You can tell he has tenure now because his blog post is incredibly long. And it's the first of four parts! Why not just publish it in a journal? Geeze.
My brother was a bundle of nerves before he got tenure. I hope you were calmer.
I just learned earlier this summer that my Dad thought he had been denied tenure way back when at dear State Penn. The outgoing provost never told him the result of the vote, and then a year or so later, the new provost sent a note I found this folder on my desk.... That would be nervewracking. Meanwhile he had discreetly inquired of the Dept Head who also did not know of the result. Crazy!

One word: Crisp! Blog posts should be that.
Hey, they were long before I had tenure!
Thanks for the link, Ann!
Hi, John.
Congrats on the whole tenure thing.

Hey is this Hawks guy a Vulcan.
Cause he has know how to do the little hand thingie.
My chairman was kind enough to call me at home, on a Friday evening, to let me know. I was grateful for that.
I wasn't all that nervous because I had, somehow, done a pretty good job of convincing myself that it would be denied (thus, no point in worrying).
Dr. Hawks, how come you don't mention Ann as a fellow tenured co-blogger from U of Wisc-Mad?
Tsk. She's a pioneer.
Good stuff though. Congrats.
Cheers,
Victoria

Me too, and the dean sent an incredibly nice letter. Class acts all the way around here.
Victoria, I had tenure when I started. It's a different thing altogether to blog before you get tenure, as John did.
