If Michelle Obama were doing a rally 5 blocks from your house, would you go?

This is a non-hypothetical question for me.

Should Althouse go to the Michelle Obama rally?
Yes, because it's so easy.
Yes, because it's an important rally.
Yes, to get descriptions and photographs for the blog.
No, she's got more important things to do.
No, because it's not important and not that bloggable.
No, because Michelle Obama hates America.

Sure, if you think it could be bloggable (which includes photos, not just commentary) and your vote is still in play.

Simon म्हणाले...

You could wear your "Jackson '88" button.

- she will be awash in a sea of red, white and blue, oh! what lovely pics for your blog too

Harwood म्हणाले...

You left out a question:

Should Althouse make this decision without resorting to an opinion poll?

Salamandyr म्हणाले...

I think it's "Not important, but bloggable".

Tell me, how far back does this trend of the wife acting as a surrogate for her husband on the campaign trail go? Did Barbara Bush do it? Nancy Reagan? June Carter? (did I get Jimmy's wife's name right?)

No offense to Michelle, but she in herself doesn't actually seem that interesting.

Zero data in not neutrality, even if it’s Michele ;)

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

The thing about rallies is that you have to wait a long time for the main speaker to appear. It's just so damned tedious.

It's outdoors on a dreary day....

June Carter was married to Johnny Cash.

Rosalynn is married to Jimmy.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Yes, because you'll see other Americans who are proud of their country for the first time.

If it were me, I go and take pictures of dogs.

I was just up on the roof. Very nice view of the rally site. It doesn't look very crowded to me.

I wonder if she is flying in. Lots of fog today! (Y'all are welcome for the straight line)

I noticed that some of the cannons are missing from the park. Anyone local know what's up with that?

Is there a good coffee place adjacent?

I do not remember wives being given so much importance and responsibility druing campaigns until the Clintons arrived on the scene.

Whether by design or her own will, Hillary was given more importance and power over Bill's campaigns than any previous candidate's wife; at least that we know of.

With Michelle, they may be trying to redo the JFK election; accomplished pretty wife, dresses well, and in Michelle's case, can actually deliver a speech.

According to the new feminist rules handed down from above during the past few weeks, shouldn't she be home tending the kids?

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Hey, Madison Man, take some pictures through the fog and email them to me.

I don't know if I'm going to make it, mainly because it doesn't fit into my routine, and outdoor rallies are so tiresome.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

"Is there a good coffee place adjacent?"

Yeah, but if I motivate myself to make the big move from my home office to my law school office, I'm not going to dally in a café. I'm going to actually get to the rally and take photos.

Brian Doyle म्हणाले...

Boy it's fun watching Ann make a big deal about not really wanting to go see Michelle Obama. It's not hostility, but you can tell she's really into not being into it.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

I hate feeling obligated to do anything. If you had the wide view of my behavior with respect to everything, you wouldn't see this as Michelle-specific. I blow off events all the time. I just don't like having to do anything.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

Doyle, I'd say all of Madison is yawning at the prospect of Michelle being here.

Mayor Dave talked, now Kathleen Falk. The usual parade of Democratic talkers. I've come back to my desk to get work done.

Brian Doyle म्हणाले...

Doyle, I'd say all of Madison is yawning at the prospect of Michelle being here.

Yes but not all of Madison would write a blog post calling attention to their boredom, or soliciting feedback from her wingnut readership about what she should do w/r/t the rally situation.

Brian Doyle म्हणाले...

And are you sure there aren't any Obama fans in Madison that might like to see Michelle in person?

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

I'm sure there are at least 500 -- that's how many are there now.

KCFleming म्हणाले...

Ann, go and walk through when Michelle appears. Snap a few pics. 15 miutes, tops.

Just a sip would do.

ricpic म्हणाले...

I hope, for her sake, she's got more important things to do.

Trooper York म्हणाले...

Everybody in Madison called in sick because they are still puking because of the Packer's performance last night.

Except for Madison Man. He is a glutton for punishment.

Good man.

I don't like this expectation on the political spouse to go out and give campaign speeches. Aside from the fact that the spouse isn't running, what if the spouse has his own interests? He suddenly has to drop everything and hit the stump? Yuck.

Trumpit म्हणाले...

One third of those polled think Michelle Obama hates America. Pogo knows what I think of them. It's something scrawled on most public bathroom walls in feces.

Roberto म्हणाले...

Just look at the insane vote count.

Most wouldn't because..."Michelle hates America?"

Who the fuck are these people...and why would we want them voting??

It's embarrassing.

Roberto म्हणाले...

Peter V. Bella said..."I do not remember wives being given so much importance and responsibility druing campaigns until the Clintons arrived on the scene."

You mean, except for Nancy and Barbara?

Both made solo appearances at a variety of venues, campaigning for their husbands.

It's nothing new and means little if anything in the broad scheme of things. (And no, Petey, I'm not secretly implying any of them "broads" because we ALL know how sensitive you are about being politically correct.)

Unknown म्हणाले...

I think it's embarrassing (for Althouse) that the leading vote on her poll is the "Michelle Obama hates America" choice.

अनामित म्हणाले...

* Yes, as far away as possible.

vbspurs म्हणाले...

Yes, to get descriptions and photographs for the blog

That's the one I voted for, BTW. Is there any other reason?

LonewackoDotCom म्हणाले...

I went to a BHO rally way back in Feb. 2007 with the intention of asking him the embarrassing question at the link. Unfortunately, there was no Q&A session.

I'm sure that Althouse would go to a MO rally with the intention of not asking a question, and if she were somehow required to ask a question it would be as trivial as what she came up with when she was selected for the McCain conference calls presumably because they knew how much of a lightweight she is.
