"'Well, I said I would not tear up; already we're not exactly on the path,' Clinton said with emotion..."

Oh, no. Not again....

IN THE COMMENTS: Suggestions for a new Hillary theme song. Here's mine:

Kirby Olson म्हणाले...

96 Tears, by Question Mark and the Mysterians, should be her new theme song.

Roger J. म्हणाले...

"its my party and I'll cry if I want to..." also works.

BJK म्हणाले...

"The Tears of a Clown" by Smokey Robinson

...or would that be too harsh?

Trooper York म्हणाले...

You don’t remember me now
But i remember how I ran for you
It was not so long ago
You broke my heart in two

Tears on my pillow
Pain in my heart
Caused by you

If we could start my campaign anew
I wouldn’t stop and hesistate
I'd gladly take you back
And tell you Bill and I are really black.

Tears on my pillow
Pain in my heart
Caused by you

My campaign is not a gaget
My campaign is not a toy
When u know I am the one you love
l will fill your heart with joy

If we could start my campaign anew
I wouldn’t stop and hesistate
I'd gladly take you back
And tell you Bill and I are really black

Tears on my pillow
Pain in my heart
Caused by you

Ron म्हणाले...

If I outright caterwaul at the right time, can I get at least a cabinet post?

अनामित म्हणाले...

Yep. That is definitely a show of character and strength. The little woman trots out the tearful victim act. Hey. It worked once, so...

VAGINAS OF THE WORLD UNITE
----- VOTE HILLARY! -----

[This message brought to you by Beaver Industries, offering a range of satisfying products for the discriminating, and perhaps tearful, female.]

Ron म्हणाले...

No crying in Obamaland -- he's got Oprah to heal all psychic wounds. Who's Hillary got, James Carvelle? That'd make me cry!

P_J म्हणाले...

Let's hope enough people "find their voice" tomorrow, and that voice says, "No. NO. A thousand times, NO!"

Patm म्हणाले...

Boy, is she tiresome.

knighterrant म्हणाले...

If it works again, displaying "womanly vapors" will become a staple of the campaign consultant's handbook. Office seekers will try to sob and swoon their way to victory across the country. It will set back women in politics by 100 years.

tituschelsea म्हणाले...

I don't know if this makes a difference to people but if a women actually sees this and votes for her because of it it is very sad.

KCFleming म्हणाले...

If her tears are real, she cannot withstand the rigors of the Presidency.

If her tears are false, her tendency toward manipulation and exagerration mean she cannot be an effective or honest resident.

Any way you look at it you lose.

Roger J. म्हणाले...

Knight Errant: of course I am an old f**t, but tears always worked on me--until, that is, my deputy administrator assistant, "Ms. Rachet," took me aside and told me (in effect) to grow a pair and ignore the tears.

Meade म्हणाले...

Her tears are not false. They are genuine expressions of emotion.

Problem is, all her public tears are for herself alone. She is only openly and sentimentally moved by the idea of her own suffering -- a seriously bad character flaw in any leader.

One would think 35 years of experience should be enough to overcome such a flaw.

Peter V. Bella म्हणाले...

Is it a coincidence? Roy Orbison? One of Mitt Romney's favorites?

Ron म्हणाले...

And Huckabee's song is "In Dreams"!

Meade म्हणाले...

Hillary theme song. Here's mine.

Joseph म्हणाले...

I find the audience shots in that Orbison clip so funny. Blank stares all around, absolutely no reaction to a very emotional song.

Meade म्हणाले...

Can you take me back Oval Office?
Can you take me back?
Can you take me back Oval Office?
Voters can you take me back?
Can you take me back?
Oooh, take me in the Oval Office?
Can you take me back?

P_J म्हणाले...

Meade nailed it at 1:30.

Hillary succumbs to her emotions regarding her own "struggle" and her noble suffering on our behalf.

Will we ever move beyond the long, national nightmare of this family's shallow psychodrama? I really don't want Mary Hartman for President.

blake म्हणाले...

Doesn't this really make the road rougher for future female candidates? Not that HRC would care, particularly, but when you have this woman being trumpeted as "smartest" and "toughest", and she can't keep from crying? Wasn't it Pat Schroeder who bawled her way out of a candidacy years ago?

Did Margaret Thatcher ever cry in public?

Saul म्हणाले...

The irony of ironies is that if you are truly a feminist in the sense that you are pro-choice, the most likely way to have Roe v. Wade overturned is to have Hilary win the nomination, because she is more likely to lose in the general election.

john म्हणाले...

