Some of us are simply genetically predisposed to burn more calories more efficiently than others. Restricting those calories, as you do on a diet, will similarly lead to differing results. But the biggest wild card in the diet game may be how you crank out insulin.
This is very interesting. Notice that it absorbs up to 1 liter of liquid in the body to expand from the size of a spitwad? I wonder if that would dehydrate some people who don't drink enough, so they would need to really stress drinking plenty of liquids with this thing.
Also, just wondered what would happen if this "spitwad" were to get lodged in the throat or esophagus and start expanding.
And does it re-liquefy like Jello would to pass it? I would think that would be none too pleasant. But, yea, another pill! LOL ;)
Then there is this diet concept called self discipline and not eating everything that isn't tied down. Throw in some vigourous exercise every other day and one might be amazed how the fat drops.
So what happens if you don't drink two glasses of water with the pill? Does it suck the liquid from your body, making you look like a piece of dried fruit, yet with a feeling of fullness?
True enough, but just as one can choose to eat less, or none of certain things, one can abstain from sex. Isn't that partially what yesterday's chat about the Dalai Lama was about - celibacy?
Life isn't only an endless seeking of sensory pleasures - eating, drinking, f*cking, etc. There is quite a lot to be said about moderating one's appetites such that they don't destroy oneself. Hedonism, or simple lack of self-control if you prefer, is no virtue. There is no reason to live as if you're dying tomorrow, as chance are, you aren't.

As "promising" as a stomach-filler sounds, hunger is still also controlled by insulin/sugar levels.

Works for me just fine. I stop eating when I feel full, not when my plate is empty.
Also my statement included the caveat that you don't eat everything in sight which is the discipline part.

So does pretty much everybody else. You're just lucky in your metabolism; you feel full after eating less. That's not willpower -- its biology.
