarlett Johannson were my GPS voice, I'd be driving a van and trying to park in midtown Manhattan a lot more often than I do!
I have an idea for the GPS people: Diamanda Galas!
No sleepin' at the wheel there!
I think Tommy Chong would be a good choice. So would Stephen Wright.
Either Lumbergh or Milton from Office Space.
Of course, Samuel L. Jackson saying "Take a Mother-F**king right at the Mother-F**king light" would be priceless.
Dylan would be a bad voice for a GPS. You'd have no direction home.
Iris Lettieri would be interesting.

As Darth Vader? Because that would be the shit.
[Darth Vader GPS Voice] You must now make a left turn at 3rd avenue.
{you missed your left turn}
[Darth Vader GPS Voice] I find your lack of a left turn disturbing.
{you finally get back on the right course and make your left turn}
[Darth Vader GPS Voice] Your left turn now is complete.
I would like Mae West to be my GPS voice, but she's dead.
Hmm. You know, someone could do a whole library of voices of dead celebrities from existing recordings.
Igno - you nailed it. Samuel L. for sure.
Steering, motherf*cker, can you do it?
I would buy that system.
Why should Dylan be kidding? What a gig. I'll bet he likes money just like the rest of us. Plus it's a total hoot. Dylan must like total hoots.
Johnny Cash would be good too if he were still around.
Stephen Fry would be a good British voice for a GPS.
there already is a KITT GPS spoken by William Daniels, the voice of KITT from the original Knight rider.
"As Darth Vader? Because that would be the shit."
Exactly. Wouldn't that be great?
Now imagine if there were also a Yoda GPS:
"Left turn you must take."
Now imagine if there were also a Yoda GPS:
Brake me a fucking give!
Helen Mirren. Or Groucho Marx.
My candidate for best GPS voice? The voice of the HAL 9000 computer from “2001: A Space Odyssey.” “I’m sorry, Dave, but you missed that left turn…”
From the miniseries--
Conversations With My GPS
by
AllenS
Me: "Am I getting close?"
Christie Brinkley: "More to the left, oooo, oooo, farther, farther, now stop, right there!
Fin
A classy female British voice with a hint of the naughty. Kate Winslet or Cate Blanchett would do.
I'm a Dylan fan, but I think I'd quickly tire of hearing him saying the same stock phrases the same way. Might be interesting if there were hundreds of phrases that came up randomly.
The voice of the HAL 9000 computer from “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
"You missed that left turn because of human error."
You do know that John Cleese already is the voice of (at least some) TomTom GPSes, right?
A strict female English voice.
"You didn't take the turn I told you. You've been a very naughty girl."
I'd obey out of fear as a conditioned response. I had a strict English mum. The way my English cousins speak to their children makes me cringe.
It is totally understandable why many Englishmen are kinky and like discipline.
If I had a GPS to tell me where to turn, what would my wife do in the car?
That said, I'd want Ozzy Osbourne. Mmrmmmmff mbblmrremmm. MMrjemmmMMMM! Translation: you're driving on the wrong side of the bloody road!
Bob Dylan? Mumbles??
ger luh [inaudible] [inaudible] [garbled] ....
