Half-siblings in love.

They met as adults:
"I know that loving my brother in this way is wrong morally and legally, but it just feels right," says 22-year-old Danielle [Heany].

"The only way to explain it is to say that the day I met Nick, I felt I had finally met my soulmate. Everything clicked. I would marry him if I could."

Nick [Cameron], 28, adds: "My feelings are very confused. We are very deeply in love with each other, but sometimes I think 'she's my little sister. I shouldn't be feeling this way.'

"All I know is that for the first time in my life I feel I belong. I should feel ashamed of it, but I don't."
But this is not a case of offspring of a popular sperm donor who learn the truth after they fall in love. These two have the same mother, and they knew they were half-siblings when they met. Their mother, Susan, meaning to make up for the lost family life, introduced them.
It was Susan who reported them to police after walking in on them making love in the autumn of 2006, and shouted in horror: "What you are doing is morally wrong."
Quite aside from the perplexities of the incest taboo, this case seems to involve some serious hostility between mother and children. Why were they having sex where their mother could walk in on them? Is she the audience for their love?

The two now face arrest if they have sex, and though they live together and act very demonstrative in public, they say they will follow the law:
"We have an unbreakable bond. Of course, it will be hard living together and there will always be temptation, but we have decided that we can still love each other without having sex.

"I love Danielle and because of that I don't want to do anything which might put her in prison, and she feels the same way about me. The sexual expression of our feelings is only one part of the relationship."

Danielle, a former hairdresser, adds: "What we can't live without is the closeness and intimacy. We can still talk, we can still go for walks, we can still love each other.

"Legally we can still kiss, still hold hands, still carry on together, we just can't have intercourse."
They may be lying, but unless they let mom walk in on them again, how can the state know?

Do these people have some sort of constitutional right to privacy I don't know about?

Heh.

It's icky, but it's noone's business but their own. Mom should go play bingo.

It's kind of gross but i don't want to hear about it.

Kind of like gays. I don't care about what they do but I just don't want to hear about it. I just hate it when they are so much in your face about their sexuality.

I smell movie coming out of this.
It could be a new Matthew McConaughey/Kate Hudson flick.
Hollywood will promote this as a new hip lifestyle!

Well, there's a law against it on the books in UK. My own opinion is that if the possibility of children being conceived is taken out of it (vasectomy for the lad), I could care less. I'm sure though, that if my attitude was the prevailing one, the next quandary would appear when they desired to get married.

There's always a new limit to be delineated and striven against, I think.

Fen म्हणाले...

Hey, I thought that whatever consenting adults do in their bedroom was nobody's business? And concerns over mutations are archaic - they can abort "mistakes" and adopt outside their gene pool.

Bob म्हणाले...

Fen, you're reasoning backwards. If you know in advance that you can only conceive monsters, you take the necessary steps to permanently prevent conception, you don't say oops and have the mother go through a dangerous operation to correct the "mistake."

I bet that a few years from now a court ordered paternity test will tell for certain.

Doesn't Britain's nationalized health care services include sterilization? Seems to me that would've solved the problem for all three of them.

"The natural repulsion brothers and sisters often feel for each other as children is a safeguard against incest "

That's why it concerns me how well Ann and Del get along together. Ann hasn't expressed that natural repulsion for her sister.

Come to think of it, I know a set of brothers who get along a little too well.

Uh-oh.

icky is right. Still none of my business. I feel for the girls husband. Wonder how the conversation went with her daughter. "Mommy decided to shack up with her brother". Lust or not, these are not nice people.

That'd be an interesting proposition: two Brits, living in Britain, have an enforceable right against the British government granted by the U.S. Constitution?

The Mother is uncomfortable because she feels left out.

Could the family have survived without the incest taboo? Would civilization, even in its imperfect state, exist? But what the hey, I want what I want and screw the accumulated wisdom of the race.

BTW Ann, can we please have strikeout tags? I see that you have access to them, but we don't. Is that something you can fix?

Apparently there is not a natural aversion between siblings at all. In fact, there is a natural attraction. What causes the *aversion* is close association as young children.

So... take these two half-siblings who grew up without a close family or even knowing each other as small children.

Not only do they have a genetic predisposition for *attraction*, but they've been denied both the close association that would short-circuit that attraction completely and effectively, *and* they're also emotionally needy and want more than anything to feel a particularly close family bond.

Maxine Weiss म्हणाले...

Sometimes, it's the little things your Sibling does, that you're attracted to. ---Like the way a sibling pours coffee. There's an art to pouring well, and when you see such deft aptitude--the perfect technique, and tipping the coffee pot just so..... there's something mesmerizing about it.

Isn't this relationship permissible under sharia law? If not, simply adopt a legal system, alongside common law, and let that system adjudicate.

Siblings. First Cousins. Twins.

So tawdry and sordid. Gloriously lurid and titillating.

If you can imagine it; someone's doing it!

I think the phenomenon may have something to do with looking in the mirror. Maybe all your life you admire yourself in the mirror, and finally you see someone else who gives you that same feeling.

When I was like 12 or 13 I would take turn doing my cousins at family get togethers.

There were three girls all between the ages of 12-15 and I would take turns doing them.

When I go home now and see them I feel a little ashamed.

Random म्हणाले...

The phenomenon predates mirrors. Actually, thoughts on it have a long and storied history since such inbreeding was Darwin's main argument against the problem posed by his not knowing genes were discrete (although he could have had an ulterior motive!). That is, if you think heredity is continuous, then any change (e.g., mutation) will slowly be averaged away (by breeding with those who don't have it) unless there's inbreeding (it's the discrete nature of genes that actually removes this problem).

Anyway, a ton of research on the topic as to what is optimal. It's closer than you think, probably (a bit farther than cousin-ish). A lot of what you find attractive is determined by this (like your relatives but not just like them, on average). Cheers.

That's funny and kinda true (re: Maxine Weiss comment). Try raising a duck from birth and then see what it'll try to mate with (sometimes, anyway).

Strange... Sexual deviancy in Scotland usually involves sheep.

(What's the difference between an Englishman and a Scotsman? The Englishman says, "Hey, you, get off of my cloud," while the Scotsman says, "Hey, McLeod, get off of my ewe!")

For some reason, Titus has been hinting that he's heterosexual. It wouldn't surprise me. If he is, will all his gay sex comments look homophobic?

Jerry: I think I'm in love.

Kramer: Oh. Come on.

Jerry: No it's true. This woman saved my life. I was crossing the street. I was almost hit by a car...and then we talked and.......the whole thing just seemed like a dream.

Kramer: If a guy saved your life you'd be in love with him too.

Jerry: No, no this woman is different, she's incredible. she's just like me. She talks like me, she acts like me.

She even ordered cereal at a restaurant. We even have the same initials. Wait a minute, I just realized what's going on.

Kramer: What?

Jerry: Now I know what I've been looking for all these years... myself! I've been waiting for me to come along and now I've swept myself off my feet.

Kramer: You stop it man.. you're FREAKING ME OUT!!!

I honestly don't see anything wrong with a brother ans sister falling in Love. You don't choose who fall in love with. That includes LGBTQ's. Family member or not. I, on the other hand, am in Love with one of my half-brothers. Even though im 15, I know what Love feels like. We try to keep it a secret. Our father and my setp-mother would FREAK OUT if they ever found out we had a thing for each-other. Its a Forbidden Love thing, as I call it. and it's no ones business. So what if they had sex? Yeah its weird that your mother walked in.
