If you think I'm supposed to feel bad about...

... this. You don't know my history with it.

Good riddance. Now we just have a center-left paper in town instead of a center-left paper AND a loony-left paper.

If they're going to enhance their web presence, they really have to change their website. There isn't anything appealing about it, and it's completely clumsy to use.

Think of all the trees they'll be saving! Good on them!

We do love the smell of schadenfreude in the morning. Or any time of day for that matter.

If they publish truther favorable stuff, then frankly they get what they got coming to them. And what they got coming to them is a lack of reader trust. It's hard to take a "news" paper seriously when they allow themselves to play around in fantasy.

both papers are heavily-wired papers, so we're not missing much. And I agree - their website sucks.

I'm still boycotting the Cap Times from the strike 30 odd years ago. I guess this makes it easier. That and no longer living in Madison.

The existence of a University in Madison, WI, is evidence of some intelligence in Dane County. (Being the State Capital only assures the existence of demagogues, lobbyists, and the potential of corruption - the current legislature of Wisconsin is not of the same quality exhibited when Fighting Bob was in his ascendency)
As much as you may personally dislike the Madison, WI, Capital Times, it did represent a view different from Fox News.
Thomas Jefferson wrote, “We are not afraid to follow truth wherever it may lead, nor to tolerate any error so long as reason is left free to combat it.”
INTELLIGENT PEOPLE SHOULD BE EXPOSED TO MANY POINTS OF VIEW - which is why the demise of The Capital Times is a loss, a shame.

Could be worse, you could've had the STrib as your hometown paper, the DNC's answer to Pravda and Investia! The STrib required signed approval from a local high level Commissar before publishing any letter to the "Conveyors of Truth and Enlightenment!"

Intelligent people were exposed to the points of view of the Capital Times, and not enough bought it (pun intended) to keep it a going concern.

"The Capital Times, the city’s fabled 90-year-old daily newspaper founded in response to the jingoist fervor of World War I.... An avowedly progressive paper..."

Progressive, like the president, (Woodrow Wilson), who declared war on Germany? Who instituted Jim Crow on a federal level?

Isolationism and segregation, the original progressive vales.

If you think I'm supposed to feel bad about this

No, but I sure do feel bad about this.

Our soldiers when they return from combat deserve better than to have to take a shower in feces.

Professor...hire someone to cover local sports. Get a college kid, pay him next to nothing, and compete with the local non-paper...get local ad dollars and hire somebody else, ideally an Australian, to write lurid local crime stories, and there you go.

Hey Titus could do a fashion column, RH Hardin could cover the pet beat, Pogo could give medical tips, Palladian could be your art guy, Bissage could be the humor columnist, Victoria the foreign correspondent, Reader_iam could do book reviews, AllenS could give home repair tips, Ruth Anne could write about the history of your vortex, Fen and Cyrus could be the political point counter point guys, Blake and Ron could do movie reviews, Madison Man could do local color like Lieks, Dust Bunny Queen could be the financial advice guru, Paddy O and Pastor Jeff could do religion, Ricpic could do the poetry, Simon could do crosswords in Latin and Meade could be the beaver. Me, I always wanted to be Dear Abby.

Let’s go to the barn and put on a show!!!!

Hmm, this seems unfair. Plus, I remember at least one instance where you lamented a lack of coverage when, in fact, the Cap Times had covered it. The Hmong protests, this summer.

So, nobody buys the damned thing on paper but somehow they will flock to it online? Do these fools believe it was the quality of their newsprint that turned off the readers, lol?

Trooper York म्हणाले...

Just another reason not to buy fish in Madison, nothing to wrap it in.
