It was hot...

DSC04231.JPG

.. but not unbearable. I walked 3 miles to my destination, and I had a plan to take a cab back. But then I ended up just walking the whole way. I should have worn sunscreen. I shouldn't have worn sandals. And since it didn't rain after all, I was sorry I brought that umbrella, and that it was a really heavy golf umbrella. And I was almost sorry that I'd stopped at a store on Grand Street and bought 5 items of clothing. Buying the clothes was like a decision to take the cab. But then I didn't take the cab. Most of the way I had the shopping bag hooked on the end of the umbrella... in the style of those hobos in cartoons.

Ah, it was so much easier walking in than walking back...

I was waiting for you to go shopping.

Do you know how much I envy you? No really, I'm stuck here in Sweden and I do want to see New York and it's surroundings before I die. Lucky you!

"I was waiting for you to go shopping."

You mean you were I was waiting for me to blog about shopping. I've been shopping many times since I got here 10 days ago. I've lost count!

Can I go shopping with Althouse?

Did you find any Bandit?

It was a tough day in Ohio, too - sturdy crabgrass- and low-hop-clover stems made even scything one swath across the lawn enough to satisfy the scything urge for the day. Usually it takes two or three. You get about 50 cubic feet of clippings from one swath now. It's a shame you can't eat it.

Fortunately not hot and humid like yesterday. I assume that's in New York now.

Palladian said "Can I go shopping with Althouse?"

Yes!

"Did you find any Bandit?"

No, and I looked. Everyone in SoHo was all Oh! Piguet! Fracas! but no Bandit. They pointed uptown....

Something wrong with that sentence!

I'm still waiting for the post film watching post that discusses the differences between Madison film watchers and those in NYC.

(it is coming, right? just waiting for the right film . . .)

(and speaking of awkwardly worded sentences, howabout that first one in this comment?)

You know the last couple days I've contemplated going to the movies (because of the heat!), but I didn't notice anything that met my standard. I walked out of my way to check the marquees on a couple arthouse-y (althouse-y) looking places, but couldn't get excited, even with the added incentive of wanting a dose of air conditioning.

Superbad was supergood.

Seth Rogan, the writer/producer, used to write for Da Ali G Show. You saw Borat, right?

I love walking in New York, except when its hot.

So, no envy here.

And the sky shot is great.

Sweden? I'd love to see Sweden... or any of the Nordic countries before I die...

Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge on foot. That's on my list of things to do. Only problem is, it requires going to New York, which is on my list of things to avoid.

Ruth Anne,

It's also produced by Judd Apatow, of 40 Year-Old Virgin, and one of the leads was the guy trying to buy the goldfish-in-the-platform-shoe at Catherine Keener's EBay store. So, it's got that going for it....

That sounds like lolcat-speak (as in I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER, etc.). If someone Photoshopped that quote onto a picture of our hostess, they could call it a lolthouse...

Why didn't you get the cab?

Whenever I've been in that situation (in London, not NY), it was because there weren't any and I wasn't expecting that, so end up feeling like an idiot as well as sweaty and annoyed.

Haven't commented here before. Fantastic blogging, love what you do here Ann.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Thanks, Alice. I didn't get the cab because I had enough energy and wanted the exercise. Knowing I could get the cab at any point (except on the bridge) kept me going.

Terrific pics, but isn't there some newfangled law against the taking of photos of things like bridges? (Homeland security and all that.)

Ann -

Was the umbrella of any use as a sunshade?

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Parker: Wish I'd thought of that...
