"I just want to say that, when somebody has a disfigurement, or don't look as pretty as you do..."

"... don't judge them, because you never know what happened to them."

Connie Culp, whose husband shot her face off, speaking after a face transplant.
"You never know what might happen to you and you might get into a car wreck and think you are beautiful one day ....and don't look the same as you did, you never know, one day it might be taken away."

That woman is an inspiration. A true "Born Identity!"

XVI Schooling

In those days the police were weak and the family was
strong Hand in hand the first day Geryon's mother took
him to school This would be hard for you if you were
weak But you're not weak she said and neatened his little
red wings and pushed him in through the door

XVII Reasoning

Are there many little boys who think they are a
monster? But in my case I am right said Geryon to the
dog they were sitting on the bluffs The dog regarded him
joyfully

(later a book but with changes I don't prefer)

As always the answer is a dog.

Brave woman.

She could have just refused interviews and gone quietly about her life. Rebuilding it. But she comes forward.

I just love, love, love people who after facing (literally) something horrible don't retreat and curse the world.

What wonderful lesson in compassion, gratitude and selflessness. It’s a good reminder that at the end of the day, we’re all just human and we’re all just trying to make it. Thanks.

Few emerge from the crucible of trauma shining as brightly from within as this.

Who would have ever thought this could be possible? One of the nurses in our hospital's burn unit said so many people were holding their breaths waiting for this moment. Think of the possibilities for so many to lead more "normal" lives. I hope Connie Culp writes a book about her experiences.

I was shocked at the before-and-after pictures. Those doctors gave this woman her life back. Really a miracle.

Unless he gets out early because of good behavior.

My brother-in-law is her speech therapist; she mentioned him in passing about 2 minutes along. The Cleveland Clinic does some amazing work.

Like Pogo, I'm appalled that her husband got only 7 years for what was clearly attempted murder.

It really really is what is on the inside. Brave woman, I like her already.

Her husband got 7 years?!

What an outrage.

I hope she gets the quiet family life she says she wants. Many people would just have given up. She didn't.
