Sweeeeeeeet!!!!

It's Sunday - time to say nice things about the commenters we have often sparred with -

Here's a hearty "Hope you enjoy the day!" to Garage, Invisible Man, fls, jeremy and dtl.

Chase म्हणाले...

Oh, and you too, Zachary Paul Sire!

Which peaks are those? They look like familiar fourteeners.

NotWhoIUsedtoBe म्हणाले...

I think it's still Rocky Mountain National Park. I read that on the sign in yesterday's picture.

Sheesh, where are your priorities!

The blog must be fed or else it gets surly.

AmPowerBlog म्हणाले...

Ah, a refreshing break from the the political grind!

Have a nice day, Ann.

Nothing like being in "god's country", where atheists are not allowed!

Hummingbirds, please.

Chip Ahoy म्हणाले...

Would you care to see my latest pop-up card? Yes? You would? It's not as good as a hummingbird, but it is a bird, Egyptified. It's for my brother's birthday next week and it relates to nothing at all.

I thought Wright was going to perform the ceremony on bloggingheads.

My sister just sent me this link. Appropriate, considering the upcoming nuptials...

That's really creative, Chip. I would be thrilled to get such a card, and I really appreciate having directions to make it.

Sadly, I'm always rushing out to buy cards the night before they're needed, and sometimes not even that soon.

Hallmark LOVES people like me.

Deborah M. म्हणाले...

Dear Ann & Meade, I hope its Blue Skies From Now On for both of you.

Another day without a hitch?

I wonder if tourists notice all the dead trees or what the tourists and news will say if and when they start burning.

Hunter McDaniel म्हणाले...

Your timing is excellent. It was cloudy and cool all week until you got here. It's been that way most of the summer, in fact.

Coincidence?

Thar's gold in them thar hills. And lead too. Heavy metals for a heavy wedding for the duo. Don't miss Aspen or Vail and come back home in the fall before you get snowed in. We will keep the lights on for you in the flat lands.

You must be referring to the Climax Mining Co.

Birds flying high
You know how I feel
Sun in the sky
You know how I feel
Reeds driftin' on by
You know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

I see a wedding at sunset.

Best wishes and God Bless You Althouse and Meade!

Ted Quillin was famous for the tag "Blue Skies and Green Lights," on KRLA in the 60s.

Imus did a riff on him in 2000, which I was able to mail to old TQ in NV.

...the return of the August short-stories !!!

Maxine has written another winner, if I do say so.

Tari म्हणाले...

Ann and Meade,

My God grant you both many years! Congratulations!

Oh sure, I go on a road trip to see mountains and now everyone has to go on a road trip to see mountains.

LonewackoDotCom म्हणाले...

Post "do it!" if you want to see Althouse do this. (There are plenty of guide co.s in Estes Park and the general area. While that's a long climb it's not ever 100% vertical IIRC.)

Maxine Weiss म्हणाले...

Oh, she's gonna Skype her own wedding ?

That's novel.

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

You must be referring to the Climax Mining Co.

Except that Climax is probably three hours from that view.

I mentioned in my post to the previous thread that 2 1/2 weeks ago, we had started in Dillon, CO, and driven over Trail Ridge to Estes Park. Dillon is in Summit County, and Climax is on the border between Summit and Lake counties, so it is less than a half an hour away.

The good, and probably more bad, of Climax is that the miners there removed the top of a mountain to mine the molybdenum (and the associated other minerals). The mine was shut down for a couple decades, but last I knew, they had opened it up again.

Climax was at the top of Fremont pass (and, yes, the Continental Divide goes through there, but backwards from what you would expect, since you drive SW over it to Leadville, going from the Western Slope in Summit County, back to the Eastern Slope in Lake Country).

I have many fond memories of Fremont pass too. One was screaming down it on the back of a motorcycle almost 40 years ago. Another was losing electricity in my car about 10 years ago, and coasting from almost the top all the way down to Copper Mountain and I-70.

Cardboard FLOTUS म्हणाले...

All of the Colorado State Parks are offering free entrance through tomorrow to mark the anniversary of our statehood. Nothing like tying the knot at the Divide on the anniversary.
