Two policewomen have been suspended in the northern Indian city of Meerut for slapping and punching couples who were dating in a public park....
Police chief Rajiv Ranjan said ... the police action was part of a drive undertaken at periodic intervals - often at the behest of the parents of young women - to "cleanse" parks and other public places of people indulging in acts of public obscenity.

I remember being in Nepal and watching a number of Bollywood romance movies from India. Not once did they show a kiss on screen.
PDA must be frowned on in India.
...and they probably weren't saying, "Hey, get a room guys."
Bollywood didn't get its first on-screen kiss until a few years ago.
HUUUUUUUUUGE controversy.
When we were visiting family, some newlywed cousins came over to my grandma's house to visit and my uncles told them to quit holding hands, as it wasn't seemly.
Even though they were married. It's why I laugh whenever people whine about the US being all puritanical.
I remember a time when a violently bright flashlight would be shone in your eyes and you were only humiliated, depending......then told to move on or what Jeff said.
I think they enjoyed the flashlight part most of all. It wouldn't have been much fun if a right cross came sailing out of the light. For me anyway.
It's the same in some Middle Eastern countries too, isn't it?
Chris- we're brown. Brown people can do no wrong.
How we can be considered puritanical when we're bombarded with the trashtacular likes of Britney et al is beyond me
That is India for u....we have sudden sporadic attacks by certain people who wake up to the idea of trying to 'control' the young generation every now & then....no wonder, we have people burning down card shops on Valentine's Day...
