Michelle appropriates Jackie.

A WSJ PDF showing how Michelle Obama has quite deliberately appropriated Jackie Kennedy's First Lady fashion style, Peter Pan collars and all.

Sure hope she doesn't take that to its tragic logical conclusion.

If Michelle Obama is appropriating Jackie, who is Hillary Clinton appropriating? Minus the hats, Bella Abzug comes to mind.

http://Minus the hat there is a resemblence

Being around Bella Abzug was like living at an airport, the quip went. I don't think Hillary reaches far in that direction.

A girls' phys ed instructor is more like Hillary, in the current characterizations.

I didn't respond to Kennedy, either ; apparently there's some chromosome that I lack.

I'm not surprised it degenerates into women's outfits.

These people (the Obamas)don't have an honest bone in their bodies. The speeches are nothing but glittering generalities, all sound and fury signifying nothing. They are stage managed, dressed, choreographed and artfully posed to give the desired aura, all the while hiding their true selves.

The Clintons are just as bad, with the exception that people are not buying the deception as much as they all did in the first act of the staged play.

If the American people are stupid enough to fall for this obvious illusion (and evidently they are) we deserve everything that is coming. It isn't going to be pretty economically, with international relations or for the security of our nation.

There you go again with the subliminal!

Wait, it's not subliminal, it's blatant.

Newsweek seems on the Obama payroll. Dog Bites Man.

MCG: I like the Hillary/Bella comparison but I like the Nurse Ratchet one better, especially now that I've been educated since 2000 in the pseudo-science of subliminalia & I see it as RATchet.

The big difference is that Michelle is a lot smarter than Jackie. Jackie had wonderful taste, but she knew she was out of her depth discussing policy or politics. If someone had the poor grace to ask her such a question, she'd just smile.

In that - knowing her limitations - she showed tremendous wisdom.

Michelle is just the next Hillary. The Clintons are Yale lawyers. The Obamas are Harvard lawyers. The husbands are smooth, able to woo crowds with vapid speeches full of nothing. The wives are single minded engines of destruction.

Jackie would never have given the speech Michelle gave the other night. She didn't give speeches.

As far as graciousness, Michelle and Jackie seem like polar opposites. Did Jackie ever whine to impoverished constituents about how hard her life was, having an Ivy League education and sending her two children to expensive summer camps? And even after her husband was killed she didn't badmouth America...

Yes, but wasn't she (like the current Mrs. McCain -- another woman contrasted with Mrs. Obama) from a background of wealth and privilege? It seems a bit silly for a graduate of Princeton and Harvard to whine about how hard her life is, but not as silly as it would be for a woman like Jacqueline Bouvier.

Re: Michelle Obama's style, she looks a little like she's hunching over in the blowup picture on the right -- particular when she has those gigantic collars (you get this a little in the houndstooth photo as well), she ought to make sure her posture is perfectly erect. Otherwise the line of the collar and the line of her shoulders and everything make her look like a hunchback. She looks best when the detail up top isn't nearly as substantial, like with the blue dress on the far left.

To whom might these comparisons appeal? Seniors assuming Alzheimers hasn't kicked in? JKF was president 45 years ago.........

Has the media asked Michelle Obama why she's not "proud" of affirmative action?

Actually, the big question about the Michelles of this world is: do dumb people know they're dumb?

Jackie was smart enough to understand that she lacked the smarts to comment intelligently in public about matters beyond her grasp. Plus, she had class.

What does that say about Hillary?

I daresay that the only truism in women's fashions is that they are recycled given time. You could likely make the same comparison between Jackie O. and any fashionable young woman, or between Michelle O and any past fashion icon. Are there similarities between Michelle and Audrey Hepburn? Between MO and Twiggy? Between Cindy McCain and Jackie O.? Yes.

Awaiting the inevitable Michelle pillbox hat...

I am sorry but she is no Jackie O.

Jackie was soo fabulous.

What can you say about the woman other than diva?

My mother and grandparents absolutely loved her and I went to a bar in New York called Jackie O's and all I got was a fabulous tshirt that I can many comments about. That and my amazing ass.

titustandue म्हणाले...

The thing I loved most about Jackie O was that she tried to be a private person. Never granting interview, going on talk shows etc.

There is something to be said for a person in todays world that did not participate in all that crap.

Also she was unique and absolutely stunning. The clothes, hello-fierce-a true diva.
