No sound here, but is this even worse than the video, the fact that it involves cats in costumes, and the Gawker link would suggest?
Maybe Althouse could get serious and, for instance, weigh in one why the BHO admin checking visitors at airports makes no sense if we're just going to allow hundreds or thousands of people to walk across the border each day.
This panic over swine flus is nuts. I heard that a plane diverted and landed because a woman on a plane looked sick, that schools are closing all over the place, that Mexico City, which has a population of 20 million, looks like a ghost down, streets empty, restaurants deserted, parks and playgrounds silent. And this is because 12 people in Mexico died and a couple hundred got the flu?
Mexico has a population of over 110 million. Half a million of them die ever year. Another 12 is an infinitesimals blip. I'll bet in any normal year thousands of people there die from the flu. They only reason they are worried now is that they think the flu came from swine, but NPR says it doesn't. Furthermore this brand of flu isn't even particularly dangerous. And yet people are running around shooting their pigs, wearing blue masks, keeping their kids home from school.
We are such a panicky society. Air Force One flew over lower Manhattan a few days ago and people were running in the streets. They weren't even all running in the same direction. They didn't know what they were running towards or from. True lunacy.
But the jumpy citizens of NY and NJ didn't know that, all they knew was a 747 was flying low buzzing the Statue of Liberty at very low altitude and making more than one pass with jet fighters in pursuit. Had they been notified there would have been no alarm at all, in fact people would have welcomed the chance to snap a few pics of their beloved leader's plane. As it was, they would be stupid not to be alarmed.
This gave the Right the perfect gift to harp obnoxiously for the remainder of Obama's term, just as the left has done with Bush. It's the new dialogue. Or perhaps the old dialogue intensified by blogs and by a hopelessly biased media.
I look back at those papers I wrote as an undergraduate on government and media that I got an A on, and think to myself how incredibly naïve.
Christy, I guess it depends how stupid your neighbors are, I got two nice baby back racks, some thick cut loin chops and a shoulder roast for the freezer for less than half the usual price.
No plane is AF One unless the president is aboard.
The plane didn't buzz anything. It never got below a thousand feet.
In the video I saw the fighter wasn't pursuing the 747 it was flying behind it and to one side. It's flight path was parallel to that of the 747. It certainly wasn't closing the gap or flying directly toward at the president's plane as if it intended to shoot it down. If I were going to run from something like that I would at least know what I was running towards or from. But then I'm not from New York, and don't usually run, especially if I see a plane over 1.000 feet up flying away from me.
I still can't understand why the administration told the FAA and the mayor's office to keep the flight a secret, unless it feared that people would be disgusted at wasting so much money on a PR photo when so many people are out of work.
Far out! The dude with the medals is HRH Sisavang Vong (or something like that), who was the King of Laos in the 1950s. Later his son and the rest of the family got done to them, more or less, in the caves up in Houaphan, what the Romanovs got done to them in Yekaterinberg by the Bolsheviks. The picture is from some pre-1975 Royal Laotian currency.

I should probably watch Lost at some point so I could actually get these references.
But apathy is more satisfying than almost any TV show.
Meade, after the nuptials can you please keep the Althouse from posting such weirdness? If I want this stuff, I'll go to HuffPo...

We got our first case of swine flu at the pediatrician's office where I work in Nashville.

I'm just waiting for Miss Piggy to release a statement saying she thinks all this "swine flu" talk is racist.
If Jeremy were awake and human, he would say that this is Un-American, un-patriotic, disgusting, and despicable.
Actually awake is sufficient.

That wasn't AF1, it was AF1's evil twin.

There was a flu update on the TV news tonight, and "swine" were never mentioned, it was H1N1 every time.
Funny, original, incongruous.
Hey, if I'm gonna "krap" chowda in my pants, I want it to be milkly smooth New England style, not that Manhattan style puke.
Hector, it's H1N1 here, too, where we've closed 4 schools and parents are furious they weren't closed earlier - before the cases were confirmed.
I went looking for bargains on pork yesterday, didn't find 'em.

We're having the ribs tonight. Yum.
Egypt will be the place to find bargains on pork. For a short time, anyway. Then it will become very expensive indeed.
