Crowdsurfing a baby to Obama.

From the Yes We Can (Hold Babies) blog, where they want cute babies with Obama, not abominations like this:

The babies know. Test your candidate with a baby today.

Via Metafilter, where someone reminds us of how the babies tried to warn us about Bush:

Listen to the wisdom of babies.

Come to me my melancholy baby . . .

John Burgess म्हणाले...

I'm reminded of the time that my then-two-year-old son, normally as gregarious a being as their could be this side of naked mole rats, was at a diplomatic reception for Sen. Ted Kennedy.

My son backed off and hid, absolutely refusing to have anything to do with Kennedy.

Good instincts....

'their' = 'there'

I love that photo of President Bush with the screaming baby. It looks to me as if he's sympathizing with the kid.

I question the judgment of any parents that crowd-surfs their toddler. ("Whatever do you mean? Of course there are no bad people in an Obama crowd!")

The Obama campaign, and the people surrounding and supporting it, are really creeping me out these days.

Further reflections on press bias: What are the odds of a picture of an uncomfortable McCain holding a crying baby appearing vs the odds of a smiling Obama holding an adorable baby appearing in the paper of record.

bill म्हणाले...

Couldn't find a photo, but the McCain picture makes me think of Dan Ackroyd playing Tom Snyder.

Darcy म्हणाले...

LOL! Adorable pics. Even the ones w/the crabby babies.

Very cute post.

The top picture joyously celebrates "it takes a village to raise a child."

After the blessing, the child was safely returned by the same method. Dinner (loaves and fishes) was then served to the faithful.

David म्हणाले...

Or, as Alexander the Great said after his first foray as a teenage commander,

"It takes a child to raze a village."

The top photo depicts a pagan ceremony.

The Obama baby is weirdly placid. That's one poised baby.

laff laff but I wouldn't want my baby crowd-surfed, yet the wee one doesn't seem to mind - the strange sensations of being handled in this manner wore off quickly I imagine and the infant soon realized the loss of eye contact/touch with a parent and sttarted wailing at which time the child was deemed a Republican and cast to the floor

Unsuccessfully, in your case.

The term for it is phlegmatic.

Hopefully that mother wasn't being punished with that baby. O would not like that.

Middle picture: From flyover country, obviously. For chrissakes, fleece pink on baby puke green? Is this the best we can do, display our kids to the nation dressed off the rack at Walmart? We need to take a page from the dems "(Shop Estella This Fall & We will Donate Food To Needy Kids)" playbook.

DaLawGiver म्हणाले...

I never let any politician hold or kiss my baby. No telling what those hands or lips have been touching.

I'm actually planning to watch tonight's debate with my two kids (8 and 10-years old). I very much want to see their impressions.

Chip Ahoy म्हणाले...

Your multi-varied infant-related quips, remarks, anecdotes and barbs cheer me this morning and set me in good nature.

john म्हणाले...

Of course, when they're bigger, we should dress them here.

Henry म्हणाले...

Last night my 15-month old vomited over into my shirt (don't worry, he's okay).

I think I'll watch the debate with him.

Christy म्हणाले...

I say call social services on that surfing baby's momma, and have the baby drug tested.

john म्हणाले...

My personal pole has revealed that most dems I know don't want their kids watch the debate. I know why.

KCFleming म्हणाले...

Who would be foolish enough to stand under a baby?

Not me.
When my daughter was just two months old, I played oopsy daisy, lifting her overhead again and again and we laughed and laughed until she threw up in my mouth.

My wife's only response was I told you not to do that. Which in fact she had.

Message: Don't get under the baby.

john म्हणाले...

Pogo,

Don't moms of many species feed their babies that way? It's just evolution.

KCFleming म्हणाले...

Moms, yes.

Dads, not so much. Plus, I think they regurgitate their own, uh, stuff, not take from the baby.

That's like stealing candy from a baby, only disgusting.

Peter Hoh म्हणाले...

