"The live blog of the SS hearings does not excuse you from providing something frothy and frivolous for your groundlings."

Says LarsPorsena.

Frivolous groundlings, froth and frolic here. I will join you when I can, but please cavort without me.

Or try to tempt me out of my serious place (in the previous post) and into your silly playground.

good, I was hoping for an open thread.

I realized I really had nothing to complain about when I realized what it must be like to be the parent of this fine young man:

As a recipient of the $250 Social Security stimulus, I'm hear to tell all of you liberals who think that Obama's handling of the economy is great, that if I don't receive at least $5000 more stimulus, I will froth, and froth, and froth. I'm not kidding.

On a day like today, one wonders where Mark Sanford and John Edwards are watching this Sonia Fest. I wish them both many empathetic days free from a Stare Decisis from their wives. I hope that Sonia's Right to Privacy answers warmed their little hearts.

Here's a bleg related to this post:

How do you get "comment permalinks" to work? Like the permalink to LarsPorsena's comment.

I swear, everytime I try copying one, the link just drops me at the headline of the post, not at the specific comment that I try to link.

Is there a special trick to make them work?

The blogger help page has no instructions.

Insert a "c" after the "#".

Things you won't see Ann "the moderate" Althouse peep on for a second:

Documents reveal that the Wall St Journal, Fox News, and Washington Times (at least) contacted Sanford staffers and said they would help them out with biased coverage when Sanford went hiking.

From a WSJ opinin editor: "Someone at WSJ should be fired for today's story. Ridiculous."

From Faux News:
"Having known the Governor for years and even worked with him when he would host radio shows for me -- I find this story and the media frenzy surrounding it to be absolutely ridiculous! Please give him my best."

From the Washington Times:
"If you all want to speak on this publicly, you're welcome to Washington Times Radio. You know that you will be on friendly ground here!"

This story of media corruption was broken by The State newspaper of South Carolina. More here.

It's a seamy look at media whores at work. And there's more to come!

Someone stole our credit card number and bought a subscription to a website called Mr. Skin. When we saw the charge, we called the credit card company.

I was the one on the phone.

The polite operator's obvious discomfort was charming and ended when I realized the cause and said, "Oh, my husband is here too. No, he didn't order it."

Ha ha ha.

Ended up being easier to email Mr. Skin. (Have to fill out a form for the credit card company.) The refunded the charge immediately.

Still have to get a new credit card number now. I hate that.

Anyone know much about installation of residential solar panels? Book suggestions?

Any doubt that the latest CIA-Bush administration withheld counterterrorism program info is to divert the spotlight away from Pelosi, etal, lying about what they knew/were told by the CIA about the torture issue?

Christy म्हणाले...

Bearbee, I'm totally willing to believe there were ops not shared with Pelosi and that gang of NYT sources. And I'm okay with it if lives were at stake. If I look deep down in to the bottom of my heart, I truly believe Pelosi wouldn't hesitate to leak identifying info on our assets in Al Qaeda.

Christy... Pelossi would never dare be a traitor, unless there was no chance of being caught and there was good money already paid to her cut-out man.

If declaring that the Speaker is a likely traitor is christy's idea of frothy and frivolous, I'd hate to see what she considers to be serious and somber.

Hi Professor. I saw waaaay down the threads you bought a bike. Congrats! Now you need to really kick it into gear and get ready for the Horribly Hilly Hundred.

I did it two years ago and only puked twice. I'm just not built for hills.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

I've had my credit card number stolen twice (two different numbers) in the last 3 months, so apparently some major retailer is not as secure as he is supposed to be.

The card company is nice about it at least.

Look into virtual card numbers; they're free and only one merchant can use each. Log in, get number, paste into merchant's form. The bad guy then can't use it, or if he does you know which merchant has the problem, if the bad guy uses it before the merchant does.

bearbee म्हणाले...

re: virtual card numbers, do you continue to have a permanent number assigned through your credit card company? If not, how does the billing appear if there is no permanent number?

I checked Amazon which does seem to have virtual card numbers.

William म्हणाले...

I don't think it is fair to criticize Obama's decision to restrict our forces to the use rubber bullets as being unrealistic. Mankind has been using metal bullets for centuries and what has it gotten us but more wars and more deaths. It's time someone turned down the volume and played a more peaceable tune. The rubber bullets sting plenty, and it is even possible for a combatant to lose an eye or break a rib. To claim that the use of rubber bullets is "going easy" on AQ is preposterous. Until such time as the styrofoam bullet is perfected, Obama will continue to use rubber bullets and as many as are needed to dissuade AQ. What rubber bullets do not create are martyrs and further cause for more martyrdom. Can't we all just take a deep breath and see how Obama's new vision of a kinder, gentler war plays out......And as for charging members of our armed forces with murder for previous actions, well that is gross exaggeration. There will, to be sure, be Truth & Reconciliation Hearings before the Senate. The point of these hearings will not be to criminally charge any member of the service. The point rather will be to examine why heavily armed young men were sent into stressful situations where surely their superiors could predict that enemy combatants would be murdered. It is important that these officers acknowledge their culpability and seek the pardon of the world if we are ever to move forward and gain the trust of the Arab street. Thank God, we have a leader who is not afraid to take a few risks for peace.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

You have your ordinary card; your (online) account with the credit card company lets you generate another number whenever you want that's linked to it, and that is what you give the merchant. Only one merchant can use it, so it's no use to steal (after he's used it), and even then you're no more liable for a fraudulent charge than you are on your regular card.

You can put dollar limits and a time limit on it (otherwise it's one-time use) as well.

Frothy and frivolous?

I got an e-mail "update" in my own name posted on Instapundit... I think it was Sunday. My husband and I laughed over my 15 seconds of fame. :-)

And I applied for a job today, which truly sucks when you've been a stay-at-home mom... "Sure I haven't had a job in 10 years except these two short term things, but I'd be a GREAT employee, honest!"

So wish me luck.

Is there ever any bad weather in Ohio? It's always so beautiful in your photos.

Credit cards: our number was stolen at a restaurant by someone when we used it to pay for a meal. They charged $1,000 in computer games. Our bank caught it before we did, all our money was refunded.

A few weeks ago, my blog was visited by someone at the CIA. I do not know anyone at the CIA. Should I be worried?

The dog won't go out in the rain, so there's nothing to take pictures of then.

Dislike of rain is in the breed standard for Dobermans.

Actually she'll ignore the rain if you make her walk in it for a quarter mile or so; but the camera doesn't care for water in any case.

Good luck, Synova! I only spent six years off the market, and I feel your pain. For me, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Almost a self selecting bias going on there. I hope you find the same fortune in your search.

I passed through a town called Clam Gulch today. That's an odd name for a town. Gulch suggests the old west, hot, dusty, dry, dangerous terrain. Clam suggests wet, ocean shore, seaweed, salt air, rain. Clam Gulchis just a weird name, or perhaps some pioneer had a sense of humor.

I also passed through a town called Beaver Falls. The town next to it should have been named Beaver Gets Right Back Up. That would have been good for tourism.
