Studying with babies.

Have you ever had a baby by your side when you were studying for a law school exam? I had one -- out of the frame -- when I posed for this photograph. The baby -- my older son, John -- was less than 2 months old, so he took no interest in my ordeal and went about his baby-business as usual.

But maybe you are studying with a baby who's a little older, like this one, who, I'm told, spontaneously dug the Constitution out of a schoolbag and started reading it:

Good luck to all the law students who are studying with babies!

ADDED: A few months later, John did take an interest:

prescient John

IN THE COMMENTS: Skyler says:
My daughter liked to study for the patent exam.
Some serious cuteness at the link. Plus, the daughter is named Elle.

Somewhere I've got a picture of my infant daughter and [me] watching the dittocam. If I wasn't interested in preserving a modicum of anonymity on this forum I'd post it.

But I am, so I won't.

Instead, I'll post a link this hilarious blog mocking pictures of cute animals.
Forgive me for correcting your grammar, but you Arne Duncanned.

As a Rush Limbaugh fan, you may be horrified to learn that when I created a tag for your pseudonym, Blogger tried to autocomplete "mcg" to "McGovern." But -- who knows? -- maybe you are McGovern. Who knows what celebs lurk behind these pseudonyms?

As for that blog -- Fuck You, Penguin -- I love it. Don't say "fuck you" in front of babies, but I'm totally on the same page as the Fuck You, Penguin blogger: what does this asshole think he is doing?

JAC, super cute baby

Having a younger brother and siters, it's being my experience that babys don't have a great constitution.

Quite a slew of Althousiana in that photostream. This one is very French actress.

... And the sad fact is, despite his age, he's still more qualified to study law and conduct critical thinking than some lawyers I've seen.

No, but they certainly have emanations, don't they?

Ick.

Whooops... I stand corrected.

Still, the original point stands. She's more qualified than some I've seen.

OT:

Hey guys. :)

I was told someone had mentioned my absence (as well as another wonderful Althouse poster of yesteryear), so I decided to pipe up and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

There is absolutely nothing going on to prevent me from coming here, except for the fact that Professor Althouse changed her political leanings this election, and I felt an incremental distance in wanting to be here regularly.

Every once in a while, I read this blog via the Instapundit links, and it still continues to intrigue. For me, though, the best part of Althouse is the readership, and I hope that will never change.

So I'm just giving it a little time to see what's what before returning, if indeed I do. Meanwhile, you are more than welcome to come over to my blog, Sundries, and wave hello.

Incidentally, I have a Christmas Movie Guide a-brewin', and I know how many of you love cinema (especially Ron).

Finally, I'd like to use a Palinism and give a shoutout to Titus, who inquired about me.

If that is really you posting, the one, the only original Titus, let me say that I miss you, especially your unique "voice". You are like Country music -- I came for twang, but I stayed for the stories.

Catch you all soon.

Cheers,
Victoria

I miss you too Vic.

Now if we could just get ole Sippican Cottage to come back, it'd be just like old times.

Oh, and the other reason is that I have my shirt off in the photo and I don't want to get Titus excited. I mean, a cute baby, Rush Limbaugh, and my naked chest. I shudder to think what he'd do.

Two babies and law school!?!?!?

You are not a diva, but a goddess!

vbspurs म्हणाले...

Hey John and Tibore! Thanks for the kind messages. :)

John, doh, I apologise. I sent one email after I had the story updated to me, and I didn't followup (I think not even to Palladian -- is he around here anymore?).

Please forgive me. I will try to hunt around for the info again. :(

Cheers,
Victoria

5 babies and being mayor/governor. I used to think that most feminists would be so in awe of that, that they would canonise whatever woman would accomplish such a feat.

How wrong I was.

I like how JAC is pushing away the law book with total contempt.

"Law school is SOOO beneath me and if I was going to attend I wouldn't need THAT book."

Hello, Victoria. I loved your site during the election but why is it the world's most computer jamming site?

I use Firefox but when I go to your site - and your site alone - my computer goes into temporary paralysis.

I guess I'm being a baby for complaining.

Beautiful daughter Skyler. What country did you adopt her from?

Or let me guess, you were deployed overseas and 9 months or so later your daughter was born.

It's probably your kid anyway, don't worry about it!

But Victoria, Professor Althouse didn't change her political leanings this election. She was voting against type the last couple of times, and that was only because of 9/11 and her concern for American safety. Now that we've won in Iraq and things are settling down, why, it's a great idea to vote for a {complete naif|corrupt Chicago machine politician|transformative trans-racial messianic figure} for the presidency. Didn't you know?

Hope you're well, dear. Good to see you.

Richard Fagin म्हणाले...

I'm trying to understand why Prof. Althouse needed to read a book entitled, "How to Succeed in Law School." It seems self-evident that she already knew how to do that.

Unknown म्हणाले...

Why, to learn how best to thwart her students' ambitions, of course!

Unknown म्हणाले...

Forgive me for correcting your grammar, but you Arne Duncanned.

Well, I deserved it, though I seem to be in decent company. Anyway, if that's what it takes to score a tag...

Although that book was out and within reach because we were packing up to move, it's something I bought and read before I went to law school. My undergraduate degree was a BFA and my nonart courses were taken mostly at the Residential College, which was basically a place for hippies when I attended. I got into NYU solely on the strength of my LSAT score. I'd never taken a single course in Economics, Political Science or any of the other things I assumed other people had studied before going to law school. I also had no lawyers in the family and no close friends who had gone to law school. I believed myself to be at a grave disadvantage, and I was. So I made a plan, based in part on that book, to get by in spite of all my shortcomings and I stuck to it. Successfully.

I am far closer to McGyver than to McGovern. But to be honest I'm not McG-anything. Just mcg.

Skyler म्हणाले...

Ha! I didn't realize that Reese Witherspoon's character in legally blonde was named Elle. I hope she grows up just as smart and plucky.

My brother suggested the name because we wanted a name easy to spell in sign language, and the fact that it's a palindrome, like my last name, made it just perfect.

Christie म्हणाले...

I have a similar pic from earlier in the semester. (You can view it here if you wish: http://onelmom.blogspot.com/2008/09/federal-rules-of-civil-procedure.html)

Unfortunately, my baby got sick and I had to take a leave of absence before all that studying could be utilized on a test.

The new link for Elle studying for the patent exam is here.
