When I saw this I realized something I've discovered over and over.

That there are always details that you've never noticed, even on your most familiar walk. Here I was, walking down Pierrepont Street in Brooklyn Heights, and I'd never really seen that before. So I pushed myself to do that thing I do sometimes — I need a word for it — requiring myself to find one thing after another that I've never noticed before....

To prove to myself that it is always possible to see something new...

... something beautiful.

I am a walker. I always see something new or something different. It is especially amazing when it is on a regular route. It shows how little we actually pay attention to the world around us.

Hey photo's on Clinton St? If you walk down Clinton you will see a lot of great brownstones. One in particular has an amazing staircase with a grand piano in the parlor, fully visible from the street as they are almost on display. Also the church used for the Johnny Sack wedding in the Soprano's. It's on the corner of Clinton and Kane. Some great detail on that corner.

It may be we need repetition to eventually see something different. Boredom in our regular route causes our eyes to seek and find new, smaller, less obvious things. Once that happens, its not our regular route anymore, at least for a while.

Walking the dog will not help.

It didn't change. You did. You're seeing on your 4th 19 now.

Hats, horns, cards, a cake with frosting, candles, presents, mongrammed napkins...

All the traditional things of a birthday.

Frosting? Do you say frosting? I say icing. I grew up saying icing. I think it's better.

I don't care for icing, even less for frosting. Too sweet.

My birthday cakes are plain.

You need a traditional white layer cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. You pipe little florets through a pastry bag.

I'm sure you have a cake decorating place. They do all sorts of cake designs with neon gels too.

A traditional birthday with all the trimmings.
