Robin: "Ghoti" is "fish"? I thought that was a guinea gangster.
Batman: See here. English phonetics. GH becomes F, as in "tough" or "laugh". O becomes I as in "women". TI becomes SH as in "ration" or the word "nation".
Robin: Holy semantics, Batman. You never cease to amaze me!
Batman: No time for compliments, Robin. We must thwart some criminals. To the Batmobile
Robin: What is a criminal twat Batman?
Batman: You are too young to understand Robin. No be a good ward and slide down the Bat Pole. And don’t mention it to the social worker.

Hate to pettifog (actually, I love to), but G. B. Shaw is the creator of your "fish to ghoti" riff.

BTW, how does one pronounce “Desbrosses” Street? Used to be a great Italian Restaurant there with its menu written in chalk on a blackboard.

It seemed that there were always Gotti types there (pseudo-Gotti; faux Gotti?)
