"We call on you ... to direct all aid to the Palestinian treasury so it can be used in keeping with the priorities of the Palestinian people."

Says Ismail Haniyah, a prominent member of Hamas. Nothing like phrasing your requests to generate the maximum amount of resistance.

Sheik Abu Teir of hamas has indicated that sharia law will, or should be, implimented in Gaza. That will require some hard cash. It ain't as easy to impliment as it used to be

We call on you to continue moral and financial support, and to direct all aid to the Palestinian treasury so it can be used in keeping with the priorities of the Palestinian people,

Look, I am obviously not a supporter of Hamas, but as a student of negotiations, I am curious why you feel his request is going to generate the maximum amount of resistance? How would you have phrased it?

I'm sure their request for Israel to change her flag went over really well also. What a nightmare, going to the polls and having to choose between crime families.

Just wait until the ban on foreign journalists. You can't implement an islamic state unless you get rid of the press.

I wonder how Al Jazeera will take it?

I have this strange feeling that the Hamas election is going to backfire badly for radical Islam.

It reminds me of the speech Krushev made where he listed all the crimes by Stalin and then denounced Stalin. Up until that time, the Communist movement in America and the west was strong and the stories about Stalin's cruelty were dismissed as propaganda. Yet, when Krushev made the speech, Communism became naked and the movement lost its legs.

Radical Islam does not realize the leftist allies they have in the west. These allies are mostly responsible for the aid and the moral support for the palestinian terrorists. Hamas in power will expose radical islam for the tyranny that it is and they will lose this leftist support.

I don't know, Sloanasaurus. It's not as if Islamists have been subtle and easy to miss before now. Unfortunately, I think there are segments of the Left who will find ways to justify almost any behavior that they can chalk up to an unfortunate-but-inevitable-response to Israeli/American imperialism.

I can only hope and pray that the Quartet sticks to its principles, but I expect the media campaign to malign the aid withdrawal will soon begin.

The Palestinian people have spoken. You made your bed, now lie in it.

Verif word: wornn, as in worn out appeasing these thugs.

Yes, but it will be very difficult to blame the imposition of sharia law on the palestinian people on Israel or the west. Palestine is also one of the most covered places in terms of journalists. They will have to institute islamism in fron t of the cameras unless they ban the media (which they will try to do).

Hamas will need the war on Israel to continue to placate their public. However, that is a double edge sword. Going to war with Israel risks their own power (they could lose power militarily).

My guess is that Hamas will be taken out in the next year either by Israel in response to a military attack or in civil war.

Where there's a will, there's a way! It goes like this: we didn't support Abbas, therefore Fatah couldn't get anywhere, Palestinians were thus "driven into the arms" of Hamas, (besides which, they were voting in protest, but didn't actually expect them to win, etc. etc.) I see your point, but I think there's a segment of the Left that is impervious.
