"We're bacon people." "Does Obama eat bacon?" "He will eat the bacon."

Supposedly, "The View" had its "Best of Breakfast" segment set up before it booked Michelle Obama as a co-host for today's show. (I've blogged all the relevant details here). But such a huge deal was made out of the Obamas' lust for bacon, that I've started wondering if it was intended as a denial of the rumor that Obama is a Muslim.

Is the Obama campaign in danger of overdoing the I-am-not-a-Muslim routine? After all, it's not bad to be Muslim.

We need a link to that old fried bacon and gravy post. Mmmmm.

Maybe it isn't bad to be a Muslim. I just don't want my president wearing a head scarf. Is that too much to ask?

Meade म्हणाले...

Panty hose? That depends on how much pain he or she can stand.

Kirby Olson म्हणाले...

If you're a Muslim it's probably not bad to be a Muslim. But if you live in the Darfur and you are not a Muslim, then you will probably be raped and murdered. Ditto if you are little girl trying to read the newspaper among the Taliban. And if you are a woman, you just have to learn to get along without a clitoris, or any human rights. Also, if you are a Muslim in a Muslim country, forget about freedom of speech or freedom of inquiry. It's probably ok to be Muslim in a Muslim if you can just get used to not voting, or living in a country that has almost no quality of life compared to any place you can name in the west.

Also, if you are a Muslim woman in a Muslim country, once you adapt to the idea that as a witness there needs to be two of you to counteract the testimony of any man, then it's just fine to be a Muslim.

Plus not to mention the torture of craving bacon but never even getting to touch the stuff.

Criticize Obama all you want EXCEPT about the bacon. Unless it's fake soy/tofu bacon, which is an afront to mankind.

*After all, it's not bad to be Muslim.*

Tell that to your audience! Tell that to your base! Tell that to your comments section!

I happen to agree with you. But the base of the Republican Party doesn't like Muslims any more than it likes gays. (NB. This is a generalization; there are conservatives who are not rabid hatemongers.)

By the way, thank you for the excellent "blow by blow" of Michelle Obama's appearance on The View this morning. It was almost as good as seeing it live. I pulled it up in my web browser during a moment of extreme ennui at work late this afternoon, and it was just the distraction I needed to refresh my brain and finish out the work day. Despite my diametric opposition to your far-right politics masked as moderation, I do appreciate your excellent blog and your devotion to the craft.

Meade म्हणाले...

Have you personally ever known an individual of the swine race?

They are way smarter than dogs. And cleaner. More loyal. And affectionate.

I'd eat dog before I ate pig. I'd even eat soy/tofu dog before I ate pig.

Morningstar ``breakfast strips'' are great. There's nothing hard to fake about bacon. Just don't overnuke them. Even the dog won't touch them then. Cook them soft and let them harden up as they cool.

I'd gladly not think about a Muslim...or a Gay. But they keep getting in my face. I don't hate them. I just wish they'd calm down. Not demand to be noticed. Stop making a ruckus. Ya know, live and let live. As the great Rodney importuned: Can't we all get along?

Revenant म्हणाले...

I don't see how anyone who likes gay people can like Muslims too. Doesn't the fact that Islam calls for the murder of homosexuals clash with the notion that gay people should be allowed to live their lives free of harassment?

Besides, even if I did have a problem with gay people -- which I don't -- there's still the little fact that Mohammed insisted that atheists like myself need to be killed. That fact alone is enough for any person who admires Mohammed to be considered an asshole until proven otherwise.

Until I see a video clip of Obama eating bacon, I will never believe that he is indeed a bacon-eater.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

I think the people that erroneously think Obama is a Muslim are unlikely to realize that eating bacon is taboo for Muslims.

The Bacon-Muslim connection never occurred to me. But I live within smelling distance (if I drive to the airport) of a bacon powerhouse! Long live Oscar! So it never occurs to me that people don't consume fabulous bacon.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

By the way, I'm off to Sentry Hilldale right now, and bacon is on my list!