It's possible that the baby's father is the man in the blue shirt. If that's the case, this isn't about crowdsurfing but the crowd supporting an overreach. Not like we haven't seen that before.

I'm not really taking this too seriously, but I know babies. The reactions of the three babies can't be compared. There's a stage in which many babies don't mind being held by strangers; I'm guessing that the baby in the first photo is in that stage. It certainly appears older than the other two babies. If I'm correct about the point above, that baby has yet to be out of its parent's hands, which also makes him/her less likely to cry.

Peter Hoh म्हणाले...

Pogo, you want disgusting? Watch adult robins flying away from their nestlings. They often have something in their mouths. Think about it for a moment.

Peter Hoh म्हणाले...

John, we really don't want to know about your personal pole :-)

George M. Spencer म्हणाले...

Baby kissing is a practice where politicians kiss babies in order to garner public support. The practice appears to have originated during the Jacksonian democracy along with other techniques such as "banners, badges, parades, barbecues, free drinks and baby kissing [which were used] in an effort to 'get out the vote'".[1] Although baby kissing is often portrayed as standard campaign fare, this technique is rarely used in modern elections.

I think baby surfing started with Kerry. Not sure.

Unknown म्हणाले...

I can't believe they actually crowd-surfed a baby to a politician. That's sick.

David म्हणाले...

The baby in the Obama pic is a UW future coed who is practicing for football games.

Trooper York म्हणाले...

That picture is a phony. It is really from a Madonna concert where they passed a baby up to the stage for her to adopt.

Trooper York म्हणाले...

Oh wait...celebrities only adopt babies from Africa...nevermind.

Trooper York म्हणाले...

If Mort were awake he would say that was racist.

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

A politician has just walked by dozens of people, shaking all of their hands. Now that his hands are covered in germs from scads of random strangers, do you really want that politician touching your baby?

Unknown म्हणाले...

The McCain baby is worried about the hot bottled water that is certainly on the way.

Hoosier Daddy म्हणाले...

Well not just any politician but if that politician is Barrack Hussein Obama doing the touching, that baby will probably start walking, be potty trained and not suffer the pain of teething. After that he'll change water into baby formula.

Peter Hoh म्हणाले...

hoosier, now if he could turn water into breast milk . . . .

Hilarious comment thread. Thanks for the chuckles! :)

Unknown म्हणाले...

Don't you worry about that baby being crowdsurfed. Obama is the Great Healer and he will be safe in his hands.

AllenS म्हणाले...

Crowdsurfing a baby? Did Dwarf Tossing go out of style?

Palladian म्हणाले...

Wait, I thought babies already controlled the government. Remember when Speaker Pelosi said that... "the gavel of the speaker of the House is in the hands of special interests, and now it will be in the hands of America's children"?

Palladian म्हणाले...

"Before we move forward, because there are so many children here, and so many of them asked me if they could touch the gavel..."

I thought that Mark Foley said that, but it could have been Nancy Pelosi...

Palladian म्हणाले...

Some babies like George W. Bush. Some babies whisper policy ideas into his ears. Some babies send dark ideas into his head using special powers. Some babies like to expose themselves to him.

Godot म्हणाले...

Imagine the baby in each photo is named Fannie Mae. Now take another look.

The Democrats are trying to pass the baby. McCain is stuck with the baby.
And President Bush is a baby.

blake म्हणाले...

You know, those Olympic relay races would be a lot more intereting if they passed a baby rather than a baton.

ron st.amant म्हणाले...

I remember seeing the video of that baby with President Bush...it was hysterical. Let's hope he has better luck when he gets some grandchildren.

Synova म्हणाले...

The picture of Bush and the baby is the best one. It's just really a great picture. I hope the parents have the sense to get a really nice one printed up and framed (which is what parents want for their baby, right?) because it's just a really great picture.

अनामित म्हणाले...

The baby with McCain was a democrap. Still had his eyes closed and had no sense.

Eli Blake म्हणाले...

I have a friend who, as a baby, once peed on Bob Dole.

And that's the truth.
