"I think I'm more joyful than she is."

What a great stereotypical example of utterly lame woman-to-woman competitiveness!

Then went Haman forth that day joyful and with a glad heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate, that he stood not up, nor moved for him, he was full of indignation against Mordecai. -Esther 5:9

It's obvious to me that Edwards is correct. From everything I have seen of her, Mrs. Edwards seems genuinely happy.

Hillary on the other hand is a Gloomy Gus which you could discount due to her being part of the opposition party but she struck me as that when she was in the White House too.

That perception will cost her in any presidential run if more Americans feel as I and Mrs. Edwards do. Cause we tend to like to vote for candidates that have an optimism about them (you know like the opposite of Kerry- his picture is in the dictionary next to the entry for Gloomy Gus).

And Ann, this issue has nothing to do with career successes or competitiveness between two women. It's just Edwards taking a shrewd, calculated, tactical and very potent poke at the media-buffed veneer of Hillary (to help John Edwards).

And I think it will have a lasting effect by getting Americans to take a closer look at Hillary.

I dunno. Some male politicians strike my as less than happy. Americans almost certainly do prefer happy appearing candidats. (See research by Roger Masters of Dartmouth for work on German, French, and American preferences in appearance.)

I do have to question Edwards' apparent blanket condemnation of an article that she, if not sought, certainly acquiesced to, in a publication that she could have easily checked out to see what it's like. Do they routinely do rip jobs on political wives?

Did Edwards ask for final approval and get turned down? Inquiring minds want to know.

Will this help her husband? I don't see how, really. She appears to be a smart, tough woman who has survived cancer. That can't hurt, but will people really prefer John over Hillary based on the 'happiness quotient' of Mrs Edwards as opposed to an actual candidate Hillary? Why should it?

Watch for Hillary to respond with: "Yeah, but I'm skinnier."

Deleted my innocent, comical and joyful post huh? That has never happened to me bfore. I guess even Hillary is more joyful than Ann was yesterday.

Ann:
If that is how you understoood the joke, then I apologize. But I read it much more differently that you did... as someone is so uptight, you could stick a piece of coal in their buttcrack and a diamond would be made. That's descriptive of an unhappy stick in the mud, IMHO.

I understand the concept and why you thought it was funny, and I would have left it if it hadn't gone on and on, with mulitple posts, repeating the detail with gusto that I found nasty.
