"What Do Women Diavloggers Want?"

It's me and Emily Bazelon, talking about Gitmo, Limbaugh, movies, and sex sex sex:

ADDED: I had a problem with the video recording that starts about 9 minutes in... when I start talking about Limbaugh.

Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. We guys scorn talk about sex; we're more into pictures!

By the looks of it, that's just how Obama wants it ;)

I was visiting India in December and there is a healthy skepticism towards Obama, especially in want he can accomplish (e.g. Palestine/Israel conflict). However, what Bush symbolizes to the rest of the world is still quite raw. It's a symbol and to some it may be an egregious caricature but it is what it is.

Some may have found Obama's words in bad taste and underestimated the complexities of America's relationship with the Middle East but a clear break from Bush is what is needed. This too is a symbol and it may be a weak one but only time will tell.

Pouting about it in the context of "bad manners" or correct "president protocol" seems trivial and shallow.

Observation: if you are having good sex, there is no need to talk, talk, talk about it.

That was amazing.Emily only values the symbolism she has pinned on people and has no interest in reality. To Emily the symbol alone is all the reality you need, and she is irritated when the Professor brings up any thinking that tries to analyze what her symbols represent into a real world context. Talk about a narcissistic paradise; Emily choses to live a life in which "she is what she has been waiting for".And more amazingly, Emily does not appear to need a drug, except for her total freedom to be Emily. The Professor ran circles around her, but Emily seemed unaware of her exposure and got the Alfred E. Neuman look whenever anything worrisome was thrown at her.God help us if we ever expect the Emily's of the world to protect anyone from real problems.

Attn Prurient Sex Fans: The sex talk doesn't start until about twenty minutes in and ends some eleven minutes later. The talk confirms the sex research that shows women are completely hypocritical about sex. While not so atrophying as the chatter about Limbaugh, the salacious content of the talk is almost nil....Why can't two attractive, articulate women sit down and discuss the pros and cons of a bikini wax and the stylistic and frisson nuances of the new Victoria Secret line. Such a conversation would elevate the consciousness of all your readers.

If I'd come on this video cold, I would have thought that the smug, chin up-thrust Ms. Bazelon writes the cooking column for a small-town Iowa newspaper.

Its useful to see videos of some of these 'big name' Slate-type writers to see how unimpressive they are. Teaches at Yale law. Hard to believe.

"atrophying"

You'll have to measure it yourself, Will.

Good vlog.

Nice to see issues discussed in good faith and at some length without resorting to ad hominem tactics and cable TV style conflict.

Blogging Heads used to have more of these conversations. I wish they could get back to it.

The sex research was interesting, as The Prof. pointed out to Emily, who only wanted to see the research as affirming for Emily not to have suffer from anyone telling her not to do anything she enjoys doing. The research had found out that women could enjoy anything and everything, but were mentally picking the best social deal they could find to practice their sexual prowess. That made women sound more intelligent than men. But Emily could not have cared less, revealing that she has never had to chose among limited choices. Emily expects to enjoy it all whenever she wants to. How can Emily's types ever be "equal" to everyone? Kind of like Fidel Castro is equal in Cuba,I fear.

It is of course true that President Obama’s public and counterfactual denigration of President Bush and the lawful policies of the United States is distasteful as politically motivated self-dealing, in violation of his Oath of Office.

But on the other hand, a little Bush bashing never hurt anyone and now we can be sure that attacks on Americans and American interests will now drop to zero.

Hmmmm . . . decisions . . . decisions . . .

I got 1/4 of the way through to the point where Emily says she's not surprised released prisoners return to Al Qaeda considering our treatment of them during captivity. It doesn't surprise any of us who know the first thing about fanaticism. At that point I realized once again how sick I am of listening to this point of view. I don't care about Guantanamo as a symbol. It means nothing to me and it never will. No amount or degree of harping will ever make me care. Instead, the converse, I turn on the person doing the harping. I don't care what happens to any of the prisoners. If Obama would decide to have them all summarily shot, I wouldn't care. Release them all en mass, I still wouldn't care. I don't care about their lives or about their deaths, or about their activities. I used to care, but listening to the Emilys of the world has caused me to care less and less until finally continuous careful listening to Emilys has caused me to care nothing at all. I'll let the Emilys figure out what to do with these people, they're apparently far more interested in the subject than I am. Good luck.

Oh, and I mustn't forget, piss off.

Chip--

To follow on that, Prof. Bazelon also says this is "an abysmal moment" in the history of the middle east peace process.

Of course.

It looks like to me the Israelis are winning. The AP says its air force continues to "pound" smuggling tunnels. Good. Good for the Israelis.

OK I started watching then I had to comment and the video stopped.

I am sick of these "technocrats" hopefully Ann is about to jump on her...

Earlier at Volokh I was reading where they think it would be just a grand idea to move the Gitmo detainees to Bagram,-Afghanistan.

You know right in the middle of an on going war.

Here's the deal- because of the nature of terrorism and this group of people "freeing" their comrades would be a main objective.

Think of it-"Omar" and his buddies want to free their fellow terrorists-what's easier?

Driving to Bagram, or hell-finding a cruise to Cuba, blah, blah, blah.

See? Not as easy.

But hell so the lawyers can feel better because of some technicality, or because of "symbology" according to Emily risking a few soldiers lives transporting these bastards and guarding them over in prime grade terrorist territory-what the hell.

And by the way Connecticut would be easier than Gitmo...and remember nobody has "surrendered".

OK shit-maybe we did.

Men knowing and saying what they want is what works to the advantage of women.

Call it low standards.

Women on the other hand will always want something else, in order that there be some quest that the man has to go on first.

The man has to prove himself worthy.

This in the end leaves the woman herself wondering what the hell she wants, if she thinks about it.

Evolution's plan is that she doesn't have time or need to think about it. That was before birth control.

Chennaul म्हणाले...

OK Ann kind of hits her with the idea and her response-

Why bother?

Well they have bothered.

Taliban Attacks Afghan Prison-1,000 Escape

I don't want to draw too much of a comparison but they do have a code of honor to their fellow comrades...

We have Leave No Man Behind...

But you can anticipate Emily's response-

Why bother?

I started when Emily said, "If I were running Al Qaeda, I'd be more worried about {...} " I'm not sure I can explain how that summed up the disconnect I've experienced from the left since 9/11. Imagining that the thought process of someone like Mohammed Atta or a prisoner in Guantanamo might resemble your own just seems obtuse.

Michael Haz म्हणाले...

Emily - wake up a few minutes earlier so you'll have time for grooming, etc. Then you can look as smashingly good as Althouse looks.

Guesst म्हणाले...

Ann looks chic and fabulous. She projects an air of enthusiasm and self-awareness, perhaps caring what viewers think of her physical appearance, and knowing they will respond accordingly. Emily looks dreary and unkempt. Apparently she doesn't care what anyone thinks, and is not inspired by her own ideas enough to bother with herself. She is uninteresting, even to herself.

I am worn out from coping with liberals like Emily. They are exhausting, and I'm taking a mental health break from it all. Like Chip Ahoy, I'm content to let them deal with it all for the next few years. I will just pray we survive in spite of liberals, and leave it at that.
