I love anyone who loves me.

Apparently toad stools aren't just for toads anymore?

Buford Gooch म्हणाले...

I don't think I could stand to be around someone like me, let alone love that person.

WV: thadome--the place Mel Gibson kicked butt.

Jason (the commenter) म्हणाले...

If you love someone you love whatever similarities or differences are offered, plus you invent some and love those, too.

Peter Hoh म्हणाले...

For me, it's some happy combination of similarities and differences.

pander-modium म्हणाले...

You love someone because they are similar enough to you to feel familiar, but different enough to pique your curiosity :).

People like yourself are no fun. The excitement comes in sharing the other's views which add more to the mix than another copy of yourself. Common culture and history in a similar area are bonds enough to keep communications going easy. Pillow talk is the highlight of a day apart when the two can share thoughts from that day's encounters. The protecting man's strength is a Godsend to the beautifully sensitive woman, who in turn adds the exquisite mind and emotions God gave women to complete their man's missing pieces.

bagoh20 म्हणाले...

Ok, I thought about it... I got nothin'.

Can I have an easier question please?

blake म्हणाले...

Neither.

A shared reality on the nature of what love entails is necessary.

If you have that agreement, you can be as much alike or as much different as you like. Life isn't static (by definition), so wherever you start, you may end up more alike or less alike by the time you're done.

So I ate that mushroom, fly and all GULP just like that without even chewing. I could feel the fly buzzing all the way down. Mmmmm, fly. Then I ☽ met a mysterious ☍ man on ♌ the road, ☻ dressed in 〄 black and ☠ walking a ☢☡♽ white dog. ⚡ He seemed truly etherial, but I know what I saw. No 〒 really, ✴ I'm ✣ seramous 〠check ❦ out ☥ the picture.✺

Someone call 911 for Chip, that mushroom was a bad one.

MamaM म्हणाले...

The leg action cracks me up...he walks like a 2 legged fly.

It was only after I moved here that I found out Pennsylvania was the mushroom capital of the US. You can buy all kinds of bizarre mushrooms in the stores here, like this one.

Ever seen one? You can buy them in all the stores here pretty much all year round.

Do you love someone because they're like you or because they are different?

Thats a very difficult question to answer with any kind of appreciable certitude to remain trustworthy.

So therefore the answer is Yes and No, not necessarily in that order.

wv amedsed = a messaged that has been massaged?

अनामित म्हणाले...

Do you love someone because they're like you or because they are different?

Yes.

Life in the Fifties म्हणाले...

You love someone who started out like you and ended up different, or you love someone who started out different and ended up like you.

Either way works!

Well, then, rightwingprof, you won't want to miss the Mushroom Festival in Kennett Square, coming up in a couple of weeks. You could go mushroom-bobbing, and maybe even meet Miss Mushroom, if they still do that.

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

Just as long as this is not a play on the Giving 'Shroom, because the tree version really bummed me out.

So I was in NY City two years ago for a week and saw all the cool stuff like The Met, The Art Museum, Broadway show, etc.

Anyway, I'm visiting my daughter in RI and we are going back tomorrow for a one day train trip.

I'm just looking for any ideas on 2nd tier lesser known but really interesting places we could visit.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I know the Althouse commenters are the best around.

I'm with Paul. Yes.

I missed out on all the fun yesterday in the "Andrew step up your game" thread. Got linked and talked about, but still no tag. Baby steps.

Speaking of shrooms, I was at a dirty hippie festival at Orton Park all weekend, mingling with upper crust Marquette neighborhood pseudo boomer hippies, with only the occasional patchouli and pot smoke wafting to wake the senses. Trombone Shorty absolutely killed it last night. What a talent.

Joseph म्हणाले...

I wouldn't say I like someone because they are different per se, but I tend to like people who are complimentary, as opposed to the same, as me.

"... tell me: Do you love someone because they're like you or because they are different?"

I wouldn't know about all that. The mushroom though looks like it could be a member of the boletus family. You have got to get to them quick though, flies lay eggs in them.

dbp: Given what that mushroom visually reminded me of the instant I first saw it (but politely refrained from sharing), your added imagery is rather too much to bear.

vf SHOULD be: ickedout

; )

You fall in love with the person who is most available at the time you are most vulnerble.

Somebody else said that, I'm just reporting.

Simon Kenton म्हणाले...

I don't know about Miss Mushroom, but a friend of mine married Miss Wheatland Beet. Pretty herself to this day, she is the mother of a gorgeous daughter. Since he isn't one, by the terms of the question I suppose he must be the opposite of a Wheatland Beet.

Beta Conservative...You might in take the Battery end sights , such as the Village where houses from 1700s are still in use, and go on to St Pauls Church next to Ground Zero and Wall Street. The Ellis Island tour boat is great. Then take the subway under the river to Brooklyn Heights for a great view. Trooper's shop is around there. You can walk back across Brooklyn Bridge if there is time. Up in the Central Park area it is a joy to just walk around , and the Tavern on the Green is reccomended.

MamaM म्हणाले...

Absolute trust is a nice concept, but in my experience it is a dangerous way to engage in relationship.

Absolute trust resulted in some seriously unhealthy behavior and relational choices in my life. Learning how to use "discerning trust" was a life saver.

"I will trust you to the degree that you are trustworthy," is the message conveyed by discerning trust.

It is a respectful approach for both parties, one that leaves each "open to experience increased levels of risk to the degree the other is trustworthy."

amba म्हणाले...

I don't think any two people are much alike. If you fall in love with someone because you think they're like you, you'll find out they're not. Yet, you can be very different and still have important things in common.

I imagine one of the shocks of being with someone of a similar background and values is waking up to how completely differently they may see the world. One of the fun things about being with someone from a whole different world is finding the things that bridge the gap.

Defies analysis, largely unconscious, the brain wants to perceive patterns, the question is misleading.

Marry the one you can't live without. Mama's sage advice. So far I'm doing just fine flying solo.

"I was at a dirty hippie festival at Orton Park all weekend..."

Hey, we considered going to that. But we're clean hippies.