Joseph -

Your not entirely correct, there is that one boy in back of the kid with the sunglasses who was really getting into it.

But really, Roy playing high school assemblies? Was this the inspiration for Spinal Tap?

KCFleming म्हणाले...

The use of "In Dreams" in the David Lynch film Blue Velvet has given many of Orbison's a slightly menacing tone, at least for me.

"Crying" was once sad alone, but now has a vaguely threatening quality. I keep seeing Dennis Hopper and a face mask. Ick.

George M. Spencer म्हणाले...

Can't resist this....

Wilburys....

"Handle With Care"

john म्हणाले...

But that wasn't Roy's only professional embarrassment. In his "Black and White" TV special he reportedly had to break up numerous fights between Bruce Springsteen and all the other performers, Springsteen being under the impression that it was his show.

I don't know about her theme song, but I'd pay big money to see Obama play the Pretenders' "Stop Your Sobbing" at one of his rallies today.

michaele म्हणाले...

Loved the video..I thought the audience was adorable..in an eery way. Were young people ever really that well behaved? Amazing! Nowadays, all the arms would be uplifted and swaying and the hands would be holding some sort of light source.

Meade म्हणाले...

"hehehehehe"

Maxine "Althouse" Weiss,

Didn't you have an appointment this afternoon with a licensed mental health professional - one that you're missing right about now?

What a totally weird video. They didn't show Roy's face until :46. I was beginning to think that they never would. I'm so used to seeing Beatlemania and Elvis clips with the crowd going nuts. These folks seemed acutely aware of the camera... and I notice that the audience is well lit, for the camera's sake, which also looks odd.

I had always thought that Roy got those thick glasses late in life because of cataract surgery or something like that... but you can clearly see that those glasses are extremely thick already at that time.

Anybody who is a Roy Orbison fan should go to iTunes and download the "True History of the Traveling Wilburys" documentary. It's very interesting.

Okay Maxine, okay. But you're not going to get over that little, you know, cough of yours if you keep missing appointments with the doctors who will help you get better.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

Where do they find these moron audiences?

Joseph म्हणाले...

I don't see anything wrong with the video of Hillary. An old friend is emotionally expressing his admiration for her and she shows entirely appropriate, subtle and gracious emotion in receiving it.

Never tell the truth about a woman or a black;
It might knock the train of progress off the track:
And we mustn't have THAT!

Song to Hillary:

I don't know why nobody told you
best not to mold yourself
I don't know how someone controlled you
they bought and sold you

I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While Hil-la-ree gently weeps
With every mistake she should surely be learning
Still Hil-la-ree gently weeps

Zachary Sire म्हणाले...

So Maxine is the new Deep Throat...jesus christ.

Although, Maxine said:

"...not sure quite what I am..."

We're with ya on that one.

With your hate-filled, bigoted tirades against women, Asians, the mentally disabled, Hispanics, and Native Americans, it's no surprise you've now come out against African-Americans.

You're much more charming when you stick to soap stars, holiday withdrawls, and that nasty "cough."

rhhardin म्हणाले...

Hey, women cry. If you're going to have a woman President, that's what you'll get a lot of.

The trouble here is the load of crap she cries at.

अनामित म्हणाले...

A great Orbison song from an era when it was all about the music, and musicians had actual talent - rather than today's second-rate dancers flopping about on stage to the nasal whine of third-rate plastic singers. Sigh.

paul a'barge म्हणाले...

I miss Roy, big time.

john म्हणाले...

George,
thanks for the Wilburys.

Paul,
I miss him too now, catch him in black and white here:

john म्हणाले...

I forgot:

John,
you too,

Ringo,
hang in there.

Fen म्हणाले...

She is only openly and sentimentally moved by the idea of her own suffering

Didn't Hillary have a "revelation" around the time her Village book came out? Something about learning that materialism doesn't bring you happiness? Something deep that most adults experienced back in their mid-20's?

Fen म्हणाले...

Hey, women cry. If you're going to have a woman President, that's what you'll get a lot of.

Did Thatcher ever cry? And no, I don't fault Pat Schroder for breaking down so many years ago - lots of men get teary eyed too when conceeding the nomination.

But Hillary's tears seem calculated to make her appear human.

Beldar म्हणाले...

On the brink of every scary primary, when the polls are dippin' and her lead is slippin':

Oh it's cryin' time again,
You're gonna leave me.
I can see that far-away look
In your eyes.
I can tell just by the way
You hold me, darlin',
That it won't be long
Until it's cryin' time.

(Here's a performance by Buck Owens and Ray Charles.)