Meade म्हणाले...

I like Revenant but I don't like atheism and I don't want to have a president who is an atheist. So I wouldn't vote for Revenant even if he did eat Morningstar fake bacon.

Is that bad?

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

The Hilldale Sentry is really nice. Get the Nuetske's!

Hey a new profile photo! Cute! And sleeveless a la Michelle O.

No pantyhose I hope. Those would hurt.

Ralph L म्हणाले...

I've long thought bacon should have been used at Gitmo. Either feed it to them secretly (how would they recognize it?), or cook it around the cells every day if they did know it. How many Muslim riots would that start?

Ralph L म्हणाले...

You've left NYC, you don't have to wear black now.

Pastafarian म्हणाले...

Verso --

You equate disliking Muslims with disliking gays?

Really?

Muslims choose to follow a philosophy whose tenets include the murder of apostates, adulterers, and...gays.

Gays, on the other hand, (correct me if I'm wrong here), don't choose to be gay -- they're born with a predisposition toward it; and they don't hurt or threaten anyone just by being gay.

It's a little like equating a dislike of Nazis with antisemitism, isn't it?

No, wait -- it's exactly like that. You're a shit-for-brains, Verso.

Palladian म्हणाले...

In fact, I'd never vote for anyone who didn't like bacon. If your religion forbids it, find another religion.

Automatic_Wing म्हणाले...

Got to agree with ZPS...no way Obama really eats bacon. Breakfast for the messiah is a nonfat latte and half a pack of smokes.

Revenant म्हणाले...

So I wouldn't vote for Revenant even if he did eat Morningstar fake bacon. Is that bad?

Not particularly. I wouldn't vote for me either. :)

Cudahy bacon was on sale -- $3/pound! So that's what I got. It mostly goes into my son's stomach. Why waste good bacon on a tween?

Besides, You just know it's going to be delicious, when it's Paaatrick Cuudaheeee!

No, actually you have that backwards. You're more interested in NOT being convinced, in NEVER being convinced they aren't racists. You will harbor that delusion until the end of your days. You value it. You nurture it, enthusiastically. You treasure it, and you will not let it go. It's part of you.

It must be confessed that were the tables turned, there would be no convincing the left that a white "conservative" or Republican was not racist.

It wouldn't even be an allowed point of discussion. Hell, you have some here insisting that McCain hates gays over Hagee.

Verso: But the base of the Republican Party doesn't like Muslims any more than it likes gays

Thats an odd comment, considering its the GOP base that favors reforming the Middle East. Its Leftist like you that are bigoted toward the Muslim world. You want your decaf lattes, your MTV, your cheap oil economy - and if 50 million muslims must suffer tyranny and brutality to satiate your gluttonous appetite, so be it. You got your Liberty, so screw everyone else.

"There is some justice in one charge that is frequently leveled against the United States, and more generally against the West: Middle Easterners frequently complain that the West judges them by different and lower standards than it does Europeans and Americans, both in what is expected of them and what they may expect, in terms of their economic well-being and their political freedom. They assert that Western spokesmen repeatedly overlook or even defend actions and support rulers that they would not tolerate in their own countries.

...there is nevertheless a widespread [Western] perception that there are significant differences between the advanced Western world and the rest, notably the peoples of Islam, and that these latter are in some ways different, with the tacit assumption that they are inferior. The most flagrant violations of civil rights, political freedom, and even human decency are disregarded or glossed over, and crimes against humanity, which in a European or American country would evoke a storm of outrage, are seen as normal and even acceptable.

...The underlying assumption in all this is that these people are incapable of running a democratic society and have neither concern nor capacity for human decency."

Echo. There's no need to imply Obama is Muslim. He's been kneeling at a hate-America hate-whitey madrassa for the last 20 years.

Homer: Heh heh heh. Ooh, yeah, right, Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.

Well, if that's the goal, it may be a bit subtle for the 10% of people who still believe Obama is a Muslim in spite of the denials, the crosses, Rev. Wright, et. al.
