Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain Pets
• Dog, Sam the English springer spaniel.
• Dog, Coco the mutt.
• Cat, Oreo, black and white.
• Turtles, Cuff and Link.
• Birds, three parakeets.
• Ferret
• Fish, 13 saltwater fish.
SENATOR BARACK OBAMA
• Obama has no pets but has promised his children that a dog will join the family at the conclusion of the election, win or lose. Michelle Obama has acknowledged that getting a dog was their major bargaining chip in winning their daughters support for the presidential run. She also revealed that that the kind of dog, it’s size and what its name will be is often discussed by the family.
Ah yes. The DNC showboating is over. Everyone there is on a euphoric high, but that will come to pass as well. The gloss will lose it's luster, the sharpness of sensation will become a dull pinprick of soreness, and in 2 weeks no one will even remember what Mr. Barely said or stood for. Hope and change will transmogrify into status quo. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Whenever W. expressed an opinion on a bill, McCain voted W.'s way 90% of the time.
I noted in the other thread that Simon's rebuttal was weak. The 90% figure is still a bit dishonest, though, since Obama is trying to present that as an example of McCain being wrong 90% of the time. The problem with that is that Obama himself voted with Bush 40% of the time. McCain's voting record for issues where Bush and Obama disagreed is more like 80%, with key issues like torture, taxation, and campaign finance reform included in that 20%.
I named my dog Jesus Christ, and we don't seem to have had any problems.
Is there anyone who hasn't heard this story? It's 30 years old that I know of:
Everybody who has a dog calls him Rover or Lassie. I called mine Sex. Now Sex has been very embarrassing to me. When I went to City Hall to renew his dog license, I told the clerk I would like to have a license for Sex. He said "I would like to have one too" then I said "but this is a dog" He said he didn't care what she looked like. Then I said "but you don't understand I have had Sex since I was 9 years old. He replied that I must have been quite a kid.
When I got married and went on my honeymoon, I took the dog with me. I told the hotel clerk I wanted a room for me and my wife and a separate room for Sex. He said every room in this place is for sex. I said "you don't understand. Sex keeps me awake all night" and the clerk replied "me too".
The whole story is at http://www.esatclear.ie/~irish.trade/gj000006.htm
I sure hope so. From what I've read of her I'd rather have her as President than McCain. Even if McCain loses, she seems like a promising choice for 2012.
Thanks a lot, FLS. Who can know for sure, but it seems like a coincidental flight route. :)
Well, my German mother always prescribes valerian to help me to sleep. God knows I won't miss the rally tomorrow, which starts at 9 AM as per the McCain website.
But I can't fall asleep. Too pumped from the events of last night, and what's to follow.
If you want a sure fire way to tucker yourself out and fall asleep, listen to that great and wise man who has taught us all so much about how to live our life.
OK, I have MSNBC on in the background and they're replaying the whole schmear, and I have to comment on the use of U2's "City of Blinding Light" song to introduce Obama.
It comes as no surprise that they'd pick a U2 song; those guys are like top-form Steven Spielberg as far as pushing emotional buttons goes. (What is it with the Irish and their beat-heavy music stepping up in tone and tempo just to get us wound? U2 is just RiverDance with electric guitars and lyrics.) So, U2. Did it have to be that song? Sheesh. Everyone uses that song, and I will forever associate it, for better or worse, with The Devil Wears Prada. It's not a good image to conjure up: a young woman, charming but inexperienced, toughened up by a white-haired, get-it-done professional.
If those were my choices, yeah, I'd vote for Meryl Streep over Ann Hathaway any day. I guess that makes me consistent.

