Where am I?

DSC07374.JPG

Where have I gone to celebrate January Christmas? And did you, my dear reader, even notice that my December Christmas got ruined?

Star Seeds Cafe
Austin, TX
IH 35 North Frontage Rd
next to the motel and
across from the highway from
St David's Hospital.

While you're there, try the great Mexican restaurant just a couple of blocks north of the Star Seeds on the same side of IH 35. It's calle Los Altos and the Carne Guisada and Tacos Al Pastor are to die for, as is the green salsa.

Star Seeds is great ... at one time, before the remodel it was the only place in Austin that flaunted its willingness to disobey the no-smoking rules instituted by the nanny state fascists who run the City of Austin.

The neighborhood is called "French Place" and the neighborhood association is called the Cherrywood Neighborhood Association.

Just 4 blocks north is the great Fiesta Supermarket with an excellent international foods selection.

The airports apparently stayed open for January Christmas. Merry Christmas!

There's a yellow rose in Texas, that I am going to see,
Nobody else could miss her, not half as much as me.
She cried so when I left her, it like to broke my heart,
And if I ever find her, we nevermore will part.

She's the sweetest little rosebud that Texas ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew;
You may talk about your Clementine, and sing of Rosalee,
But the yellow rose of Texas is the only girl for me.

When the Rio Grande is flowing, the starry skies are bright,
She walks along the river in the quiet summer night:
I know that she remembers, when we parted long ago,
I promise to return again, and not to leave her so.

She's the sweetest little rosebud that Texas ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew;
You may talk about your Clementine, and sing of Rosalee,
But the yellow rose of Texas is the only girl for me.

Oh now I'm going to find her, for my heart is full of woe,
And we'll sing the songs together, that we sung so long ago
We'll play the bango gaily, and we'll sing the songs of yore,
And the yellow rose of Texas shall be mine forevermore.

She's the sweetest little rosebud that Texas ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew;
You may talk about your Clementine, and sing of Rosalee,
But the yellow rose of Texas is the only girl for me.

Do I win something?

Maxine Weiss म्हणाले...

A better question is why wouldn't you do Bloggingheads with Susan Estrich ?

Guesst म्हणाले...

More important:

Who are you having coffee with?

paul a'barge म्हणाले...

Paddy O... all you did was read the label on the cup. Cheap.

Maxine ... there are a lot of things I'd like to do with Susan Estrich, but Bloggingheads is not one of them.

...and quoted an iconic song.

Observation of the obvious skills are very important in life.

I'm still glad to see Christmas time with family, even if I don't win the where am I contest.

Austin-tatious. Please say HI to CAC and RLC for me!

Radicals who enrich corporations by purchasing a painful death in packages of little white tubes do not win my respect or admiration. If you're going to kill yourself, at least use a drug that will actually get you high.

at least use a drug that will actually get you high.

IIRC, the nicotine hit is delivered to the brain within seconds and does result in an altered state. Naturally, like all drugs, overuse and extended use dulls the response.

We need to discuss that sweater, Christopher is wearing, and how it's not the most understated of garments.

Not very conservative, or sedate.

Will l'affair d'coeur occur with RLC? Mon Dieu!!!

Yes, I did. Which is why I remembered.

I recall you being cagey about Christmas, despite constant pestering from Maxine.

I used to live around the corner from Star Seeds and wrote much of my first book there. They didn't have the name on coffee cups. I'm really sorry to hear that they remodeled it.

Mr. Forward म्हणाले...

Hard to believe she would make it that easy.

Maybe the coffee cup is a "plant" that's supposed to make you think Althouse is in Austin.

A cup a' Joe
A plate a' eggs
And hash browns, too,
And being I'm in Texas
I'll cover 'em in tabasco and tomato goo.
Then a cool clean glass of water
To clean my palate through and through.
Now lumber up from this here seat
And off I go to do what I come here to do.

Hi, Jaltco!

"Where am I?"

I hope that's a riddle.

Otherwise it indicates excessive business travel, too many concert performances, the morning after a bachelor party, or a neurodegenerative disorder.

If not a riddle, I'd ask the waitress.

KCFleming म्हणाले...

The coffee is likely to help, too.

अनामित म्हणाले...

I see tards

अनामित म्हणाले...

I also see lyrics to an over played pop music hits, some years ago.

Would make a good cover jacket for a 45. Just wondering what song you would pick for the b-side and the graphic, too. Of course, they would have to be ...

oh wait, I already gave that idea to my favorite music man. No use repeating.

Is everyone whining about the cold? I just got back from the Crescent City, and it was chilly, but I missed out on the brutal cold here.

Too bad, in hoosierland it was 10 degrees when i took a walk to get a frosty. The wind was nippy, but a shake at the local fast food diner did wonders. Then the treck back home for a mile and a half.

red cheeks look healthy and plump.

My grandmother told me that pinches, schnapps, or fresh air will do it. Some say rouge. I would suggest slight doses of all three and makeup only in certain circumstances.

As to the original subject: I'm sorry to hear that. Mine didn't go as planned either. Hope you are all having a great time now. (BTW, I did not notice. It took me a while to find where you originally referred to the problem - didn't follow that thread after the first couple of comments.)

Yeah well tell when you are ready to celebrate your February 4th of July. Fireworks, wienie roasts, a parade down main st. Would you roast your wienie if there was snow on the bbq? Could you roast your wienie if there was snow on the ground? Do you like to say the word wienie? Is it wienie or wiener? These holidays can be a drag. Unless you are Maxine, then you spend the holidays in drag.

Shane म्हणाले...

I miss Austin. I used to live right across the highway from Star Seeds Cafe, and I'd roll in there for my hangover breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays on a pretty regular basis.

But alas, I haven't been there in about 2 years, and don't even really know anyone who still lives near the UT campus.

I'm jealous, Ann.
