"Dean Cancels Berkeley Graduation Speech."

But who was supposed to give the speech? If that's the question that headline makes you ask, click on the link so you can laugh like I did.

I'm a grad (twice) of UC, though not Berserkly. I find it a bit amusing that at flagship university of the Left, union organizers stomp on the message of the democratic party, 2 years in advance of the next contract talks.

Talk about fratricide :)

Let me get this straight: the janitors have two years left on their contract, but they are on strike? Are they under the impression that janitorial workers are highly trained and irreplaceable? It's an illegal strike; fire the lot and hire people who actually want the jobs.

What I want to know is: how many more years does Howard Dean have on his contract with the Democratic Party?

Who will be around to remove the "Piso Mojado" signs? Lawsuit waiting to happen...

There's nothing wrong with crossing an informational picket line - different story if it's a strike. But my union operates under the RLA - can any other union readers here comment on how crossing is viewed in this case.

After four years of mush-filling the new graduates get a real education on diverstiy. The exculsivity that Democratic graduation speakers have is appalling. And how willing they are to be lead around by the lowest common denominator.

Good news for graduates. Who in their bloody mind wants to listen to these speeches anyway? Especially the brutal list at Berkeley.

A state audit found University of California administrators skirted their own pay rules, giving senior managers millions in bonuses and other perks above their publicly reported salaries.
State audit finds UC execs got millions in extra compensation

Good lesson to the student body on the expendablity of rules and ethics. Well done educators.

Isn't California drowning in debt?

If I were to speak I too would have cancelled..... or perhaps spoken about good governance, rules and ethics.

Why the heck are they having a non-attorney, who happens to be chair of one of the two big political parties, speak at a law school graduation?

Talk about being blatently political. This guy isn't even an elected official any more, and when he was one, had probably almost the least impact of any governor in the country. It isn't like the Governator, who handles billions in revenue, deals with diversity, etc.

In short, what did Dean have to offer these graduates that was worth listening to?

I find the whole thing absurd. First, you have presumably civil servants illegally striking. Then you have politically correct politicians refusing to cross their picket line.

Of course, CA isn't as bad as some places in Europe these days. The militar in some of the countries there are unionized. Can you imagine them going on strike over working conditions or pay when ordered to war? Or the French backing down on cutting back on security for new hires in order to increase employment?

Sorry to get heated here, but, to me, it is absurd.

There is some level of incoherence in the behavior of either the author, the union or the pols.

The article says that there is picketing, it doesn't say striking.

why picket 2 years in advance of talks?

why concerns about crossing a picket line that isn't a strike line.

Dennis is a Dem, so therefore he is an acceptable speaker.

unacceptable speakers include our Sec of State, and John McCain, both of whom have tremendous life stories and are excellent speakers.

one wonders why :)
