"Guys, stop destroying everything, it's pointless, I don't think Bouna and Zyed would be proud of you, avenging them by burning everything, by attacking innocent people."

I've gotten two e-mails today from friends in France reassuring me that the disturbances over there are not as bad as the media has made them out to be. Marc, who lives in the suburbs of Paris, reports that not only has he not seen any violence or rioters himself, but none of his friends or coworkers have, either. Maybe it just depends on the neighborhood, but they think too much is being made of the "we're going to destroy everything" quotations,

Change Paris to New Orleans, and you could've written this post-Katrina.
P.S.: Not in the US media they haven't overblown it. It took DAYS, 7 days, in fact, before the Lehrer Report gave it more than a passing mention. And as I posted in my blog, I timed the "Your World Today" one on CNN last Thursday -- 17 seconds of one hour show.
17 seconds. Your World Today, huh.
Cheers,

Sounds like there are conflictings reports on the scope of the riots.
For God's sake, when will CNN dispatch Anderson Cooper to sort this out so we can get to the bottom of this?
Surely he will see FEMA's hand in this chaos!
France is a Quagmire!
U.S. out of Europe now!
No blood for Cheese!

You'd think, given MSM's avowedly sensationalist nature in reporting any chaotic scenes, lingering over them, close-ups, loops, the works.
But at first I thought -- well a few suburbs of Paris. I've been to them: they're a tinderbox of resentment.
Then it was 28 suburbs of Paris.
Last night, it was over 300 cities in France.
That's no exaggeration any more.
And it's ridiculous that this story hasn't been as well covered by MSM as NOLA was.
(I don't mean just the US media, which don't, as mentioned above, overplay foreign news stories -- I mean from the word go, from other news media around the world as well. I have access to the BBC, France2, TVE from Spain, Deutsche Welle from Germany, etc.)
There's a gingerness to this story, that wasn't given to the US' recent tragedy.

Or Shep Smith from Fox!
Surely he will see FEMA's hand in this chaos!
We report. You deride. :)

Hey, where's Kofi Anan? Or his son...when you really need them?
Cheers,
