Roam if you want to. Roam around the world. Roam if you want to without wings, without wheels. Roam if you want to. Roam around the world. Roam if you want to without anything but the love we feel.
Ha ha ha. I was visualizing the lower clouds moving across the frame with Nessie or a submarine periscope popping up when I read that.
I feel so stupid now by being one of the "some" who "might have misunderstood" Sotomayor's repeated "wise Latina" and "we'll bring change when there are enough of us" comments that were lifted "out of context." That must be what it means to be wise. I'm glad she calmly explained it to us.
I'm imagining a photoshop similar to the "dog in the forest" one, with a duck or goose crossing the image instead, and popping up at the last second and yelling AFLAC!
Is someone riding on the clouds to help us this morning? The fierce storms arising from both sides of Judge Sotomayor since yesterday suggest that an intervention maybe needed. Could it be that she is a stealth pro-lifer, and that is stirring up such intense personal opposition?
I notice that the restless Republicans now to want to replay classic confirmation battles out of the past. They need a fight. Sonia is a wuss and will not fight them. Is she being wise again,or is she truly too complete a person to become a street fighter in today's political gang wars? The rumble is on again.
Our filters must have widely varying presets. Last night on Red Eye, Bill Schulz was ragging about Lindsey Graham centering on his unbearable southern accent. I thought Graham was rather well-behaved for a senator and I have no problem with regional accent. The senator that got on my nerves was Chuck Schumer who expostulated and perorated ad nauseam, who apparently didn't bother Schulz. One of my particular peeves, and it does draw out my worst reaction, is a series of declarative statements presented as interrogative. It makes me want to answer them all ironically and unfavorably with more questions to emphasize the tactic.
I can just feel the weather around those gorgeous clouds. Hot and sticky.
The big TV moments of yesterday -- the hearings, the All-Star game -- I could only read about.
My liberal friends thought Jeff Sessions was an "imbecile" and an "ass." Is that true? My conservative friends didn't have anything in particular to say about it. So I assume it was a good day for Sotomayor and a bad day for the GOP? If the GOP's lucky, the embarrassment of opposing this nominee will be over quickly.
Is it really true that Sotomayor had a moment like in "Annie Hall," where Woody Allen was able to pull out Marshall McCluhan to disprove the natterings of a guy on a movie line who claimed to be a McCluhan scholar? Someone Sessions quoted as the essence of fairness popped up behind Sotomayor to say, "yes, and I completely support Sotomayor?"
John...Sessions was the point man to oppose any nominee sent up by the Obama boys. He did ok for an Alabaman. The only shocking part of the Sessions session was his lack of conversational skills compared to Sotomayor's, while striving to appear as a representative from the superior thinkers wing of the Alabama Aristocracy. He was lame to say the least.
One hears about the inadequate US healthcare system. Yesterday I heard that in Great Britain the healthcare system is 'free' (nothing is free) except for the elderly.
Surprising GB currently seems to have some sort of a means test in place:
Under the current system, some people have to pay tens of thousands of pounds, or sell their house, to pay for care in old age, since those with homes or savings worth more than 23,500 pounds must pay for their own care.
Bearbee...the health care is free but not the eldercare, which is paying room and board and keepers to feed, bathe and comfort the feeble old folks who have no young family members willing to spend the time and money on them. The social covenant between breeders and their descendants is non-existant or broken in many places, much like Child Support or welfare payment either by renegade Fathers or the State. The Catholic Church Traditions are very valuable here, when available. The State usually liens the inheritance coming from the old folks to the renegade heirs, less some small exemption.
Bearbee... I wasn't clear. The eldercare is Free, but must be paid back until the available assets are exhausted, less a small exemption amount. When there are no more available assets than it becomes truly Free. In the USA most states will also seek reimbursement for eldercare costs from recipients of "Gifts" made to distribute the assets, if made more than 30 months before the State's Free Money is tapped. This whole subject is probably arousing angst in the Boomers who are suddenly realizing that there may be another side to the government funded Death industries run as a solution to inconvenient foetuses, which now seems to be an ethical dilemma to them, as they become closer to being an inconvenience themseles.
FYI: I use Althouse's commenters as an example of Darwinism here. Bear in mind that I'm not saying anyone has any responsibility to do anything, only that some people seem unwilling to help themselves.

I'm not discussing "we", I'm discussing those supposed BHO opponents who can't help themselves. And, my "pet idea" is actually very basic: pushing back against the other side. It's a fallacy (not to mention stupid) to not push back against the other side just because it's something I want to do. But, feel free to continue the Darwinism.

The lovely Ms. Althouse mentioned Regina Spektor's latest album here a little while back.
I finally picked it up from Amazon yesterday, and I have to say I think it is the best yet. It works well as an album, not just as individual songs. Plus, it has "Folding Chair", which is a cute little tune. :)

I was visualizing a sailboat moving across the lake, then squashed by a giant hand, like in the opening sequence for Monty Python's Flying Circus.
Or, you could put Barack, Rahm, Nancy and Harry in a boat that is slowly sinking.

Mystery of the dull grey lake, solved.
When cumulus and cirrus clouds mix
It usually means a high pressure fix.
The day ahead will be fair and fairer
When fluff and wisp the sky do sharer.
What, no Loch Ness monster?
The lost city of Atlantis is under a dull grey lake?
"... fly free... go where you like... I know I will...."
Which will you go for?
Which will you love?
Which will you choose from?

chip, to me the lake is now crying out for a tiki hut.

Way to troll for hits, linking to a large picture of a Bikini Bottom like that!

If she took the picture yesterday, the weather was cool and delightful. Hot and sticky is a rare day this summer in Madison Wisconsin. Thank goodness!

Thanks for the clarification.
So an eighty year old will get a 'free' hip op and rehab but no aged home-care?
Typical scenario to other countries with socialized healthcare?
This cloud pic yesterday evening to capture whatever airplane was making all the racket, coincidentally.
The guy was running the prop tips supersonic for some reason, I guess trying to climb steeply, and not realizing it.

I suggest renaming himself to become more marketable. Perhaps, "Silent Majority"?
..with an emphasis on silent.

That's what you get when you have a mandate to leave all existing systems in place.
Want to start all over, with a single payer system?

I don't think a single payer system means what you think it means.