apologies for all the uncredited riffs on fish tacos- but you like knew, didn't you?
Hey I never did West Coast blogging before. Everyone back east must be asleep. And Vicky must of taken my advice and broken out her copy of the Story of O and is now sleeping the sleep of the blessed. Amen.
Debra Dickerson (``End of Blackness'') on Imus observes the desperation of the McCain campaign and predicts it will now get really really ugly because that's the only way McCain can win.
Victoria, that'd be wonderful, but I'm unwilling to get my hopes up.
Joan said... "I have to comment on the use of U2's 'City of Blinding Light' song to introduce Obama ... Did it have to be that song? Sheesh."
What do you mean? That song is a perfect pick to introduce an Obama speech; consider its opening lines: "the more you see the less you know, the less you find out as you go."
Oh look, it's AJD again. Yawn. Dude, you've used at least 3 different screen names in the last 24 hours. Are you auditioning for the lead in a remake of "The Three Faces of Eve"?
NBC News "confirming" that Romney and Pawlenty are NOT the VP pick.
(According to their sources, presumably)
Suddenly, for the first time, Palin gets a public mention. For those of us in the Blogosphere, we've heard her name for months now. But I think it's going to come as a bombshell for your average American.
Obama has no pets but has promised his children that a dog will join the family at the conclusion of the election, win or lose. Michelle Obama has acknowledged that getting a dog was their major bargaining chip in winning their daughters support for the presidential run. I like that. You couldn't pay me to own a dog, but my kids have yet to really start negotiating.

After my father had been given a research position at Johns Hopkins, my mother and I were arrived at the courtesy housing flat, in a very dingy part of Baltimore (redundant, I know).
Man, was it depressing, and disorientating. What made it worse, is that he hadn't been able to greet us at the airport and we had to wait to enter our digs.
That's when I heard barking coming from under the door. I crouched my down, and saw a DELIGHTFUL little black nose peeping from under the slat.
My dad had bought me a little white poodle, as recompense.
To this day, I tear up thinking about it. It was the most amazing present a child could get -- and taught me about responsibility and care for another, like nothing else can.
Victoria - emotional investment? Can't imagine what that's like. ;) No, I know what you mean, and I'm trying to avoid it myself because I suspect he's going to pick someone mediocre and it'll be more of a let-down if we let ourselves think he was going to get it right.
Krauthammer, whom I respect, said that his pick was Pawlenty but there's no need for panic in Team McCain. He's tied in the polls, though he shouldn't be.
He should go "safe" and that he will.
(He mentioned Thompson, and the "readiness" problem with Palin)
My apologies for all the typos, etc. It's not only early (for me!), but I am very excited. I think you guys can feel that. So I'm rushing out my comments.
Also, my blog has been DELUGED with links, trackbacks, and hits. All for Palin. :)
- McCain has managed to do what Obama did not. Keep this a secret until the time he said he would announce the pick. Either MSM are not trying as hard as with Biden (which I suspect is the case), or Team McCain have their sh*t together unlike Mr. Barely (h/t Revenant).

Hey Ann,
Start a show your pet thread. You can learn a lot about a person by the type of pets they own.
Do Obama or McCain have any pets? I haven't seen any.
I think Obama would have a cocker spaniel and McCain would have some type of pug.
Compare here.

No matter what, no naming the dog "Fala!"
Or Allah...
I named my dog Jesus Christ, and we don't seem to have had any problems.
Just so long as you don't name your Teddy Bear Mohammed, you're okay.

Developing Story:
A private Gulfstream jet left Anchorage, AK bound for Hook Field Municipal Airport near Dayton OH (scene of tomorrow's VP pick).
It landed late at night.
Could it have been carrying Governor Sarah Palin?
John and Sarah. How biblical. Kinda goes with the quasi-religio theme we got goin' here.
Looks like the sea, right after the Titanic went down.
(brought over from the other thread)

Holy Shit!!! I just realized that it could be Fred Thompson. Nah. You think?

I mean of course Ernie Borgnine.
Turtles, Cuff and Link.
I wonder if McCain is a "Rocky" fan.

No sweat chicken dude. It's hard enough for you hiding from RH in the comments. A recurring motif is there for any one to use.
You racist.
Hey I had lunch in the Mexican restuarant in the MGM Grand and you know what was on the menu?
Fish Tacos!
What a hoot!
threadkiller you!
I had a double helping tonight!

