Nice going profe!

My hat is off to you Meade!

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

The Red Sox just beat the Marlins and the Yanks just lost to the Nationals.

I couldn't ask the baseball gods for a better night.

Like Tim Mcarver says..

Oh Baby!

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

To think I was almost going to bed w/o checking in.

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

The Sox had their 500 consecutive sell out.

What recession?

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

Those were good seats btw. after home plate that's where all the action is.

I hope you post more details what you ate and maybe more pics? did you catch a foul ball?

Anyway, I hope you guys had a good time.

Beautiful!

I believe the Reds playing the Braves again tonight. Both teams are at about 500. Our hardluck Braves have fallen from a once mighty club to a team of unknowns and rookies. We need Arthur Blank to buy them bad. Have a hotdog and a beer for me.

Meade म्हणाले...

Thanks guys. We had a ball. Sat right behind the first base end of the dugout. Four runs on four hits won the game for the home team when visiting Atlanta's impressive pitcher, Vazquez gave up a 3 run homer off the bat of Red's pitcher, Owings.

Beer. Peanuts. No foul balls but a couple of tosses from 1st base coach, Billy Hatcher between innings (both of which we gave to kids, of course. A caught foul ball, not that we'd've kept.)

Meade म्हणाले...

meant to say now that we would have kept... a foul ball I mean.

TitusWantsYouToFight म्हणाले...

Get your pussy and hog to Fenway and then we will talk baseball.

Afterwards you can pick me up in The Fens and we can go out for drinkey winkey's.

Cincinnatti sorry, that doesn't make it. Is that in Ohio, Indiana or someplace like that?

iaintbob म्हणाले...

was at game tonight - was in the Cincinnati Bell rooms, which is the big black wall in Centerfield - that place was nice!! they feed you and water you pretty good as well - best part was the huge chocolate cookies

So Lem ... Boston because ....?

I don't recommend giving your foul balls to children.

That's the shadow of the earth on the clouds.

I was at a Mariner's Game last year and they would not throw balls to the crowd. Cheapskates.

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

So Lem ... Boston because ....?

We first lived there when we immigrated to the states.

I saw Yaz play.

JAL म्हणाले...

Heh. Cool.

One of our Yaz stories: We were driving in Boston in the late 60s when the Sox were in the World Series. Yaz was at bat and there was a chance it would make a difference. There is (was?) a tunnel on the main drag through downtown -- and traffic was *stopped* outside the tunnel because Yaz was at bat. No one wanted to be in the tunnel when he got his hit.

Of course, now that the Sox have broken the curse, all you melancholic Red Sox fans (it is a disease) have lost part of your identity.

Nice picture, Prof. (Great clouds make things come alive.)

Wince म्हणाले...

Titus,

I thought of you when I saw this the other day. Is Boston gay bar scene a thing of the past?

Lem,

A link to the Carl Yastrzemski song.

I’d like to think that in the early episode of The Simpsons in which Milhouse pines for a $30 card of Carl Yastrzemski with the big sideburns, the card in question is one of these two. Research indicates that it was specified as his 1973 card, but let’s be honest: if you’re looking for Yaz sideburns, the 1978 and 1979 issues are each about 30% sideburns.

Titus......-

No offense to the Red Sox, but Cincinnati is the birthplace of Major League Baseball. The ballpark is one of the better new style ones.

Elliott A म्हणाले...

What does Prof. Althouse think about Sammy Sosa being investigated by Congress for possible perjury when the evidence is anonymous, and comes from a leak of sealed Grand Jury testimony about an anonymous drug test that somehow became a labelled drug test?

Go Phillies!

All throughout the worst slump of his career the crowd at Fenway always supported Big Papi.

The never booed and they would stand up and egging him on even when the count was 0 and 2 and it looked like he would either pop out or strike out yet again.

Till one day a few weeks back Big Papi hit one out to straight away center field.

The crowd broke it loudest cheer and I felt my chest swelled up as he was lumbering around second.

That moment, that seemed so deliciously rare, had only been made possible because it had been so familiar for so long.

TitusWantsYouToFight म्हणाले...

Yes, Boston Gay Bars are a thing of past, as in most large cities.

They are closing.

The internets closed the gay bars.

Fenway is buying up all the properties around Fenway and with it will go one of the oldest bars-Ramrod-subtle I know.

The gays tend to go to lounges that are "straight" but have a large gay attendance.

My sister is coming here this weekend from Wisconsin and she and her fiance were considering going to watch the Sox but the seats were $150.00 a piece so she decided not to.

I went to a Cincinnati gay bar once and it was awful.

TitusWantsYouToFight म्हणाले...

also, sitting in the Green Monster is one of the most thrilling experiences I have ever had.

Ralph L म्हणाले...

Titus, I'm sorry your life has been so boring.

Suddenly I am left to wonder as to our hostess' baseball leanings...

...has her time in Wisconsin turned her into a de facto Brewers fan, or does she have historical ties to the Tigers, Mets, or Yankees?

As a Brewers die hard (yes, even during the 80s and 90s when they sucked), I can't remember the last time that Ann has made a baseball post that was actually about the game itself, or baseball fandom.

A welcome addition to the blog topics....unless Meade turns you into a Reds fan. Even then, it could always be worse (I may turn tail and run if I even see a Cubs logo here non-ironically).

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

As a Brewers die hard (yes, even during the 80s and 90s when they sucked)..

Harvey's wallbangers werent that bad. Sadly you dont see that kind of grit baseball anymore.

Old RPM Daddy म्हणाले...

I haven't been to a Reds game in over 20 years, much less been to Great American Ball Park. I attended a number of games at Riverfront Stadium, which opened in 1971 or so.

I saw my first Reds game when I was around seven years old. My brother, Dad, and I came down on a YMCA bus from Dayton. As we rode through central Cincinnati, approaching the stadium, Dad pointed out the window and said, "Look, that's old Crosley Field. They're tearing it down now." Sure enough, there was the stadium where the Reds used to play, in ruins. Some of the bleachers remained standing, and maybe a lightpole or two. At the time, it struck me as heartbreaking, but I was thrilled to see the new stadium loom in front of us.

I still remember -- it was the Reds versus San Diego. I got to see Joe Morgan hit a home run, and the Reds come home with a victory.

Sorry about the ramble. The picture kind of took me back.

Ralph L म्हणाले...

I went to a Washington Senators game a year or two before they went to Texas, when I was 9 or 10. They lost.

The Elder म्हणाले...

Titus: "I went to a Cincinnati gay bar once and it was awful."

For you or for the gay bar?

Hmmm. I bet I know.

knox म्हणाले...

What I want to know is, what does Althouse wear to to a ball game?

knox म्हणाले...

Also, just an aside, I've always loved the Reds' mascot. How do you come up with a mascot for a baseball team whose name is a color? Why, just make it a giant baseball head, of course.

There's even a crazy new one running around now with a large moustache. That's how you improve the un-improvable.

Ralph L म्हणाले...

Tank top, flip flops, and spandex shorts, what else?

John Stodder म्हणाले...

I'm thrilled to pieces to see this photo on Althouse. Baseball is the only thing that's been missing from this little oasis of enlightenment.

One of our Yaz stories...

Who was the genius who thought it made sense to name a birth control product after Carl Yazstremski?

John Stodder म्हणाले...

How do you come up with a mascot for a baseball team whose name is a color? ...

You're all aware the Reds took to calling themselves the "Redlegs" during the McCarthy era.

knox म्हणाले...

John Stodder, what's up. You need to start commenting more. Get with the program.
