Dear lady you must welcome your robot overlords.

They have no emotions.

It will take longer for them to learn to despise you.

An optimistic Radio Japan report had robot nurses soon to be working in old peoples' homes and nuclear power stations. They'd flip old people over at night and take their temperatures, and fetch coffee in nuclear power stations.

The old peoples' plan has now been abandoned in favor of nurses from the Philippines, and the nuclear power station operators will get their own coffee.

Giant robots are not very interesting. Now this and this are interesting.

If you don't know a Gundam when you see one, you must really be out of touch. I mean seriously, Gundam have been around since the 70's.

Pointless Doberman on a walk video, with a heel at the end, this evening.

She took up a trot that was going to put her too far ahead at about 1:15, hence the heel call.

Despite my general nerdiness I must admit that the giant robot genre (mecha) has never held much interest for me.

Although I did watch Transformers as a child; however, I have never seen any of the movies (animated or otherwise).

Oh, and I think the "In Japan" was just assumed.

Not much action.

It appeared the robot's tits were smoldering.

I used to watch the Japanese Ultraman series as a child in the 1960s. Here's one of the lamest monster fight sequences I've ever seen; it starts @4:20 culminating in a "monster tickle" @5:50.

Methadras म्हणाले...

I still favor Giant Robot.

EDH, you do realise that Ultraman was a children's show designed to be watched by the whole family...and that many episodes were even more tongue-in-cheek than its contemporary, Batman. Ultraman was never mean, and often tricked his monster opponents in ways that children would easily understand (like tickling them). It's MEANT to be a funny fight. Just one of the charms of the show when seen today.

glam1931,

I do, as I was one of those children.

Yet, if ever either of my parents happened to watch the show, while I was transfixed, I'm sure it was by pure indulgence that we did.

I'd hardly typify that Ultraman experience as being "watched by the whole family."

Unless, hey, wait a minute... my mom was born in 1931!

glam1931, is that you mom?

So, you really liked Ultraman? You should have said something!

Sob, so many years wasted.

Gundam on Althouse? This is odd.

Ann, you should look into Ghost in the Shell. It will blow your mind. The main character does not wear pants.

Absolutely. When Americans make a giant robot it looks like a tyrannosaurus, breaths fire, and eats cars.

Now we need a Zaku to go with it.

As cool as it is that they built a 1/1 scale Gundam, it's not as impressive as the giant rhinoceros beetle robot another Japanese guy built in his garage.

They even took it to a big empty lot and walked it around!