Amen to you too. Good night!
It looks like it's going to be Governor Palin of Alaska.
The Maverick may just have changed the ballgame.
You want change? We got some.
Could it have been carrying Governor Sarah Palin?
It looks like it's going to be Governor Palin of Alaska.
Oh, I HOPE SO!
Debra Dickerson (``End of Blackness'') on Imus observes the desperation of the McCain campaign and predicts it will now get really really ugly because that's the only way McCain can win.
McCain won't do desperate. He is drawn to taking the high road. It must be is in his genes.
I can see Obama doing desperate though because he has a sense of entitlement since he was anointed a future star about 4 years ago.
If McCain wins, the big loser besides Obama will be the MSM. They have invested way way more energy in Obama than they did in Kerry,
Victoria, that'd be wonderful, but I'm unwilling to get my hopes up.

Late night calm, huh? I guess the Althouse wind-up toy has run itself out for now.
Can't wait to see it wound up again!

Yeah yeah. I lost my temper, and I'm sorry for that. But it happens, from time to time. I'm only human.

I own mousetraps.
Palladian, Ann should you put you on the payroll. LOL.
CNN confirming that Tim Pawlenty is OUT.
Apparently, he received a call informing him he was not the chosen Veep. That's a bit of a shock to many, I'm sure.

Could be a red herring, though.

But be that dad. :)

Simon, morning! And thanks.
A bit of a bucket of cold shower, but then I notice I was emotionally investing myself a little too much on Palin.
That's not good. Politics is a game. There's no room for sentiment. You gotta be on your toes or you're toast.
Also ABC have a reputation for breaking news right. However, I notice they still mention Pawlenty, and he's out, SOO, we'll see. ;)
Start your morning out with a big cup of cute: Maggie!
Beautiful!
TBH, the rare clumbers did nothing for me. I kept thinking, 'they look like droopy pants'.
Victoria - emotional investment? Can't imagine what that's like. ;) No, I know what you mean, and I'm trying to avoid it myself because I suspect he's going to pick someone mediocre and it'll be more of a let-down if we let ourselves think he was going to get it right.
FWIW, here are my contributions to the pets macro.
Fox News says that the manager of the airport mentioned above, checked in a Gulfstream jet at around 10 PM, and saw a 40ish year old woman aboard.
He didn't know who she was, but my God, this is it, right?
Simon, awwwwwwww! Not a cat person, but cute cute cute!
Heh.
Krauthammer, whom I respect, said that his pick was Pawlenty but there's no need for panic in Team McCain. He's tied in the polls, though he shouldn't be.
He should go "safe" and that he will.
(He mentioned Thompson, and the "readiness" problem with Palin)
The manager of the airport is Rich Beavis (!?), who a Fox News reporter interviewed.
Mr. Beavis said it COULD be her, when shown a photo of Governor her.
Actually, she's very pretty, but she doesn't have features which standout as unusual, like Cindy McCain, for example.
My apologies for all the typos, etc. It's not only early (for me!), but I am very excited. I think you guys can feel that. So I'm rushing out my comments.
Also, my blog has been DELUGED with links, trackbacks, and hits. All for Palin. :)
Yes, those of who've been around here awhile are clipping coupons from our shares of AltHausCo! 2nd Q Squizms up 1/8!
I've been getting more of the SquirrelBloggers Mutual Fund lately, so I'm not so tied to the Althousian volatility!
Much better than having to dump my Bloggingheads shares!
Yes, Vic, too much Valerian for you, not enough Hadrian this morning!
Two comments, before I go off for some breaky:
- McCain has managed to do what Obama did not. Keep this a secret until the time he said he would announce the pick. Either MSM are not trying as hard as with Biden (which I suspect is the case), or Team McCain have their sh*t together unlike Mr. Barely (h/t Revenant).

BRB!
Just came back, after listening to the Diane Rehm show on NPR.
Her commenters (as ever) were sour about McCain and the Republicans horning in on Obama's night, with the congratulations ad.
And they were even more sour about Sarah Palin. It's been "confirmed", they said, that Politico and The Chicago Trib that it's Palin!!!
FOX NEWS CONFIRMS OFFICIALLY IT IS PALIN!!!!!!!
Holy crap, is this how you pro-Obama liberals felt? It's a MAGNIFICENT feeling.
Chills. GAME CHANGER. Maverick!
